  1. Interesting... I was reading a few things that suggested resetting your web settings as well as possibly a corrupt registry entry. I'm not sure how this could happen on a fresh install though...
  2. Have you tried reinstalling the drivers for the mouse? Does it happen with another mouse?
  3. Well, these days I'm a huge fan of FEAR and NFS: Carbon... but back in the day my most fav game most definitely would have to be Starcraft!
  4. Welcome to the BEST forum on the net! See ya 'round.
  5. Hahaha... I just saw it as well.. hilarious!
  6. That bad boy is just insane... Oh and... Jcarle... you must resist!!
  7. Uhm, no... I'm from planet Earth and I've never experienced such things...
  8. Good God man!!!!!!! I should have turned the system down before that, holy crap.... lol
  9. You're logged in as Administrator not with another user account with 'admin' rights? Stand alone PC? No network with AD?
  10. I have the Zalman 9500 in my machine with a P4 650 overclocked and it keeps me very cool, I'm quite happy with it... be sure and get some Arctic silver thermal paste for the conroe. Also, most definatly go with the SATA Barracuda, I just bought one 2 weeks ago, and am VERY happy with it. Disk to disk between sata 2.0 drive is insane, speeds are great, quiet.
  11. Heres my problem, I'm being audited next week in my department for all kinds of IT related things. We need to know how many copies of a certain software is installed on all of our domain computers. Does anyone know of an application which will allow me to search the program files directory of every machine on my network for a certain exe? I want to be able to put in my domain name, have it sniff out all the network machines, and then search the HD. Is this possible? I have Domain Admin access, so I can see all the machines. I cannot edit logon scripts or anything due to corporate policies. Any help would be appriciated!
  12. I guess my real question is.... how can I set a static route with the LAN adapter to only talk with the specified printers and have the wireless adapter only be used for the internet????
  13. I did a route /? in cmd line, didn't know it existed. I'm used to Cisco switches, not Windowz . Can you give me an example of static routes for a 10.42.0.1/24 LAN network and a 192.0.0.1/24 wireless?
  14. Is it possible to have wireless and LAN adapters both active and processing information across different neworks? Here's the situation I came across today... I was hooking up an internet cafe for a group we had in house at our exhibit hall. They had 8 IBM PC's and 4 printers. The IBM machines were jacked into our network through 802.11g PCI wireless cards and were online and surfing fine. The 4 different printers I hooked into 3 different switches which varied in location. I then hooked the PC's into the appropriate switches in locale to the right printer though the ethernet card. I set static IP's on the printers and set the gateways. I then set static IP's on the computers on the same network as the printers. They all printed fine, no probs at all. I just couldn't get on the net... My problem came when trying to surf the net. I couldn't ping the wireless gateway nor the public DNS servers when the LAN card was enabled. So, at this point, I have printing due to the satatically set IP's on the machines and corresponding printers... but couldn't go anywhere on the net. It's like IE says "Oh, hey... I have a NIC card which is active, I'm going to try and connect through it.." but, the wireless was the connection with the DNS and Internet capabilities. So, long story short, I ended up cabling the whole cafe, printers and all so they'd all be on the same network and Vlan. At which point I disabled the wireless cards and they were all able to both print and surf fine. I have tried bridging the connections and ICS. So, is there a way to have both interfaces online and talking on different networks? My netowrk engineers tell me no.... Any help or suggestions are welcome.
  15. I personally use Goldwave, it may not be as "small" as you'd like. But its very feature rich and can split MP3's and anything else with ease, plus much much more.
  16. Socket 775 has up to a 1066FSB as far as I know. I'm not sure where you heard that from. 478 is an older standard. Therefore I would recommend socket 775, or T to you.
  17. X-FI Platinum 7.1 with Altec Lansing ADA995. Just got the X-FI and I love it!
  18. I caved at best buy earlier and ended up buying the X-Fi Platinum. All I can say is WOW. This card is amazing, everything is so crisp, clear and sounds amazingly better than on board. The EAX and HD in FEAR are absolutely amazing. The CMSS-3D makes enhances the hell out of the surround sound and the Crystalizer tops it off. I hope the neighbors don't get to p***ed . I like all the softwares that come with the card, plus the remote to adjust the a variety of things and the front panel. All in all I can't complain and it was $30 less at Best Buy then on Newegg! Heres some pics: Card Card In Comp Back Front
  19. I have the Altec Lansing ADA995 system. I consider it to be a fairly good 5.1 system, has tons of range and a hell of a lot of bass and loudness. I have no idea about EAX, but it sounds promising if more game were to pick it up. Think it'll be a more impressive sound than on board with that system?
  20. I am very interested in this thread as well. I am currently using the on board audio on my ASUS P5WD2-P mobo and am thinking about buying the X-Fi XtremeMusic sound card. I don't have enough cash flow for the Elite ... it is my understanding that the X-Fi line are some of the best sound cards in the world. I am a music freak and have tons of songs, and love gaming. I've read that listening to music over one of these is like hearing again for the first time but better. Any thoughts?
  21. Its called Intel SpeedStep Technology, and I'm not entirely sure that is the issue. If the computer is idle, it would obviously step down yes, but once active again and in need of CPU it would step back up. So you have anything running in the background? Have you tried scanning for virii & spyware? Defrag? Pagefile?
  22. What kind of CPU, mobo and heatsink are you using? Did this just all of a sudden start happening or what? Have you monitored the temp on your CPU? (yes, I know... CPU heat isn't always the answer... just getting the basics)
  23. I would boot the HD in another machine if possible and then use a key extraction software for XP. There are plenty out there, just Google it.
