  1. Could you post some of the errors that you are getting, also as chilifrei had mentioned is the DC that you shut down also the DC running exchange?
  2. Hi all, working with the WPI lite and find that it is not installing dependecies correctly, if you choose to install by category in the options menu, it will overide and dependecies that are setup. not a big deal to turn off install by category but just curious if this was how it was written to happen like this or just not noticed, anyway excellant installer!!!
  3. is this a SQl or access DB on the backend? it could probably be converted to and vbs script, but then where would you run it from? call it through the asp page?
  4. averagecdn, you still have to worry about different versions of NIC card and video cards and the like, building a Standard image you may need to gather all the drivers that you would per machine or device and get them loaded to s single image, then it would be a little easier, are all the machines you are working with a specific brand (ie dell, hp, etc?) are you doing this for laptops as well as desktops? if you wait a little while into the year, Microsoft should be releaseing a nice new tool called Ximage allows for multiple images to be intergrated together. very cool tool. @ cluberti, you know when this might be relesead?
  5. [qoute]Why even bother putting a pc in a forward lookup zone on a small network of 10 pcs?[\qoute] Like memnoch said, AD is highly dependent on DNS, cannot run without it, if both the forward and reverse zone are AD intergrated (which they should be) the record will be dynamically upgraded, it will be good for future expansion or implementation of new tools or programs also. as for WINS, only needed if you have 98 machine or 2000 (though it would use DNS first i believe)
  6. for such a small domain having a reverse look-up zone really would be need but it won't be a hinderence either. if it has already been setup don't worry about it, when a record is created in the forward lookup zone there is also a record created in the reverse lookup zone, no big deal, doesn't take up much proccessor time or space for that matter.
  7. does anyone else in the same group have the issues that you are having? will the group show up for them? if so maybe the problem lies within your account, check to see if anyone else in that group can see it correctly
  8. Citrix is a good application, causes some headaches but overall a very nice product, it is part a of suite of tool that Citrix offers Citrix Enterprise Tools here you can see some of the offerings that Citrix has, they even have a demo section Citrix Demo Center were you can test some of the Apps, Very expensive though so make sure you really need it before buying it
  9. hougtime, most likely what you want to do will not work, Windows 2000 was not designed to work with cleartype. i don't think it will be possible to use it without a 3rd party app that can emulate cleartype for you
  10. build the DNS name like currentwebsite.com would be a good way to go about it. this way your internal and extrenal sites are named to same, makes for less confusions and some simplicity, also allows for ease of setting of service like owa for exchange, in that case you would have owa.currentwebsite.com, where as of the DNS was different you would have to modify things a little to get to the site. not sure if that helps, but teh main point that having both the same would be benefical
  11. NForce 4 has had many many issue with working on Vista, you may not be able to get it running through that SATA drive, if you ahve a IDE port still on that board you can try hooking up a IDE HD and see if it will pick that up but i suspect the NForce to be the culprit
  12. you won't be able to take his place in the beta, unless you were able to contact MS on this, if he has left you his passport account info then you could get in that way, that is unlikely though, you would have to sign up for the beta like everyone else, as a dept head for acompany you may get a better chance of getting into it but if you have a MS rep for your comany you could try talking to them. upgrading to 5270 maybe possible, not sure though you would have to get the new version and try the upgrade.
  13. @xaero you can try and edit the ini, not an easy task, o check to see if ABIT has released newer verion on the driver that has been written write. @sideFX if the intial driver that came with the motherboard didn't work check out yukons site, they update drivers regulary, there should be a driver there you can use for both if you can't find drivers then you are stuck till the companies write them no way around that short of installing a PCI NIC that is supported
  14. Bastian are you looking for a way for mutliple users to do this? if so please try out WSUS if you are just looking for one machine, just turn on automatic updates and set it to install automatically No need for any other software then that
  15. check to see if the pcmcia device is rated to handle a USB HD, try the card in another laptop with XP and see if the HD can be recogonized. the configuration may not be available in vista yet....
  16. probably not, vista is still in the beta stages and will not be ready for awhile for normal use, stick with XP till vista is ready for main stream use
  17. yes, alot of vista does have the clean line that you seen in apple, it is good to ssee microsoft going after a more estically pleasing veiw of windows, make it easier on the eyes
  18. nothing so far but i will test some longer documents, how long was the one you were working with? also was it in word? questions to those who setup office on server, was anyone able to get office up and running on 5270 longhorn? i couldn't get teh asp.net part to load in IIS7
  19. try and format the drive from within the vista install, or does the drive not appear at all during the installation?
  20. if you add @ECHO OFF to the top of you batch file, it will hide the command window
  21. neilw2, do you mean support uk-english as a default like american english? because like biohead said you can add UK english fine...
  22. was expecting some more changes, i do agree it is much faster, was able to get the office server running on longhorn though stupid asp.net....
  23. Minus is right, but that is also if you are using the computer as a router, if you have a managed switch or the like, you may need to have it route dhcp packets to that machine from the second NIC
