  1. Seems to be OK now (extracts properly). Weird Auto-Update on first execution. Would it be possible for it to -ASK- if you want an auto-update on first exeutution (maybe leave that empty in first install inside the INI and check for it as a "first run" test) -AND- if it "fails to connect" will it still run? Or should I turn off Network and give it a go (haven't test "not-connected")? Other than above, will -not- have time to fully test. "Have grand-kids, must travel..." so far...
  2. EI.CFG and PID.TXT need to be set up for -your- edition of Windows 8, since Core and Professional are -absolutely- different keys! I thought that would have been found in your research. There's a website (dellwindowsreinstallationguide) that will help more with the confusion/differences/whatyoumayneed. There's Retail (purchased) and OEM (key embedded in the BIOS) as well AFAICT and that needs to be reflected in the EI.CFG also. As said here and multiple other sites, MS has made Win8/8.1/8.1Update1 reeeel hard to get past -and- not wipe your install apparently, even for legitimate use. Windows 8 For Dummies summed up in one sentence - Install Windows 8 clean or Upgrade, we don't care, just do -exactly- like we want or suffer the consequences (and you will).
  3. Still no extract of Installer possible... What's changed?
  4. ISO vs the Store -appears- to be a different operation. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/update-from-windows-8-tutorial ...and Here is more info on using that ISO as opposed to via the Store - http://www.askvg.com/fix-windows-8-genuine-product-key-doesnt-work-for-windows-8-1-clean-installation/ Yep, you "blew" all of the previous Installation stuff, but what you now have you can proceed to Activate. More about that Product Key silliness and a couple more "tricks" - http://www.howtogeek.com/187525/how-to-perform-a-clean-install-of-windows-8.1-with-a-windows-8-key/ A couple of more "tricks" - http://www.intowindows.com/download-windows-8-1-iso-from-microsoft/ Quite simply, Windows 8.1 as a "standalone" (via ISO) requires Windows 8.1 Product Key. There's been another topic or two here that points to "how to get an ISO" (jaclaz' commented?). You didn't do your homework, I'm afraid. Now about that EI.CFG file... === --EDIT! Can you clarify your initial post? I was under the impression you had already done 8.0->8.1, or are you refering to the Update-1 ("rollup") which I also had thought you had done? === If you google this "windows 8" "8.1" "upgrade" "product key"you'll get a wealth of information, several more tps will show viia the "www.eightforums.com". ICYMI, absolutely nothing that MS has you do is straightforward. Also google this. "windows 8" "8.1" "upgrade" "from iso" -preview
  5. Hmmm... extraction for purpose of "noinst" (see previous post above) appears that the Package is "incomplete", e..g. where's the UNIEXTRACT.EXE file? Something wrong with the Installer Build? Try the "extract" on the old Beta package and then the New Beta2. Something odd going on.
  6. Use Download Manager to get above link from Author's website. "Save As" even in Firefox fails just like IE sometimes does (truncated file). Must be the website. edit - If direct download, size should be EXACTLY "10,273,263 bytes". FYI @anyone - you can use the "official" v1.65 that was released (see first post) and get the "noinst" one, then use it to "extract" the v1.7beta to get your own "noinst" (self-contained in the extracted {app} folder). Get and use Official 7-Zip (free) to extract the RAR file. HTH edit2 @SevenOptimus - Errr, forcing an Online Check for Updates each time you execute? Add that to your Preferences to deselect. Surely that's an easy code change?
