    next nlite

perhaps i'm being impatient but i was curious if anyone knows what if any new features will the next version of nlite have and is there any approximate potential release date? needing a reinstall soon and i know as soon as i bother with creating a new nlited cd the new version will be released
  2. when i disable sfc, once in a great while a system file thats needed will get corrupted..dunno if anyone else has that problem but its quite a nuisance so now i keep sfc enabled unfortunatly
  3. i prefer this burning iso files than any other, ive tried quite a few burners and this is the only one that never causes corruptions when reinstalling ive learned some hard lessons losing disk data due to corruption so no matter what i now always recommend a full verification after any burn and never hurts to open contents of disk and click on one or two files to make sure its ok also...i hate....HATE cd rw's sometimes data mysteriously vanishes from them plus thier only good for about 2 or 3 overwrites
  4. does anyone have any info or ideas about this product? i dont need this as i can do it all myself manually but sounds tempting for speeding up my service of fixing someones computer...i have UBCD but it sucks, i'm sure it helps some ppl but it still sucks black boot cd http://cgi.ebay.com/FAMOUS-BLACK-BOOT-CD-I...4QQcmdZViewItem i couldnt find any real info about what this cd is or contains exactly on google but customers seem satisfied but perhaps they dont know much about pc's and i'm wondering if this is just ultimate boot cd with a gui or something
  5. i've had the same problem, i just install without that driver, windows seems to have no problems recognizing the sata on its own although i dont fully understand the OEM preset checkbox, i think it had something to do with that whether its checked or not i assume if its checked, it installs drivers that you slipstreamed, if unchecked it wont use anything thats slipstreamed??
  6. in case no one else mentioned it, i really like Advanced Windows Care, beta 2 works well i have used quite a few utilities, this one finds alot more problems than most others
  7. do what i do...simply right click on it, select properties then hide this folder now you wont have to see it at least
  8. i'd say he either couldnt or did not want to afford to keep the site open or maybe someone bought it, he didnt update it much anyway, however after all this time its still the most useful info for xp services. what will we do when vista arrives? i bet it will have like a thousand services running
  9. i agree slipstreaming is probably better, although i would think its still only doing what it would normally do if you installed it on top of sp1...someone can prove me wrong but i'm pretty sure its the same. but so far i cant complain goin back to sp1, no driver problems and on top of that, advent rising (game) actually works now with xbox360 drivers installed and no mouse problems with oblivion...i'm quite sure itsnot as secure but then again theres only certain sites i ever go to, i dont prowl the web like many likely do
  10. i've played it for about 24 hours now, i think i'm somewhat close to the end of main quest. very advanced game graphicwise, it even makes my 7900GTX break a sweat and scream in pain. if i max out visuals in drivers and ingame using mod tweaks it'll chug anywhere between 5-30fps outdoors but without filtering and just using high game settings with hdr..i still only average close to 30fps so i dont see how anyone could stand playing high settings on a lower end card.
  11. guess you dont recall all the millions of posts of people complaing about sp2 problems a while back, not as much now cuz many appz and drivers had been fixed to better suit it...but that doesnt mean its perfect on every system but nevermind, i installed it to 2nd partition to test out to be sure and see how it goes, so far oblivion and godfather run like they should and no bsod's that i had on other, i'll use this for a while, its not like theres anything on my hdrive i cant afford to lose or nothin
  12. everyone has pc problems and all can differ, it can be in relation to installed apps/drivers..etc mines not usually the same all the time...for instance with sp2 i've gotten video driver bsod...didnt get that on sp1, ya know things like that. doesnt hurt to try something different on a pc if one way doesnt work for ya...i'm sure you've done many things different on pc's before right
  13. all i know is ever since i used sp2, theres always some kind of problem i cant fix..i never had to reinstall sp1 like i do sp2, i do it now like once a month compared to once a year on sp1 thats why i ask i use image programs so it wouldnt be difficult if i actually did get a virus but only virus any pc i've ever had got was the blaster worm which seems to have been mostly nulled out
  14. 8 months or so ago i had a theory that all the exploits for sp1 would have been nulled or weened out for the most part...i believe most exploiters have moved on to sp2 stuff and all previous ones were likely weened out by antiviruses, server upgrades and more pple using sp2 i tested it using sp1 without any fixes nor firewall and stayed online for days and of course general surfing,downloading..etc. and not one virus nor any problems whatsoever of course i went back to sp2 ever since that time tired of reinstalling xp lately..minor issues, atm its game performance problems..it keeps getting worse and its not driver related. i'm thinking of going back to sp1 for a while, might not matter but again it might. so i'm curious how many of you agree with my theory that sp1 is safe to use again or safer?
