  1. Thank You keytotime and tempuser for your info and tuts , nice work I had ago last night at stripping down nero and all went pretty well for me. Found you can add the shortcuts back into nero using installshield so there's no need for sfx archive of shortcuts. Just add a new Componant and add the shortcuts into the component and set the path to where to install. Works fine for me with one exception , my shortcuts only show up in the current logged in user account not in all user profile (still working that one out , not hard once I understand all built in variables of InstallShield ). Good part is that all your created shortcuts get removed when you uninstall nero. YaY As for those that used the sfx way and wanted the Uninstall shortcut in there startmenu or whereverer , they could do properties on their shortcut and set the target ,as example for the nero I used (Nero-7.0.1.4b_eng_no_yt.exe from nero.com): Target : MsiExec.exe /I{C93369CB-B4E9-E095-9289-E6B5AE94FA5F}Will pop up Setup Manger with the options to remove , repair , re-install etc. or Target: : MsiExec.exe /uninstall {C93369CB-B4E9-E095-9289-E6B5AE94FA5F}Will pop up "Are you sure you want to remove this program Yes/No" The product code for the version I used was {C93369CB-B4E9-E095-9289-E6B5AE94FA5F}. Just replace the product code of the version your using. I found the product code with installshield: Expand Installation Information , Highlight Genral Information -> Highlight Product Properties, to the right of that you see Product Code. Cheers all
  2. Edit : missed page 2 of the thread ... already covered ..
  3. Nice work on Mindows , works pretty sweet for an 18.5MB installed OS. Winrar 3.20 failed on finalizing it's install: Result: Able to use winrar's shell to view archives .. but it use ms cab tools to extract. Via Chipset Drivers all failed from installer , unpacked and manually installed they succeeded with a bit of fidgeting around. Netwok driver failed to install from an installer. Workaround: Unpacked the installer agent on another pc and gathered the .inf and needed files and manually installed the driverand edited the registry , worked great after that. But there's a bit of a bug when you want to add drivers, the browse button doesn't work when you need to point to a .inf file. Workaround: was to type the path manually. (there goes the 98 interface we know). Same result in my audio driver as the network driver , same work around Same result Mass Storage USB failed, same workaround as network and audio driver. Nvidia Older version unpacked graphic driver worked , due to lack of desktop properties it threw a warning but initiated anyway. Desktop properties still wouldn't work even with the recomended added files. Basically any installer agent will fail to install due to missing/unreg'd needed files. Spose that keeps the system clean ...lol As lleoliveira said about those required files , I found their about the same files I had replaced myself. regeit was another file I added back as well , due to I needed to edit the registry on regular basis to make my drivers work and make mindows the way I like. Also patched my 95 explorer.exe so the Mindows 98 shows up the side of the Start Menu instead of Windows 95 ..lol I tested Mindows on a Celeron 1.3 ,512MB PC100 Ram, GF2 Vid card , GA-6VTXE-A Mobo Also tested it on a softmodded stock Xbox emulated in Qemu and it worked great as a 18.5MB OS can. Looking forward to future versions Keep up the good work. Thankyou and Cheers
  4. PC1: Celeron 733 64MB DDR 200 ram 10GB Seagate ATA 100 HD (running @ ATA33 as the mobo don't support anything greater) Samsung 605 DVD (reader only) GForce 3Ti (not able to use hardware accelaration) PC2: Celeron 733 128MB DDR 200 ram GForce 3Ti (not able to use hardware accelaration) Maxtor 300GB ATA 133 HD (running @ ATA33 as the mobo don't support anything greater) Samsung 605 DVD (reader only) The year model of PC 1 is 2002 , PC2 2004 Both are Xboxes running stripped down Win98SE emulated under XDSL in Qemu. Just 4 Fun..
  5. When you create your shortcut , try pointing it to "%SystemRoot%\explorer.scf" and not "%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe" Launching explorer.scf (which is a 80byte Windows Explorer Command file with a hidden .scf extension that doesn't show even when "show super hidden" files is set to show) will open windows explorer with %SystemDrive% expanded as opposed to launching explorer.exe that will default to My Documents expanded. Good Luck Edit: variables instead of hardpaths , I'm full of bad habbits amongst other things
  6. @ Nepali Yep I thought that was the prob with VMWare 5 for me , but it didn't matter if I ran VMWare @ Fullscreen or not , still 640x480 window nag on install of UA in VMWare for me. Doesn't matter if I run my real desktop at 1024x768 or 1600x1200 (that my default resolution on my pc) I still get 640x480 on UA first boot in VMWare. I don't find it a prob as I now have come to expect this when I test my images in VMWare. Cheers
  7. @ jase4772 I noticed you said VMWare 4 to test your image in your first post .. Have you actually tried your image on real physical hardware as well ? The reason I'm asking is , I had similar probs with VMWare 5 when testing my UA XP install. The thing is my install actually worked as it was spose to on real physical hardware. I was using the same settings as you , 1024x768 @ Default refresh. My UA at the time had no extra drivers added or intergrated. Yet when I burnt and installed it on a P3 1.2 with GF2 vid card it would install and at first boot screen it would be 1024x768 @ Default hz without any windows nag or having to change settings.
