  1. re the Intel 5100 - your &DEV (4237) is NOT in the INF's. The Description (5100) is misleading. Apparently there a several of them - yours is an AGN and those are (at least it states this) ABGN/ABG/BG. Please note that one INF file has the VEN/DEV in the ControlFlags section in the ExcludeFromSelect list and that DEV, so you won't even have a chance to FORCE install anything, since NOTHING will be listed. In the other two, they will be listed, but it would be a matter of FORCE installing one that would work. It -appears- that the NETw4k32.INF is the "correct" one (assuming the NETw4x32.INF is the XP one). You -could- try forcing this Driver "Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN" which should list (Dev=4229). Your -exact- one but for Windows7 (still searching...) http://www.driveridentifier.com/scan/download.php?item_id=90831801&scanid=E1405E5EDA7A4FF399A757457444F12A&hardware_id=PCI\VEN_8086%26DEV_4237%26SUBSYS_12118086 ?the Intel "name" for it is "Intel Shiloh (aka Shirley Peak?) PRO Wireless 5100 AGN"? Downloaded/Extracted (via UniExtract) the XP one (from my "maybe" link) and it has that -exact- one in it (a slightly older version than the Win7 one). Will check to see what the heck the difference is between this one and the other one. -NOTE- that the "maybe" one lists under folder XP but has a 2K INF file inside it. -POSSIBLY- you could try the "trick" jaclaz proposed? (INF CODE AT BOTTOM! ???How the HECK do you add text AFTER end-post Code/Quote boxes???) -EDIT- DOH! BWK (basically) already tried that. Still the OLDER one MIGHT work (comparing now) (contents inside XP INF) EDIT2 - more info on it - https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Intel_WiFi_Link_5100_%28abgn,_full_size%29 Based on above, here's an XP one from HP - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&softwareitem=ob-63029-1 Whether the same as the Lenovo, I don't know. edit3 - CRUD! v12.0.4.0 and higher - http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/cs-008168.htm ...which is BS since I got (from pcpitstop) "DriverVer = 04/27/2008,12.0.0.73" (XP and Vista "CD") ... - wondering if this one would work? (following is from above mentioned INF) ; Lenovo_5100_AGN_1x2_MC%NIC_MPCIEX_5100AGN_1x2_MC_MOW2% = Install_MPCIEX_Lenovo_5100_AGN_1x2_MC_XP_MOW2 , PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_4237&SUBSYS_12118086 ; MOW2

  3. Well, as the link states Akamai is very prevalent so you may get some "hits". AHHH! Here ya go! Stealth and another Setting! http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/12822-42-kerio-packet-attack http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r16306145-Kerio-2.x-TCP-ACK-Packet-Attack-blocking-images-on-forums It appears that it's a "garbage" Log Entry that should be turned off and disregarded. side note - I also have that version but use Symantec instead and have "Stealth" turned off because it DOES block some items that shouldn't be blocked. Indeed, it actually BLOCKS my Website's proper functioning.
  4. Ummm... Defender is not the Full MSE and installing MSE -should- "disable" Defender so only MSE's Real-Time Trojan/AV modules don't conflict. IOW, MSE is -supposed- to be a -better- Defender. BTW, which Avast do you have, the "free" Antivirus? I don't remember if it's Real-Time or not. That would be the main thing in addition to GOOD detection rate. Be aware that -any- Real-Time is going to (probably) run as a Service and "slog" you computer some (obviously). Oh, and -most- AntiVirus Solutions -usually- disable Defender as well. HTH
  5. Well, not to go 'round and 'round arguing, I think you misunderstood. You said and I said Just For Your Information / In Other Words. And JFYI, the one you link to isn't the one I have - mine's a KB-9001E (on the sticker) and appears to be more like the KB-400i (says HQK BITS9001 on the plastic). And YES the DO only activate with the Fn Key. Here's a "generic" description of those keyboards (note that this describes symbols instead of keys, obviously for a different model). I have no clue wheter you have to have an actual Driver/Software, but I believe that it MAY be possible to set the Keys (again, reference ScanCodes and any "special" settings). http://www.telecommander.com/pics/links/keyboards/turbo-trakkeyboardat/turbo-trakkeyboard.htm BTW, I didn't suggest you purchase THAT brand, just suggesting that they DO EXIST with a Power Key (you "misunderstood"). It's really up to you to find what you want (and jaclaz was kind enough to look for you too).
