  1. Ghostrider is right, if you are just connecting to an XP Pro machine that hosts your Application, you will never be able to use all 11 licenses, since only 10 conncurrent connections can be made to that machine at the same time. This is a limit that is imposed by microsoft.
  2. Creating a domain would provide some benefits for your clients, Creation of network drives for file storage, sharing and backup. easier management of user accounts and permissions to shares and network rescources, also easier to setup email and other network services to all users. go with the domain setup, in the long run it will save you headaches if they ever grow or need more then a workgroup can offer them
  3. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/scriptcen...s_ads_ecfv.mspx you can check out this site over at MS, they have alot of info on ADSI, LDAP being are part of that, It has some very indepth info there so i am not able to go though it quickly, if i hit on anything interesting i will let you know.

  5. turning off the IMAPI CD-Burning COM Sevice will turn off the built-in ability of XP to burn CDs, but if the user has rights they will be able to install another cd burning program and still burn
  6. Another option would be to load from Bart or WIN PE, depending on how old the machine is, you can boot off a USB mass storage device and run the PE from there, mapping a drive to a installation source or an Image
  7. no, you can upgrade the OS, but not just the kernel

  9. I have passed the 2000 tests, and you are right the 2003 ones are much harder then their predecessors. guess just have to study more, any tips or tricks that those who have passed the test would like to pass on would be great.
  10. how long did you prepare for each test? i know i studied alot, (couple nights a week for around 5 weeks) took some practice tests. i guess the biggest kicker is that is you don't use it at work, or on a daily basis it sort of drops out of memory, i can still setup say, IIS or ISA, but the exact steps escape me, and particular practice tests to work with, i have used a few, studied from the microsoft book(which aren't that bad as everyone says)
  11. I know this should probably go in general but the certs i am taking now are all server 2003, (70-290,291 etc) just trying to get opinions on how hard they are and what the best study material people have used to pass them. i studied pretty hard for my first one, 70-290, but failed witha 650, so i am close but i want to get a better score then that, studied for about 5 weeks before i took my test. Any tips, hints, etc would be greatly appreciated. Sadly i don;t get to work with server systems at work, only with VMs i have at home. Any input on a good way to learn and remeber some of this information would be great!!
  12. depending on when the system restore what taken, if it as done before you installed winmerg, then the system restore you went back to would not have it installed.
  13. though for gamers, it won't be long before you see games starting to take advantage of the dual core processor's abilities. multi-threaded games are probably not that far off....
  14. windows firewall works very well, cluberti could you expound on the hook dll., is this just a dll for a firewall product that has to also be set into the tcp/ip stack?
  15. but by having the lease being that short doesn't that create extra traffic for the network? or would that depend on how many users need to receive renewed leases. 12 - 24 hours seems to be pretty short and sounds like it would create a lot of unessicary bandwidth usage on the network
  16. JD, you are right, wmi is not available to use until windows is fully installed, you can set you wmi script to run from the RUNONCE section of your syspreped image, one windows starts for the first time your script will fire off and setup what you want, what are you exactly looking are you looking for the script to do?
  17. why will Net meeting not work for XP? it is built into XP. Do you not have the correct ports open for this?
  18. Wolf this feature does work, but remeber, that memory will not be nearly as fast as your system ram, the USB ram will be running at usb 2.0 speeds while your ram runs at nanosecond speeds, the USB memory won't be nearly as fast
  19. try Netmeeting, i believe there is a Mac client you can download from their website to run on it, not the best client but it is free and would work well on an intranet
  20. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en here is a list of all policies you can do in GPO. nicely setup in an excel file so you and import and export setups to .adm files. has files for IE and WMP

  22. most likely replacing those files will cause the system to no longer be useable.