  15. i have winuae latest version kickstart 1.3 rom shadow of the beast .lzx game all i want to do is play this game...how do i do it? when i start emu all i see is the floppy inserting into drive animation, no key seems to do anything..how do i load the stupid .lzx file?
  16. i reset the bios and even reinstalled xp...i also used a different video driver, after a period of time i noticed the hardware interupt started using 30+% of cpu again i recieved the same problems, memory/cpu and video are all way below normal still enabling or disabling pagefile did nothing like i said i never had problems till i first switched to 1T..however i may not have noticed since i didnt benchmark anything till after that so its possible that the problem occured when i put in that 2 more sticks of ram...i used the exact same ram so all 4 are exactly the same, they have led lights and seem to work fine my games run fine and fear runs better since its not using pagefile, i recieve similar 3dmark05 scores, a couple hundred points shy but could be any reason for that, pcmark scores are the same and still far under everyone elses compared setups my main concern now is figuing out why hardware interupts has my cpu usage so high
  17. its xp home but never had a problem in the 5 years ive had it
  18. heres the thing, i got another gig of ram, i turned off pagefile and the game Fear ran better. later i switched off 2T timing as recommended and formatted/reinstalled XP and now my system really sucks, other marks say my cpu/memory/video card are way below normal TechExpress link for your current results: http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress.asp?id=68KC0WFXKMCS0FLR heres my pcmark04 score, by comparisons its pretty low and why is my memory registering 333mhz, its suppose to be 400mhz, everything in bios is set to auto as was before i switched back to 2T and no difference, cpu usage is caused by hardware interupt...but what is that and how do i fix it. i havnt found a reason for poor video and memory btw, all my games play fine as far as frame rates go and 3dmark05 score is typical http://service.futuremark.com/compare?pcm04=3179255 thanx in advance
  19. good thing i'm not within arms reach then, but keep in mind i did reform and saw the error in my ways since i have a new case now lol ran it hard for couple days now, temps are fine and its overclocked so i cant complain, the key with cooling for this case was the nv silencer on my gcard, if the heat was blown around in the case then temps would be much higher
  20. oldest computer i ever used was in 3rd grade we got these radioshack tandys that were black n white, keyboard, monitor, floppies were all in one unit with worse than atari 2600 graphics, you turned it on and all you see is a white blinking cursor awaiting rediculously long commands lol reminds me though of the coolest game i ever played was on some late 80's ibm, it was fully 3d polygons with formula 1 racers on a floppy disk with the most destructive crashes i ever saw...i'd love to find that game again with an emulator,if only i knew the name
  21. like many pc gamers i always wanted a quiet high end gaming rig the size of a console system, not just for looks but for space, i finally came as close as it can possibly get so figure i'd share my mod for others who may want to do the same. You can use all components you already have except with this case you'll need a slim dvd drive and 60mm fans. components: silverstone lc02 home theater case 4"H x 15"W x 11.5"D $120 at pc-performance.com Athlon 64 4000+ 1gb corsair xms ram asus a8v mobo 6800 gt oc'ed with nv silencer 5 cooling 4 60mm stealth fans $cheap 3 60mm (10mm thick) cpu fans ( 2 used for case circulation/ 1 used for hard drive cooling) $cheap connect x power supply (used externally) maxtor maxline 3 300gb sata hard drive pioneer slim dl dvdrw burner $88 at newegg.com This is the silverstone lc02 case which supports full ATX and EATX mobo (slim dvd required with propritary psu removed) is designed for a weaker home theater system but with some slight modding it supports high end companants quite well, the top plate removes easily and is where both slim dvd burner and hard drive resides. it also comes with an AGP riser card with extension if needed and pci riser card but if you use a dual slot card you cannot use any pci slots, but i didnt need them anyway, if you do use an external usb version. any dual slot graphics card works just fine in this case. you can also purchase a seperate PCI express riser card and it should fit if pci ex slot is in normal position on mobo...if your not sure they make some with ribbon