  1. now quick info, is this in a VM? or just on a partition on your machine? 1. Networking is normally pretty consistent, depends on what NIC you have and the drivers that were written for it. moving from to or from the MCE, i have been able to move files from vista to XP and back without issue, the network speed has been fast but finding computers near just takes for ever. 2. Works fine, never gotten any errors. Has worked fine in the last 3 builds that i have tested. 3. Browsing the web is uber fast, or webpages open with suprising speed, both from my work and from my cable connection at home. 4. no hint on audio drivers, remeber the whole audio stack was rewritten, i am sure creative has had a hard time rewritting drivers to suit the no longer kernal memory audio stack, expect to see them sometime soon since vista is feature complete now. 5. haven't had to many hung apps, actually to think about it apps have been running smoothly, there have been alot of incompatiable apps though. 6. not sure on this one...
  2. is your sound card being passed successfully into the VM? it might be the passthrough of the sound card and mic that is killing it not the running a dll as an app. the dll is being run, trying to get the sound passed through is killing it
  3. lol, haven't been able to find a copy of ghost ai builder, would another app work that tracks the files and dependecies that are create by the adminpack?
  4. only problem with this suggestion, if this is a very mobile client base, GPO isn't going to be applied very often to them unless you have it kicked off when they VPN into the network. what are you using for a VPN solution for your clients?
  5. Huh? could you please restate the question...
  6. good to hear!!! you should try this method with a couple users in a pilot and see how they like connecting this way, get their feedback on it and see if this solution will work for them
  7. there supposedly unpdate to the SMB in vista, weither or not this happend i do not know for sure, you can ask on the beta forums, they should be able to tell you
  8. the do not expire check mark should take care of the 30 day limit, but i warn against going this route, i would go with a 90 day over all password expires timeframe, this suites the users in the field and inhouse, 90 days is a decent amount time, again my opinion

    WinPE 2.0

yay for updates, can /prep the build folder fine now, has anyone gotten and applications loaded successfully yet?
  10. not really no, i guess you could right a script to allow a user to reset a password, but it would but a mute point since it would have to exist on a network share, or the client would have to have network access already and if their password isn't working well then they aren't getting far. most of the way i can think of it working would require hardcoding a account into a vbs script that can connect out to the domain and change the clients password for the domain, but as for the local account on the laptop, you won't be able to do anything remotely

    WinPE 2.0

when you add a package with the peimage it looks like it preps the the folders at that point, not sure if this is for sure or not, just an observation
  13. this is a good way to do it, but it does cause limitations, becuase the laptop was never on the domain, the users won't have anyway to change their domain passwords, they will have to call to someone to have that done. Is there a reason you don't want to cache the domain profile on the laptop? this would allow the user to be able to log onto shares and programs the requie domain credentials without have to type them in each time, also they can change their domain passwords then. the only time they would have to call in is if their account got locked out, or if the password expired and they hadn't changed it yet (for remote users they wouldn't get the days count down when they came in through the VPN) if you don't want to cache the domain profile then the way you have done it is a good way to do it, just know that the user with not be able to change their domain password.
  14. Sammycat, just download the WAIK and create a WIM of the drive, that should work much better for you
  15. YAY for the WAIK ><, PE 2.0!!! can't wait for the customizing to begin...
  16. that it is, store and encrypted in AD... but no where on the computer...

    WinPE 2.0

PE 2.0 was suppose to come out the same time as the 5308 beta, but it was delayed, PE 2.0 will be a free download once vista comes out thought, not just to oem and the like with the previous versions Vista FebCTP Fact Sheet • Windows Preinstallation Environment 2.0. The Windows AIK tool suite also includes a test version of the Windows Preinstallation Environment (Windows PE) that works in conjunction with this Windows Vista CTP. Windows PE 2.0 replaces MS-DOS® as the standard deployment environment for Windows Vista. Windows PE 2.0 is now freely available to all corporate customers. Windows PE 2.0 includes the following deployment advances: • A pre-installation boot environment has features for installing drivers, troubleshooting and recovery of the operating system. Nearly all Windows Vista deployment tools will take advantage of Windows PE to significantly streamline processes and reduce the cost of deployment. • In enterprise environments, Windows PE will enable IT departments to create scripts and applications to further automate deployment. For example, an IT administrator could set up a Windows Deployment Services remote deployment infrastructure, create a configuration script (or program instruction), and build a custom Windows PE image (by adding drivers) to enable a highly automated deployment process — saving money and making better use of limited IT resources @allen, MS has been using the Pe loader that you see there since the longhorn days,
  19. yeah, i would think any new services or program features they have added have some type of monitoring or checking feature runninng constantly to give them feedback about how it is being used and how they can optimize it. I mean that is what a beta is for
  20. never found robocopy to miss files, any particular size files it seems to be missing? are they missed at the same time? or just at random
  21. have there been any errors logged in the event viewer
  22. ahh i understand now, sorry for the confusion, lets see if i can be clearer, you will need a user account that is not attached to a roaming profile, so that when you log on to the laptop, a local profile is created, you will have to set the domain GPO to apply this Interactive logon: Number of previous logons to cache (in case domain controller is not available). This policy setting is found under: Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options if you want to set it too the laptop first as a local policy first to test you can do that also
  23. good to know thanks! i have a intel 2200 pro wireless card, thankfully it is used alot and alrady has good drivers
  24. mcaffe has a beta version of their antivirus software that you can d-load if you have a corperate licsence, if notyou may have to wait a bit to get a norton or macafee version, i wouldn't be to worried about virii yet, beta software is not a good base to write viruses against. if you are having issues activating then you can connect MS through connect and double check your CD - key that you got. other then that, reformat the HD you are trying to install on, that should help you get past that one point
  25. I wouldn't be suprised if alot of the services we see running are just there to for error handling and debugging.
