  1. I meant, why don't you switch to Red Hat 9? Amongst other features, better USB support, including Logitech mice.
  2. Is it a DSL or cable modem? If so, is it plugged in the Ehternet port or in the USB port? If it is in the USB port, you should probably install the modem driver. Also, if it is DSL, is your wiring correct? Did you install the filters on all phone plugs EXCEPT between the DSL modem and the wall plug? Maybe the firmware in the modem got buggy, so maybe you should flash the firmware. It can be a lot of things... give us a little more details, like type of Internet connection (DSL, Cable, 56k, etc) make and model of modem, drivers, etc, etc.

    Another Joke

A woman enters a sexshop and goes into the vibrators section. The salesman arrives and the woman says: "I'll take the blue one, the purple one, and the red one." The salesman answers: "No problem for the blue and purple ones, but I have to ask my boss for the red one since it's the extinguisher..."
  4. I just found an interesting website that allows us to travel back in time. It's a search engine where you enter a URL and it shows you the splash screen as it was when the site first launched. It'sThe WayBack Machine.
  5. It depends on the codec, I guess. Even if I've never experienced that kind of error while manipulating Divx (or any other mpeg4) files, I suggest you to install the latest codec available. I'd even suggest you to install ffdshow, wich is a filter that decodes all Divx and Xvid content. It's free and light. You can get it here.
  6. If you want to do it silently, you can have either System Management Server or Active Directory domain. In both cases, it will cost you about 1000 pounds... plus the hardware... If I were you, I'd keep kicking the kids of their PCs... They should go to bed from time to time, no? Maybe you can do the upgrades at this moment...
  7. Use Remote Desktop. It comes built-in with Windows XP Pro (not Home). To enable it, as an admin, right-click on "My Computer" and choose Properties. You will see a Remote Utilisation tab. Click it. You will then see a Remote Desktop checkbox in the middle of the window. Make sure it is checked and give yourself the right to use Remote Desktop. Now, to log onto a kid's computer from yours, there's is an icon in the start menu called Remote Desktop. If you can't find it, click Start, Execute and type mstsc.exe. Just enter the computer DNS name, NetBios name or IP address and voila. Note that nobody will be able to use the computer from the keyboard while you are remotely logged.
  8. I'd like to have something with a toilet unclugger and a wrench crossed like two swords. Thanks
  9. I guess the card is not just powerful or recent enough for your game. I mean, perhaps the game ask for stuff that the card doesn't have... You might change your card or play minesweeper.
  10. Try http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.
  11. I clicekd computer parts, but it rather OSes. I have some windows, had, DOS 6.22, mandrake 9.1. Looking for Windows 3.1 and anterior (especially Windows 1 and Windows 2 - yeah, they existed.)
  12. AaronXP is always faster than me... grrr Anyways, I'd guess it's defective RAM.
  13. I like it rubberishly burnt. The difference between rubber and leather is that leather won't bounce.
  14. I think that Matrox Parhelia come with 2 DVI outputs, and some splitter to plug a third monitor.
  15. Why postpone to tomorrow what can be postponed to next week?
  16. I use Videotron cable Internet (in the canadian province of Quebec). The ISP advertised 3.1 megabits down and 180 kilobits up, but I often get around 4 megabits, sometimes 5 megabits down (probably because of some caching proxies). The upload just plain $uck$. But, I have a bandwidth cap of 15 gigabyte of download and 5 gigabyte of upload every month. Extra 100 megabye is billed at 7.95 CDN dollars. Not that bad though, for 45 CDN dollars per month.
  17. That's the path for the command prompt in Windows NT or 2000. If you are running Apache on another platform (usually on Linux), then it won't work. I guess the hacker thinks you are running IIS rather than Apache...

  20. a) for the remote desktop page being hosted on Apache: there's no reason not to work: Apache is better than IIS and it just serves the files... about rdesktop, I didn't catch you were wentionning a Linux app... oups.
  21. On my side, I use Meaya Pop-up Killer, and it works fine. I don't see why I'd change
