  1. Another Fun one, from the Start search box in your start menu, type in the name of the application you want the hit ctrl+shift then hit enter, you will receive and elevation prompt to enter credentails for evelated right if they are needed
  2. good info, we will pin this one
  3. try re-running the MSDE installer and rmoving it through there, also for vista use SQL 2005 express, it is the MSDE version of SQL 2005, but much nicer
  4. were these CD's download or did they come with the machine, You should only be getting a DVD of the installation media
  5. they already anwsered you, of atleast someone better then MS support, have you tried unistalling the updates from the previous update? try rolling those back and see if you can get it working, can you manually install patches or do they fail as well?
  6. maybe you could give us a little more information on what happend, did you do a upgrade to vista? did you do a clean install?
  7. Vista 64 runs fine with 4 gigs or 6 or 8 gigs, it is meant to be able to handle the load without issue, Sounds like there is an issue with the drivers for your wireless card, doesn't sound like they are ture 64 bit drivers if simply upping the ram causes it to stop working.
  8. you need to read through this Windows Automated Installation Kit (WAIK) User's Guide for Windows Vista that will give you the information you are looking for
  9. No, all registry keys and checks have been removed after RC2, either your card supports aero or it will not turn on
  10. on the the client machines run GPUDATE /Force from the command line or command prompt. then restart the computer, logon to the computer afterwards and open a command prompt, type GPresult. check to make sure that your GPO is being pulled down to the machine in question
  11. haha, wow, how does something like that get published? amusing

  13. once you migrate the machines from the old domain to the new domain you will have to go to the machines and change their domain registration (unjoin them from the old domain and add them to the new domain)
  14. using the WAIK and an unattend file you can set the setup language to anything that is supported
  15. hey all, just trying to get a handle of some experience across the board as to what people see as boot times for machines in there environments. doesn't matter size but larger ones are more what i was looking at becuase they would compare more with what the issues i am looking at here is the problem, our base image on the newest machines we have (core 2 @ 1.86 W/1gig ram) boots up on average 2:08 minutes, while thel ow end of the hardware scale is around 3:25 (Centrino 1.8 w/ 1gig ram). the machines start up with Citrix passthrough, Mcafee AV with EPo management tools, also checkpoint VPN software w/ zonleabs integrity agent firewall as well. These times are all based on laptops becuase they are the only problem children right now. any comparisons? thoughts if this seems slow or fast?
  16. more RAM is always useful, depending on what you do with the PC will determine how useful, if nothing else if you move to a 64-bit OS you will have 4 gigs of useable RAm, which is never a bad thing to be ready for a future move
  17. Exchange will not require any retuning or adjusting if no other Exchange servers are bring brought online. I am guessing this is an all in one Exchange server (no front end/back end setup) if so, you won't have to worry about exchange. FSMO rules probably are all still assigned to the First DC that was created, not normally a good thing but with only 2 DCs isn't that bad (extra DCs would be nice!). if the infratstructure was laid out differently, you might want to look into moving them around but with what you have it won't be needed. GPO's still are going to be applied to your OUs or domain, sites only bring into the issue of replication for your DC's and cost to replicate back and for across the WAN. Depending on how many users are at each site, you can keep your replication costs down by both being GCs
  18. you really don't have DNS setup on your computer, what you have is an IP t a DNS server, (either your ISPs or a one on your network) do you want to test his machine as a DNS server? if so you can add his IP into your NIC Properties.
  19. if you want to boot from the DVD you will need 512 in the machine, that is a requirement of the WinPE. but the No syscheck will work if you starting the installation from a previous OS, i wouldn't recommend 2008 on a machine though with 256, it won't be pleasant at all...
  20. Out on TechNet http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechn...hs/default.mspx
  21. that is correct, this would launch regedit under the context of the Admin account
  22. ok, gonna try and run this by everyone, need to make a DCOM permission change to alot of machines, is there a way to add remote access to the anonymous user through script or reg key?
  23. An alternative if you are at Server 2003 R2 http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_...er-2003-R2.html http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_...Windows-R2.html
  24. follow the instructions here http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=90244 create a full memory dump and let us know when it is done, we can find out what the issue is from there
  25. as of SP1 for Exchange 2007 you still need to install exchange on 2003 x64, i am sure that will change by the time Server 2008 comes out