  7. As stated, that Rollover Effect won't be "captured" in a Single File, since it's obviously separate images. function MM_swapImage() { //v3.0var i,j=0,x,a=MM_swapImage.arguments; document.MM_sr=new Array; for(i=0;i<(a.length-2);i+=3)if ((x=MM_findObj(a[i]))!=null){document.MM_sr[j++]=x; if(!x.oSrc) x.oSrc=x.src; x.src=a[i+2];}IOW, you're out of luck since it's a JavaScript. I saved it in IE6 as an MHT and the Images are ON the Website (right-click image and see Properties). Try downloading using HTTRACK and THEN open it in IE and save as MHT, as it will LITERALLY be on YOUR computer. I personally have no need for that Page, so it's up to you to test the theory (cleaning junk off HDD now to get space back). HTH
  8. No, the whole dang Website from a given Screen all in one go (all in one execution)! It basically will "mirror" it! IOW, the "mirror" I made of Kel's I can double-click on the Main Screen and navigate throughout it EXACTLY AS IF I WERE ON HIS WEBSITE! Hope that clears it up... (note the description...) HTTrack Website Copier - Free Software Offline Browser (GNU GPL) www.httrack.com Give it a try and see if it suits your needs. HTH
  9. OK, here's what I was getting at. Please note that EVERY SINGLE ITEM in the NIC's Properties->TCP/IP Settings is the Defaults and I do NOT hard-code -any- values! NOTE that the last one is from a USB Wireless I temporarily had plugged in so it automatically correlated my HostName (sound-yadayada) to the Wireless NIC's -PHYSICAL ADDRESS-! Routers generally use -PHYSICAL- -PLUS- The HostName to hand out IP's to any given Device. Note that I have -HARD ASSIGNED- one NIC (the one listed in the codebox above) within the ROUTER. The OS is given "Automatic" for -EVERYTHING-. The point? I -specifically- asked if you have set the SAME HOSTNAME (in my example "sound-yadayada") for both OS1 and OS2. I may have mis-spoke. HOW is the OS1/OS2 -and- the Router set up? The -ROUTER- settings will have a LOT to do with it! NOTICE that MINE is FIXED to a given NIC's PHYSICAL ADDRESS! Please note that I have a Triple-Boot setup and -each- OS1/OS2/OS3 is set to "Automatic" (NO HARD-CODING IP'S AT ALL!) Also note the VM98SE in the codebox below. See that it had AUTOMATIC ASSIGNMENT OF OTHER THAN x.x.x.64? This is via a Test Win98SE on a VPC2007 which "simulates" a different type NIC and "reroutes it" through VM Software which -then- provides an Entirely Different Physical Address. Advanced SettingsEdit Address Allocation Settings SettingsSpecify Device Addressing and Public/WAN IP Address MappingFirewall Current DeviceProtection Device Address Status Address AssignmentY sound-sc8uije2w 192.168.1.64 Connected DHCP Prv Fixed: 192.168.1.64Y VM98SE 192.168.1.69 Connected DHCP Prv pool: 192.168.1.0Y sound-sc8uije2w 192.168.1.73 Not Connected Prv pool: 192.168.1.0--sound-sc8uije2wConnection Type: EthernetIP Address: 192.168.1.64IP Address Allocation: DHCPIP Address Type: Private (NAT)Hardware Address: 00:16:ec:f5:e5:1a--VM98SEConnection Type: EthernetIP Address: 192.168.1.69IP Address Allocation: DHCPIP Address Type: Private (NAT)Hardware Address: 00:03:ff:1c:bd:9cAgain, your OS1/OS2 Settings -PLUS- the Router settings determine -HOW- your IP is assigned. Obviously, your OS1/OS2 is using the -SAME PHYSICAL NIC ADDRESS- It is -=currently unknown- how your ROUTER is set up. I -SUPPOSE- that I coulds REBOOT into one of my OTHER OS's to ptove my point, but I'm telling you that you're looking strictly at the OS1/OS2 Settings and fiddling with them as opposed to looking at the Router Settings. AGAIN, -DO YOU- have different HostName between OS1/OS2? Generally, a Router will assign (via DHCP within the Free Pool Range) whatever it likes regardless of OS1/OS2 using the DHCP Server/DNS Server assigned (in my case AUTOMATIC). Humor me - look in the Router for some Advanced Settings and tell me what you see. Quit hard-assigning your Dual-Boot, let them BOTH auto-assign -EVERYTHING-. I will -assume- you are using two different HostNames (ComputerName) between OS1/OS2 so other PC's on the LAN can distinguish which one is running? I see no ther reason for having different between them. Seriously, the ROUTER will have a LOT to do with your "problem". Your trying to fix it within OS1/OS2. C-ya after you provide Router Info (including make/model, mines the stock ISP-provided ATT 2Wire), OK? HTH (hope I don't have to come back and edit this due to errors...) (I -may- come back and edit -after- I Reboot to a different OS Hostname to check the Router IP Assignment to the SAME PHYSICAL NIC.)
  10. You're being unclear. Question #1 - By what method/procedure did you originally switch IDE to AHCI? Question #2 - WHAT Motherboard? I find no mention in any of your older posts. Please answer Questions or no help can be given. Information - Both the BIOS set to AHCI -and- a Slipstreamed SATA (-not- RAID) Drivers need to be done for Install -or- IDE Mode set in BIOS, install XP, install SATA Drivers (-not- RAID), reboot, set SATA Mode in BIOS. HTH
  11. No, untrue! I specifically mentioned AutoPatcher and gave a link above. It's inside the package (all English). Hence suggesting that Acheron may be able to help with the Language Translation and Repackaging. What I -did- say was that the -originals- from MS are long-gone (they -appear- to be "HotFix By Request" and not generally available). HTH (get the Autopatcher files, as I suggested and compare to U98SE SP3 list). I -suppose- I could get a full Fix List and upload it if you -really need it but by getting the Package (December 2007 Full -plus- the December 2008 Update) you'll have the whole set of English Updates in their Original or Patched/Unofficial forms. Again, U98SE SP3 is -not- individual Install files but made as a "Service Pack", qute different packaging. HTH
  12. HTTRACK, which jaclaz so kindly suggested elsewhere. I used it to archive Kel's website in its entirety all in one execution. HTH
  13. Are you using the same Computer Name for both? My router specifically uses Computer Name (Host Name) and correlates it to a given NIC (the hard-wired firmware Network Address). That -might- make the Router (whatever make/model is) "confused".