  6. IP addresses from China (and others) are common. I get them all the time, sometimes due to a scan for an open port to detect Servers (usually) to attack/steal-from (see last sentence). Akamai may be problematic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akamai_Technologies Maybe you have "auto-update" turned on in something? On my ISP's Router (ATT ADSL) I have everything blocked incoming except my Website/FTPsite. Bear in mind, using any P2P software will cause activity due to "searching for a P2P file" that you -may- have downloaded. edit - here's something interesting (goes along with the Wiki link above) - http://forums.kerio.com/t/16572/kerio-http-protocol-inspector-problems-with-facebook-
  7. Yes, it is, and apparently there was some kind of "problem" with it being correctly register. Just google quartz.dll "windows 7"and you'll get "why" RT7Lites was set to do that.
  8. Um, the OP wants to "mass-convert" the DOC to RTF. FYI, I just used Windows98SE Wordpad.exe (Program Files\Accessories) while running Windows2K3 and it DOES function, so I will "assume" that it will work under Win2K. However, this will -not- do mass-converting. The reason I posted this is to -stop- the nonsense about getting/buying -any- version of MS-Word/MS-Office/MS-etc. since it's useless to spend money on something the OP already has that will function just fine PER DOCUMENT (REF POST#2, sheesh!).
  9. Hate to tell you this, but this "news" is several months old. It appears that these folks are pushing their "research" to gain notoriety. I've yet to find the "research paper" and must also note I had found it on Twitter, including the fact that it was refuted by other scholars that -had- read the research. (I can't find it again ATM.) I wouldn't take much stock in it except the "unprotected public" wifi part. edit - and I do believe they don't even have the definition right - Trojan vs Virus? Chameleon as Virus (really old) - http://virus.wikia.com/wiki/Chameleon As a Trojan, it appears to be the "Ransomware" one (google it). More on the one in said article here - http://www.deccanherald.com/content/388529/airborne-wifi-virus-threat-virtual.html The disinformation campaign to get a Paper accepted and published? edit2 - ?May be the "research"? http://link.springer.com/article/10.1186%2F1687-417X-2013-2 edit3 - YES, that's the one! Note how it says that the FIRMWARE is replaced? THAT is "I call BS" part that was being refuted. HOW does FIRMWARE get updated?
  10. Harsher words are hilited... Now this is harsh (-hilited-) - "Few or -no- Members use it" In any case, to bump a Nine Day Old Topic that didn't have a single reply must be a telling indicator.
  11. See these (one after the other) and follow the links inside - http://blogs.msdn.com/b/securitytipstalk/archive/2010/08/26/microsoft-security-essentials-vs-windows-defender.aspx http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/forums/1/tech-helproom/4210397/microsoft-security-essentials-vs-windows-defender/ According to those, the Win8 version is, in essence, Essentials but Defender (older) is only AntiMalware thus Essentials is "more than just that" (to paraphrase).
  12. JFYI, since you mentioned it, I have a PS/2 Keyboard I just swapped out (due to high usage and therefore letters worn to the point of indecipherable) that has additional Power/Sleep/Wake -plus- an "Fn" key on the upper right (Brand/Model? = TurboTrak). IOW, they do exist - you just have to find them.
  13. NO YOU CANNOT PUT TWO KEYS IN ONE XML. THIS HAS BEEN DISCUSSED HERE BEFORE RECENTLY. USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION AT THE TOP OF THIS PAGE. HERE IS THE TOPIC FOR LAZY PEOPLE THAT WANT GIFTS INSTEAD OF WORKING FOR IT - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/170809-multiple-windows-7-versions-on-same-iso-unattended-product-key/ AND QUIT YELLING. WE HEAR YOU JUST FINE, DAMMIT!
