  1. In Device Manager, after a normal installation, you'll should find, under "Sound, video and game controllers", an entry for "Creative Game Port". The driver is "gameenum.sys" (Game Port Enumerator, v5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158), modified: Tuesday, 03 August 2004, 10:08:22 pm). But Creative's very cagey; that's really Microsoft's "Standard Game Port" driver, co-opt by Creative to make you think it's *there* driver. So...you need to make sure the *Microsoft Driver* isn't removed; then Creative's install routine can Do-It's-Thing (but *we* know...).
  2. Thank you nuhi. That was the missing incantation. Ya know, every time something like this happens to me I have the feeling I'm back playing Zork for the first time (i.e. "I know this will work if I can *just find the right words*.").
  3. Just one example: If I check to remove "Microsoft Movie Maker" from the installation, Movie Maker isn't installed. But the [C:\Program Files\movie maker] folder *is* and if you try to delete this "Empty" folder, Windows has a cow! | Error Deleting File or Folder | Cannot delete movie maker: it is being used by another person or program. | Close any program that might be using the file and try again. But, of course, the "program" is Windows XP! Catch 22! I find no entry for the 'movie maker' folder in the Registry or in any .INF file. The folder 'appears' empty and isn't shown as a System folder. So, why is Windows XP having this cow, and how do I rid myself of this and all the other empty system folder Windows insists on creating?