  14. (cough) Linux (cough) Interesting read - http://www.murc.ws/showthread.php?30577-What-s-the-difference-between-God-and-Bill-Gates I like the post that said (post#38) Disclaimer - the above link has nothing to do with Religion.
  15. Landlord = "Free Wireless". 1 - Use a -good- Firewall. 2 - She (anyone else) can access NOTHING from another Device unless the files/folders are Shared. 3 - She (anyone else) would need a UserID to access it. Generally, an "open" Wireless setup just allows -anyone within range- to connect to the lan/wan -but- the PC's have to have File and Printer Sharing activated and that means anyone accessing the PC -must- have a UserID defined. That's why you should -disable- the Guest Account (usually the Default setting) and set a Password for the Administrator account (renaming it is a good idea too). The fears are -somewhat- unfounded. She would have to be one savvy hacker! HTH
  16. Kind of on-topic. Just because a driver isn't listed doesn't (necessarily) mean you need to get it. Usually (loosely speaking) the ones that -aren't- listed are pre-supplied with the OS in question. HTH Oh, and I agree with Den on the Win7. Not sure about that Win8 x86/x64 deal. If you have -one- Prudoct key given, then it probably means you can install either/or -once-. AFAIK, a single Key is the "license" in any/either case. Oh, and see this (found while looking for a Win7 "deal" for you). http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/172259-sigh-ms-scaring-windows-7-users-w-end-of-support-hype/ Seems they -may- be right about availability. OEM System Builder is available for around $100, but the FPP are disappearing fast. Noticed that last time I was at Best Buy a while back (Win 8 galore, no Win7).
  17. Quick! Dump Windows 7 for Windows 8! Oh, and Windows 9 is JUST AROUND THE CORNER! Sounds too familiar, doesn't it? http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2014/07/10/microsoft-windows-7-mainstream-support/ http://www.zdnet.com/microsoft-warns-of-pending-support-deadlines-for-windows-7-office-2010-sp1-windows-server-2003-and-more-7000031348/ http://www.techtimes.com/articles/10034/20140711/still-on-windows-7-microsoft-announces-pending-end-of-support.htm WE"RE DOOMED, I TELL YOU! DOOMED!!!! Oh, and get it while it's hot before they're all gone. Retail is disappearing fast and only OEM System Builders are readily available. (ref. e.g. Amazon) http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9244593/Microsoft_ends_Windows_7_retail_sales
  18. Doesn't look good. h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03138231.pdfThe HD stuff will definitely clobber you. HTH
  19. Chipping in. Dave, you didn't notice this at the bottom of the chart? It implies that anything -above- Win2kSP4 is workable. http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon1333/5000V/X7DVL-E.cfm It looks like they ARE supported! Select Windows and VOILA! Even Windows 8 is listed. http://www.supermicro.com/support/resources/resource_drivers.cfm HTH
  20. Now, please don't start "bragging" as I'm "degree'd" as well, also as a Systems Analyst/Engineer. How old do you think -I- am? Ummm, started in... 1970! Now that the peeing contest / "I can eat more hot dogs than you" is over (the above is a baaad attitude) ... As for your opinion, I may point out (again) the OP (that asked for an opinion) has automagically disappeared. To argue with ROTS is an exercise in futility (go ahead, search). Personally, I don't disagree with your assessment; I -do-, however, have heartburn with cluttering Topics with an argument. It looks -real- bad for anyone visiting MSFN. Do continue and please find a way to live with -that-. HTH Side note: The esteemed "Finder" isn't degreed either, AFAIK. Would you care to let him know that you're a Black Belt in Engineering? A request: Try -real hard- to stifle your ire based upon a -total- misunderstanding.
  21. No, I didn't say "U891711" is obsolete. The quote I gave (above) even says "Alpha->Beta", Alpha being the "patched" and the "Beta" says "added, but NOT active". Yes, without the "originals" there's no chance of Binary Compare to detect what was 'patched". Again, MS said "HotFix BY REQUEST" and ALSO said "Download via Windoes Update" (WHICH -IS- OBSOLETE!). Member Acheron is probably your best bet, assumeing it's -just- the Language Text that needs changed in the "Unofficial". Also, bear in mind what I said about -many- "unofficial KB Fixes" came from -newer- OS (as in the XP IE6 fixces and the WinME Explorer examples I gave). Yes, you -may- use the Fix List from the "Unoffical SP3' (see link to Topic) -and/or- the List given (that you found in the first place). You may need to compare the Lists to determine if you have -all- of them, bearing in mind that the USP3 is a "repackage" and noting that AutoPatcher is not, -but- does contain Official and Unofficial (incl. "patched") in individual Packages. This link -may- help (English files). This person is also a Member here and on "another" Forum that seems to not like us much. HTH and do take Acheron's offer of Language Mod assistance.