  14. FYI. RT7Lite did not originate here nor do we have any association with the Author. We therefore can't give you any assistance with a Project not of "our own" that development has -obviously- been discontinued. If that WIM has that in it and you didn't put it there via RT7Lite, you have a Pirated (warez) version. If not (i.e. yours is legit) then stop using RT7Lite and use this instead. http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/139077-7customizer-a-windows-7-customization-and-deployment-tool/ @WarS - did you not notice there were NO replies to the OP? Does that say anything about support -here- for that Product at all? Few or -no- Members use it because it tended to be loaded with bugs.
  15. BIOS code has never supported anything but keyboard. Here's a topic referencing Scancodes - the BIOS has to "detect" what key is pressed in order to perfom it's magic. Much like the "programmable calculators" (Motorola, I believe) there is Firmware for detection of a KEY that is pressed - other devices have no such facility. How many times would you click on a mouse to get, say, F11? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171136-disable-the-web-key-on-keyboard/ Remember, the BIOS has a rudimentary BINARY PROGRAM CODE. Google e.g. "scancodes keyboard" (no quote) to get the gist of the detection stuff.
  16. Under Windows 7, BCDEDIT (google that) or (alternative) EasyBCD. HTH
  17. Yeah, I decided to "dig into" just a bit (never cared before) and also found this - http://www.ghacks.net/2010/06/06/the-ultimate-guide-to-keyboard-remapping/ which indicates Keyboard Mapping in "CurrentControlSet" along with the corresponding ScanCodes (ref the note to ScanCodes above). Of course, this is different than assigning a Key to a given Function, as noted also above. edit - and the above link provides several other alternative Keyboard Softwares in addition to the one noted.
  18. ? The "Home" key is set to open IE???? On a Standard PC Tower, standard Keyboard (what your Driver apparently is), mine (even in Explorer) goes to the Upper Left of any given Window. That's generally a "standard" and Home key means, well, GO HOME. Odd that you have that set. I also note that following the above links indicate that it may be a "non-Standard" setting (note the reference to IntelliType software "controlling" the HotKeys). I also note installing certain Video Drivers (e.g. Intel) do this as well (spanky new "hotkeys"). Guess I'm just dumb?
  19. You can't run MSCONFIG that way - it's strictly GUI. All tweaks you want must be done via Registry (REG file) entries.
  20. Um, yeah... "User error". Bet you found those files EXACTLY where I said you would. If you'll note I specifically stated ATM, I'm not going to bother reading jaclaz detailed how-to post above, but probably that will work since he's trusted to do so. There are several methods that could be used to "remerge" everything back to where they should be - I've done this several times. Fortunately for you, NOTHING appears to be "lost". If you have any further troubles from above procedure, there are (as I stated) alternative methods. @jaclaz - I use the "stock" OE (XP/2K3) and it's never failed me -and- have transferred/merged/export-imported a number of times -and- use Gmail with it.
  21. At the end of (inside) your BAT/CMD, place this del "%appdata%\winrar\yourbatname.bat"
  22. AFAIK, you can't. Do you have an aversion to using a BAT/CMD (that in essence, by default, "calls" CMD.EXE/COMMAND.COM). Let me try again... "Setup=" needs to have a PROGRAM (EXE/BAT/CMD/COM - SEE THE MS LINK), not an "Command from within a Program", since it is (literally) CALLING the Program to Execute. MS (AFAIK) never implemented such a "feature". http://ss64.com/nt/cmd.html Use a BAT/CMD file that issues the "Copy" and be happy.
  23. ROTS strikes again! Did you miss this part?
  24. Sorry, apparently that "Option" doesn't exist in Windows 2000. The folders having a "{stringofhexnumbers}" exist and are empty? If that's true how could you have logged into Outlook Express and have an "Inbox" (Filename is "INBOX.DBX" in ONE of those generated folder names)? THAT is IMPOSSIBLE!
  25. "Copy" is an internal Command ("parameter", if you will) of the Program CMD.EXE/COMMAND.COM, not an actual Program. Files with BAT/CMD as a suffix are considered Externel "Programs" even though they by default invoke one of the two. Remember, the "Setup=" SFX Parameter expects a Program to be invoked. http://www.computerhope.com/copyhlp.htm Non-NT - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/35284
