  1. IBM FBA (Fixe4d Block Architecture) 3310/3370 pre-formatted at 512 bytes/block. Records in files were written according to record-size, etc. Sound familiar? Kind of like PC HDD's? Think Original IBM PC's... Pictures and Specs
  2. I mean what File i need to edit & What software i need to useGoogle "GIMAGEX" (the tool) and read the Help file contained in the download. I believe the file name is "INSTALL.WIM" and is on the DVD. You'll also need "IMAGEX" from Microsoft. If you don't understand, you may be way over your head. Do a little reading before asking "how-to" without understanding prerequisites (e.g. "What is a WIM").Again, why change it? Does this DVD already have SP1 "integrated"? Google (and MSFN - see SEARCH button above) is your friend.
  3. Hey, I have an idea... "Un-alter" the OEM-altered one, back date the Created/modified dates, make a BIN (or whatever) image, post it in an innocuous place, then give said OP the link. Happy now? Get real! You've repeatedly been told that it's an OEM thing. It should have been obvious with the AUTOEXEC.BAT line "running" OEMSETUP. I'd offer to sell you that "image" but it's (OMG!) against MSFN rules. (DUH!) Heck, I even have an original Gateway "Universal Boot".- Here ya go - an image just for you! (sorry, guys, this thread kinda frazzled my beanie... I agree should be closed.)
  4. DRVCOPY.INF has the sole purpose of copying the CD-ROM driver to the HDD. Look here for what's on a boot disk. A simple google on that particular file will get you an example. It's used by "OEMSETUP" as a parameter input. There's nothing mystical about it. Everything you "need" is as posted above by others.
  5. BOOTDISKS.COM - as was stated, even an "unmodified" is (AFAIK) an OEM version and needs the CD driver (floppy altered by the OEM). I have one, but it's pointless. It does nothing more than boot to DOS and has a few modules on it. Essentially, in and of itself, useless until altered.
  6. ? Have you tried nLite/vLite?
  7. Yes, we all know that. Older versions can still be obtained. Google "firefox archive" (w/o quotes) and up it jumps.
  8. Wow! I didn't know either. Haven't been there for maybe a couple of years. Great tools...
  9. Did you "integrate" them in order?
  10. For those concerned about the validity of (any of above linked) downloaded file - 1 - search for and download HashMyFiles (free and stand-alone, i.e. no installer - unzip and run) 2 - Open the downloaded file with it and compare to - Filename - o2ksr1adl.exe MD5 - 0b076ecf291eb9b1a1f690cb5a1005c8 SHA1 - 4bc506902b13dd1eaa5f5c66c4cb03000d92af04 CRC32 - 0a842a40 Size - 53,816,504 Version - 4.71.1015.0
  11. If you have the FULL Restore/Recovery DVD, probably. But you may or may not have a "usable" D-Recovery partition afterward (probably not).
  12. I don't want to even speculate on where you got this "ISO image" and don't want to know. I can tell you that the COA key is good but doesn't match the ISO. IOW, it's either Retail (i.e. "full") or for another OEM (not for your PC). You would need a "generic" OEM version or for the Specific OEM to use the key you have. I'm afraid we can't help you on "modifying" it. There's a thread here that will give you a hint on what your "problem" is. BTW, just to be sure you understand, please go and read the Forum Rules to make sure you don't flub up!
  13. BIOS not= OS This must be a Fedora error. What was the OS before you installed (onto the HDD, not into the BIOS) Linux?
  14. Yup - SB User Guide - SURFboard_SBG6580_UserGuide.pdf Router Guide - 549XWR100 User Manual.pdf Straight from the Manufacturer. The time you've had the router is irrelevant. It's the Interface setup that makes me believe you MUST have changed from 192.x to 10.x series. Again, as for the SB, there are no "options" except what I've indicated. Like I said, if you want to Play Interactive Online Games -or- set up your own WWW or FTP Server, you'll have some problems with the SB because it doesn't have that facility unless you "turn off" that simple Firewall. Please reread what I've previously stated. It's that way or no way... (It's all in the Manuals and links I provided) Unless... someone else can say different, I believe I am correct.
  15. THANK YOU for FINALLY providing what has been request (I KNEW it was there somewhere)... The COA key (on the box) will need to be Activated... Again, I'm not so sure that it will work with a "borrowed" - it's YOUR pc's OEM key. The one found with a Keyfinder is the OEM's INTERNAL key (re-read your threads so we don't repeat again). They are totally different. The INTERNAL key is for Compaq to use to "roll out" identical PC's for sale. The COA key is unique for EACH pc sold. I'm doubting a "borrowed DVD" will work because the Version (your vista home BASIC/PREMIUM/which?) and Type (your Compaq OEM) must EXACTLY match or the key won't be accepted. Now that we have a model number please hold off a while. We'll see what we can find. It all depends on HOW the recovery partition was made (there are various methods). It may or may not be possible to "recover". Speaking of "recovering"... did you ever check in the Start Menu->Programs->(wherever) if there was a Compaq System Restore? (NOT a Vista, but a special Compaq one)? As I had said, IF it exists, THEN you MAY be able to use THAT!!! Again, please reread this topic and the info provided. edit Read this PDF file. The instructions are there to Create Recovery Disks and how to Recover. Also here are your specs and what is installed. Get back with us after you have done so.
