  1. slippery dog if right, you can a list like certs, but that might get you hired, but if you don't know your stuff, you won't last long, certs show that you like to learn and that you are willing to try new things,
  2. there are some things we would need to know first. How fast is the network?(10,100,1000) is it a switch that connects them or a hub? how fast is the server?(cpu, HD, NIC) all these things could play a part in speeding up the network, is the network seem to bog down at any particular time? have you tried monitoring the network traffic and such with perfmon or sysmon?
  3. you could leave the network path on D as persistant, then it will always be there, weither you are on the network or not. that would be a way to reserve that letter.
  4. ahhh, i know why it was so long now, forget about the network work drives was searching them also...
  5. they will release a newer Version of WSUS that is supported on .net 2.0 but is has not been released yet.
  6. gunsmokingman, that script takes a really long time to run.... been running on my machine for 45 minutes before it started returning results... shoudl it take that long? i would assume so since it is going through all files on the machine... but wow....
  7. kash, the IP that you are using there (192.168.155.1) is an internal IP that really shouldn't be linked to the website if it is suppose to be avaiable on the internet. do you ahve a intranet (internal) site and a internet site? if only the one page that is for the internet you will want to add the A record pointing to the IP 212.104.129.25.
  8. [qoute] Internally however the web browser tells me that there is a DNS error: “dnserror.aspx?FORM=DNSAS&q=www.acharrow.org.uk”. So there is a DNS issue. [/qoute] so this only happens with internal computers? (ie on the network?) when you ping the webpage is that the address you get? (192.168.155.1) make sure there are no DNS A records out there for that webpage and that IP, could be cause conflicts.
  9. Microsoft worked it into the code for SBS that it cannot be brought into an exisitng domain/forest that is why it is setup as a DC and all in on e box,
  10. I would say if you have another machine you could turn into a file printer server do that, having your main machine as the server get complicated and causes alot of problem when you use it everyday.
  11. you mean xml right? not xlm?
  12. 2000 pro was meant as a client OS, not to be used to host Server functions. thatis why you cannot install teminal services on 2k Pro
  13. is the IP attached to the computer a Dynamice IP? if so is it one provided by your ISP? because that can change from time to time when the computer is of f or what not when the lease on the IP is up. that could cause some issue.
  14. re writing the inf file may be really difficult since it looking for files that are on XP or 2000. 2003 have different version files and they may not work right
  15. A+ certifications are good, but lots of people seem to have that one. if you want to get into tech support or trouble shooting it would be a good place to start. Microsoft Certs are useful, but experience counts for alot.
  16. USB drive cannot be upgraded to dynamic disk, defiantly true.
  17. i had to try 2 pci cards before i found one that worked, what model netgear crad was it?
  18. it is possible that there are no drivers that are availbe for your card, my onbaord NIC has no drivers for vista.. could be none were written for it.
  19. Hi all, just wanted to see if anyone had installed and configured windows longhorn server yet. i have it running in a Vm and seems to be going good, gonna setup AD and such tonight see what has changed. any input into if anything has changed would be appreciated.
  20. If this is server 2003 environment, there is no longer any primary Domain controller. all the DC's handle the domain the same (except for the PDC emulator and a few other roles), so first quetion is this a 2003 domain?
  21. maxp, if you turned off alot of the graphical features you could run it on that machine with not to many problems, true the beta is slow, but it is a beta, it will get better with Beta 2, i have it running on a Dell D600 1.5 m 512 ram with a low end radeon and with most of the graphics turned to low or off (wdm) it runs fine. maybe a little slower then i would like but liveable
  22. Ok, had an app that i installed change the association of .cmd files. not when i try and run a script that has a .cmd with it it asks for what program to open with, not sure what it uses, anyone know off hand? thanks in advance
  23. bah, you are right atomic, i forgot to add in the cals.... thanks
  24. well just think about it, you are logged on as a reguler user. You accdiently download some spyware, but at that point it can't install itself cause you are not allowed to install the software, even it is trying to install it self in the background or what not.