cable so you can maneuver your card, just search on google. the case also comes with slim dvd adapter, 2 side usb ports and sound ports this case is well designed but for max cooling some very slight internal modification will be required which i'll explain later. the case comes in silver or black and is very sleek looking. i suppose alternatively one could put rubber feet on one side and flip it for a slim tower look. http://www.silverstonetek.com/products-lc02.htm Being such a small case cooling is an issue, using only 2 60mm intake fans nearest to graphics card using default vents and 1 60mm fan for exhaust although as you can see from pics you can easily add up to 4 exhaust fans if you drill your own holes in case but i'm only using the default vents. in latest revision theres a vent above cpu so with this setup the system stays quite cool and i can easily overclock. I used the nv silencer 5 for graphics cooling...i found that the graphics card is the main heat source in this case and its imperative that exhaust be blown out of the case immediatly, so thats why a cooling source like this is needed cuz its vented out of the second back slot, otherwise your case temps will be much higher. i later threw in a couple of very thin cpu fans facing the exhaust end, one near northbridge and one near ram to help circulate the intake air, not needed but any better airflow no doubt helps. This is size comparison to my old Asus vento case, quite a difference especially since the lc02 is only 4 inches high by 15 wide it fits perfectly under my 19" lcd monitor and raises it perfectly to eye level. so using it this way gives me much more desktop space. plus its about 70% quieter. i didnt show it, but on that top plate i used a dremel and cut a rectangular hole under where the hard drive sits, i then silicone glued a very thin 60mm x 10mm thick fan under it to help cool it and it works extremely well. i also had to notch a couple spots on plate so my fans could fit right. The first thing i did was remove the weak 220w psu and used my atx psu externally...its odd but it works well, you can add extensions or solder extensions if you want your psu on the floor which i orginally planned. i tried to find a brick psu but they dont make any except for laptops. with all wiring in place, as you can see theres very little of it but you also cant use floppy drive or other such...if you need F6 sata drivers for installing windows you should first slipstream them using Nlite. www.nlite.org this way you wont likely need a floppy. for slim dvd i got the pioneer slot loading dual layer -+ rw burner...i must say i'm really impressed with this drive, its fast, slot loading is also alot easier, its extremely quiet and even loads content faster than my aopen and sony dvd burners plus i cant believe how small and thin it is, its not much bigger than a cd and as thick as maybe 6 discs or so. since you can use one internal hard drive then you should get a large one obviously, if you ever need more you can always get usb completed so if you can live without floppy and pci cards and want something fast, small and quiet then this is your best bet. i'm very happy with how it turned out, i havnt overclocked very high yet and case is warmer than standard tower would be of course but cpu temps are normal, graphics card is a bit higher but theres room for more vent holes if you want, also you can use a peice of flex pipe and route it from intake fan to intake fan of graphics card which i found makes card temps lower than a standard setup but likely depends on room temp at that point. i benchmarked heavily using mostly 3dmark 05 looping and system is very stable under mild overclock, havnt tried any higher yet. case temps are a bit warmer but no biggie.
  22. the system restore isnt really a backup, just a snapshot, instead you should use the backup utility thats included on xp cd which is installed by default on xp pro, instructions are here. or use a good backup or image utility like acronis trueimage. however restore points are saved in under x:\system volume information\_restore{558C94FD-3C7F-4954-A02D-26679E6D849E} each restore point's files are saved in a folder named RPXX where XX is a two digit number corresponding to the restore point.
  23. got an xbox360 controller for windows and wanting a really good key/mouse mapping prog to go with it. ive already tried joy2mouse and controlmk and didnt like either. anyone know of any good ones?
  24. i really like the 360 controller, bought one for my pc and definitly beats all the other crap pc pads out there. have to use controlmk to map mouse and keyboard though but no biggie.