  16. 1 - Boot to any Admin Account 2 - Create a New Admin User without Password 3 - Boot to Safe Mode (F8) and sign into Administrator 4 - Delete all accounts except the newly created account (#2 above) and the Administrator Account 5 - Remove Administrator Password 6 - Shut Down Give it away. Next time it's booted, the New Account should Logon (no password) and they can do what they want. Note: be sure to delete any/all files/folders you do NOT want them to have.
  17. It's called the Boot Block (common knowledge for fools that flash, like me). It's your Salvation on Intel MoBos (as I had stated before) when "blind flashing". That's the reason for putting ALL parameters in so you don't have to "respond" ("silent flash"). Try what Trip said - find the "undocumented jumper" (if it exists) and/or the "blind flash" WITH THE CORRECT BIOS (or you are even MORE toast!). BTW, you'd be amazed at what you can find on a MoBo just by visually inspecting it... edit @Trip - yep - that board is OverClockable! Bad to do that stuff!
  18. Those IP's are the values to get into the Hardware's Setup Interface (per the documentation). Your Router must have been "modified" to be using the other IP you mention. The speed is better because you are not "hopping" through the Router. Bet if you "reset" the Router it will then use the Default IP (192.168.1.1) and Password. Read the Documentation a bit (I got both of yours for this info). You STILL have to go through the Modem to get to the WAN.
  19. 192.168.0.1 <-SB 192.168.1.1 <-Router Both on same subnet. Theoretically, should work by hooking WAN of Router to LAN of SB. Router will get a 192.168.0.x. Port Forwarding (you own Websites) and Gaming will be the toughie since the SB doesn't have that facility. Sharing within the Local Network should be ok.
  20. A "box" bought from "PC World" that's a Compaq with no markings whatsoever - very odd!!! Does it actually SAY "Compaq on the Tower? If so there SHOULD be a Sticker on the Back telling the Specific Model and what's called a BOM-ID (Bill OF Material), along with a Serial Number. I have NEVER seen an HP/Compaq that didn't have this (and have 5 of them sitting here next to me)!!! Now, as for the "Drivers", Vista was/is infamous for NOT having all of the drivers on the "Install CD" so don't bet on it! There's no such thing as a ("useful") "activation key, product id and pid number". There exists one thing and one thing only - a Product Key (xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx) both the OEM "Internal" one and the one specifically on the COA (a sticker either ON THE PC or IN THE DVD SLEEVE). Anything else is BOGUS! Finally, barring anything else INSIDE the Tower is a MotherBoard that WILL have a stamp on it saying exactly WHAT it is. These MoBos are OEM-specific and if that PC as as new as you claim (core 2 duo) then there MUST be some specific documentation on the HP website. Again, anything else is BOGUS and you may have been HAD!
  21. Glad you tracked it down. It really didn't make sense. What's strange is that the INF install didn't even suggest that you should "Mount the Windows Installation CD" or inform you that KS.INF was "missing".
  22. ?re - the SB... I read the Guide/Manual - it only has WPS (etc) strictly for blocking WiFi access (secured vs unsecured) only (reference allen2's post - MAC filtering for WiFi). I seen no Firewall. And obviously the SB is required (it's your Cable Modem). Again - Anything connected behind the SB will need Firewalled (Software Firewall, e.g. XP-and-up)- With Router connected to SB, anything connected behind the Router will not. Be aware this is an Incoming Firewall, not an Outgoing (as in a Software Firewall e.g. Symantec). You might want to read up a little on the difference between Hubs, Switches, Routers. Your SB is a slightly more sophisticated Switch in that it has a DHCP Server, Parental "Block Control", and WPS/WEP/(whatever) but is not a Full Router. (I haven't looked up your Router...) edit - this doesn't match what I see in the Manual - Found this also. Apparently the docs stink and tell next to nothing! In addition, Line#2 above is misleading - it's just NAT, not a "firewall" and the "firewall" features are extremely limited and "non-configurable" (checkmarks ON/OFF?).Looked up your router. Did you check out the Advanced section? It has VASTLY more than the Surfboard, like Port Forwarding etc. (standard Router fare).
  23. From Surfboard Docs it claims that... Surfboard is a DHCP Server/Gateway (more a DHCP+"switch") with WiFi Protection (i.e. lock-out of "bandwidth" stealers) and "time limiting" for Parental Control (Go to bed Junior - Internet time is up!) This is you front-end and offers no Firewall protection. The Router is your Firewall. So... for any WiFi PC's (or direct connect) you'll need per-PC Firewall. For non-WiFi PC's connect through the Router for Firewall (connect the Router to the SB). Be aware of the extra "hop" and the potential DHCP-server conflict between the two. (A loose suggestion based on low-end knowledge).
  24. Please! If you look at all of the Topics under nLite, you'll find 99.99% are for a specific PC or several PC's in a Home Network (Personal). In addition, if you have the LATEST nLite and use a CLEAN start EACH TIME (did you) as EVERYONE is told, it SHOULD have worked! nLite ALTERS INF files (etc). You complain and yet (RIGHT AT THE TOP) it says "Provide LastSession.ini". Blah!
