  1. ok, got my cluster setup and both nodes are happy and active, now i want to try and setup DFS replication for the cluster some question i have on this, 1. should i setup the folder on one of the nodes it self? (right now i have a 500 meg drive shared as the quorum and 1 drive for each node of the cluster, the mini domain contains 1 DC with DNS, and the 2 nodes of the cluster, would it be better for the share to go on the DC, create the Root there? 2. Quorum drive should not have anything added to it correct, it is just for information about the cluster. thanks in advance i know i am asking alot
  2. i would think becuase of all the different additions that SBS has, that slipstreaming would not be possible, so am gonna go with a no on this one
  3. when you create the roaming profile for the user, was it convert to a mandatory profile? check the NTUSER file for the profle and see if it set to NTUSER.MAN or NTUSER.DAT
  4. Since there are only beta drivers for vista, if they weren't working he would not ever ba able to ge the game running. also if his chipset won't need to be updated, unless the mothboard maker has been very proactive and been creating beta vista drivers, then the ones that come with vista will be the only ones that work
  5. travis, you are right on the drive letter idea, that is a commen issue with many USB devices (esp HDs and cameras) Sir Pelidor, Wp and 2k3 are similar to an extent, 2k3's codebase is significantly different and more secure, writing a USB drive for the camere is up to canon, and maybe they just to lazy... sorry to hear you couldn't get it going though
  6. no worries on the question sometimes it just takes another part of eyes
  7. Minus, you are right that will stop a shutdown, but that won't always work, if the shutdown was initated because the RPC was actaully caused to fail, the command shouldn't work, but again i haven't tried it...so who knows.
  8. Stickzilla, Check out WSUS, it is a new and better version of SUS, Windows Software Update Services
  9. There is a .Net Framwork SP1 from microsoft .Net Framwork 1.1 SP1 try updating with this and see if it will go through
  10. DNS server would actually be the IP address for the computer that is running DNS for your domain, the DNS domain name would be like company.corp, it is the DNS name suffix for the domain. to support different scopes across different NIC, just set that NIC to a static IP in the scope that you want it to support, that should do it.
  11. it does accelrated graphics are turned off by default since they aren't used by many business programs, but they can be turned back on, it was easier for them just to have directx and acc graphics turned off rather then try and take it out of the code
  12. you will need at least a 12 gig partition, 10 for the installation and 2 for the temporary setup files, or have a second HD or partition avaiable. if this is a VM just up the HD size, if it is an actual HD just you PM to resize the drive
  13. you may have to find if there are compatible drivers for your camera for w2k3, it is possible that the PNP drivers for xp will not work with w2k3, check Canon's site to see if the camer is compatible with the OS
  14. diretx 9 can run on 2k3, though getting games to run also is another issue, i would say the biggest problem lies in the fact that the driver model for vista has been changed. the LDDM driver most likely aren't going to react the way that the games are expecting them to, causeing the slowness that you are seeing, even using none LDDM drivers vista is expecting the new style drivers and probably won't do as well with non-LDDM drivers. I am actually amazed that you got any games to run... couldn't get civ 4 going

    WMF patches

the problem with this particular problem is that the code has not been updated for a long time(no need since it wasn't broke or no new features) so it was still the same, they can't change all the code from each version, vista is still built on the 2k3 code base so some issues with 2k3 with happen with vista unless they fix it in the vista code
  16. remeber, since all the games that you testing on vista have never been coded to run there, most apps will run a little slower, ones that rely on parts of the OS that have signifcantly changed, (ie graphics) there may be more of a slow down
  17. the best way to not allow users to install software would be to not make them admins on their mschines. that would be the easiest way to do it, to adjust and configure the control panel, try a gpo (group policy). in group policy, you can find the settings that you are looking for under User Configuration\Administrative Templates\start menu and taskbar
  18. Client Access License, used for connecting users to a windows server, everything needs a license
  19. Enthusiasts or people with 64x bit apps either way they most likely are enthusiasts
  20. suryad is right, the code base for Vista starts with w2k3 Sp1, which is a pretty good place to start,
  21. many of the mmc snap-in tools were not available in 5112, go up to 5270 and they work, except gpedit.msc... freakin don't know how that doesn't work but if someone got it to work let me know cause it is really f***ing hard to work on group policy without it
  22. Suryad, the DVD that you get has Vista, vista standard or lite (can't remeber the name), the tablet edition vista and longhorn server all on one DVD. that all come in at 2 gig for 4 different OS's. if you look at it that way 4 x 600 mb (xp size os) that should be 2.4 gig. so actually they have cut 400 meg out already AND have added many new features.
  23. don't use 5259. the build was buggy, many things that worked in previous builds did not in that build, 5270 is much better
  24. could be true, i do see different volume control bars when opening the sounds and settings
  25. correct, you would need a new server for each site at least to setup the initial DC and get the site running, i know if sounds like alot of money, but it is a good investment, correct, you would have the domain australia.com and the primary domain, then have child domains in that forest, (nsw.australia.com, etc) this is one way to do it, there are other ways as well each site would have its own DC but it would be a child of the australia domain, to explain better, australia.com would host your AD for all sites, the domain controller at each site would act like a local repositrory for the the australia AD, allowing the users to gain access without have to hit the main DCs everytime, this allows for a central point of management for all sites from one place, AD sites and service will allow you to setup sites for each one of your physical sights as cluberti mentioned in a post earlier. what this design allows the impression of a single point of entry and change (ie autralia.com) where things can be changed and then can propogate down the child domains the are part of australis.com. It is a confusing topic, let me know if there is anything that seems confusing. Can anyone else elaborate more?