  22. Ummm... guys... The OP has no other posts. You're beating this topic with "opinions". ROTS, the OP -specifically- stated So... STOP it! The -other- part was an Office Product that works. And here's this "which OS is better" -opinionating- (again). Finally So, my -own- question is... What part of the first post was misundestood? Oh, and ROTS, if you actually read anything here other than finding topics to opine on, you could read this about Office 2003 and Windoes 98 - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/130936-kernelex-452/ HTH (Hit The Head)
  23. Yes, as I said an -anonymous- person patched it. I only have the "patched" versions (AFAIK) so I can't help you on the Binary Compare. I'm not really sure if MDGx would be able to help you, but you could try (IM in MSFN or maybe try the eMail link on his website's main page). As for the Time Zone Update, those are -strictly- Registry changes (AFAIKR), so just getting the English-Text fix and "translating" them to JA and reconstructing the Installer should do it. In fact, I believe that one or two TZ Changes (TZEDIT.EXE does them) have occured since the "unofficial" ones listed in AutoPatcher. They're undoubtedly in the Unofficial 98SE SP3 though. HTH P.S. glad you found the JA fixes (the links). edit - How long do you have to attempt to read an English topic? Some of your answers may lie within this - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/80800-auto-patcher-for-windows-98se-english/ Another reference to "patches", with a couple of links which -MAY NOT WORK- http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/49892-unattended-and-updated-boot-cd-for-windows-98/ In particular -this- one which has be -REMOVED- from MSFN (intentionally) by a Super-Moderator (do -not- ask why!) http://www.msfn.org/board/Unattended-Boot-CD-Windows-98-98SE-46-t88008.html Also you say "complicated". The person/persons who ALTERED a given module usually does that with a Hex Editor and not a "patcher" (AFAIK). Bear in mind -most- "unofficial" fixes are not -altered- but simply modules from a -newer/different- OS (e.g. XP in the case of IE6SP1 fixes) that were simply "transplanted" into an Installer. Another example is using a WinME Explorer.exe (ref. 98SE2ME "patches"). EDIT2! This is the -latest- Versions I could find referenced on MS website and it says that this is a REQUESTED Hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291362/ja edit3 (sigh...) another reference to said Patched Modules (scroll through) - http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/46581-98-fe-98-se-me-updates-patches-hotfixes/page-17 ‎
  24. This says - http://www.emulators.com/docs/nx34_2011_avx.htm Search XSAVE for more info in that link. FXSAVE - http://x86.renejeschke.de/html/file_module_x86_id_128.html Sounds like the "Save" is to save a State (?) and the "Restore" is to "put it back". This nifty utility will tell you all about a CPU's abilities - http://technet.microsoft.com/pt-pt/sysinternals/cc835722 This makes it -appear- (and that seems like other finds about the instruction sets) that it's/they're related to x64 and Hyper-V (VM's) - http://books.google.com/books?id=crZaAwAAQBAJ&pg=PT126&lpg=PT126&dq=%22XSETBV/XGETBV%22&source=bl&ots=I-cE5EvmRN&sig=486gHMwrDMoha3qmvFb9iYABrTM&hl=en&sa=X&ei=TXLAU-m1MYSryATXoICwCA&ved=0CDoQ6AEwBw#v=onepage&q=%22XSETBV%2FXGETBV%22&f=false Note the Book Name is titled "Mastering Hyper-V 2012 R2 with System Center and Windows Azure". Why would you care? It's strictly related to the OS/SOftware utilization of said Instructions. I will -assume- it means that the MoBo/CPU is capable of running Hyper-V (VM's), i.e. separately running OS's (with one as the "controller") simultaneously. Try researching that instead. HTH
  25. ??? Do you mean RAID or do you mean SATA? Raid drivers won't help for accessing SATA drives. Maybe you're confusing terminology? SATA is a HDD (BIOS can -usually be set to either AHCI/SATA -or- IDE/PATA) and RAID is a Function of utilizing (any typ) HDD, like SCSI-RAID. You have to have TWO or more HDD's in such a hardware scenario -and- have the BIOS set to SATA-RAID (that's SATA-mode PLUS utilizing RAID -Functions-). Please clarify - there IS a difference. HTH