  8. The control panel dissabled had that one nailed global. In other words no Control Panel anywhere in windows by any user .. I didn't use gpedit for that one , but thank you anyway -M- -> in Start Menu/Taskbar: • "Remove programs in Settings menu" • "Deny access to context menus of the task bar" Doesn't remove "Start->Settings->Taskbar and Start Menu" But one I did miss was -> in Start Menu/Taskbar: • "Prevent changes to Taskbar and Start Menu Settings" <---- That's the one I wanted ...all good. Your translation was superb -M- Cheers and Thank You.
  9. Hi once again and Thank You for the response FAT64 , yep had a poke at the Group Policies editor before posting this time ..lol No success though. I work in a small internet cafe , I'm try to limit what a user can change with the desktop/start menu/taskbars , but there's just some things I can't seem to stop without using 3rd party programs. Lack of knowledge on my part is what seems to hinder me locking them down with what comes in XP without the 3rd party programs or shells. It's no biggie but it would be nice to get it under control. Cheers
  10. Hi All , Just after a way to hide/remove "Settings" from Classic Start Menu as well dissable Right Click on Start Menu and Taskbar. I've found most other tweaks/tricks I've needed in the Unnattended stickied tweaks sections of MSFN , but I've had no luck in finding the above 2 tweaks. TYIA and Cheers
  11. Cheers all for the heads up and insight , but I must admit after 24 pages of posts I feel more dumbfounded at which would be the best av out of all After puting up with NAV and it's non efficient ,resource hogging , obtrusive , overbearing and trojan like behaviour , I find Avast a refreshing relief for a quick parse over my my archived files. An av that actually drops the services out of loadup when instructed to do so without having to go any further then the interface of the av software amazing. The interface is actually crisp in response and I really don't feel the impact on my system while I'm doing other things on my PC while it's rattling through my hardrives doing it's thing. For my needs as a home user it does fine ftm. Given enough time I'm sure I'll learn to hate it like any other software that does it's own thing at an innappropriate time even though instructed not to. 2 cents
  12. You could try slipstreaming WMP10 straight into XP ... Have a read of THIS thread if your intrested. Works well for me. Good luck
  13. PC 1 = 4 x 400GB PATA + 2 x 300GB SATA PC 2 = 4 x 300GB PATA + 2 x 120GB SATA PC 3 = 2 x 36GB SATA PC 4 = 1 x 200GB PATA PC 5 , 6 , 7 = 10GB PATA each (all old Xbox HDs). Xbox 1 = 400 GB Xbox 2 = 300 GB xbox 3 = 20GB 8 years of Upgrading , I use to think my Quantum Fireball 10GB HD was all the space I'd ever need Edit: @FAT64 My lifetime collection of Movies, Music and Games wich I have backed up from my original VHS , DVD , VCD , DreamCast , PS1 , Xbox , PC games , Audio CDs , TAPES , LPs & 45s Records. I've purchased the original of every bit of what I've backed up apart from the odd TV series I've captured from TV. Still doesn't make it legal though
  14. Here's another to add to Security Tweaks section ;Dissable Network Connections in classic Start Menu->Settings [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer] "NoNetworkConnections"=dword:00000001 I like to see a reg tweak that hides the "Settings" option from the Classic Start Menu alltogether. Also like to see a tweak to stop access to "Taskbar and Starmenu" options from anywhere whithin windows. Thank You Mike for your excellent Utility. Cheers.
  15. Anything but Norton would be good , Norton is like using Amoral on the dashboard of you fine new car , Once you use it you have to keep using it otherwise your dash drys and cracks up twice as quick as compared to never using it at all. Bad comparison I know. Nortons Antivirus 2005 installed on Windows XP with SP2 adds nothing short of 9 new services to your service manager. By Default setting 6 of those 9 services are active (Automatically On at all times). Default Processes that show up in Task Manager after NAV 2005 install are: ccapp.exe (email scanning service) ccevtmgr.exe ccsetmgr.exe navapsvc.exe npfmntor.eve (Norton Antivirus Firewall Protection Monitor) sndssrv.exe (symantec network driver service) symlcsvc.exe If at any point you decided it was safe to drop your NAV 2005 from loading then think again. Example of above: My Friend and Myself aren't going to be connected to the net or any other network cause we are gunna bust each other up in UT 2004 or BF2 or something similar. We want all the PC resources for Fragging each other for the next 24 hours. I've spent the last 3 hours scanning my PC and a Friends PC for virii and malware with NAV 2005 , Spybot , Adaware , Java Blaster , Hijack This , RegCleaner etc.. All results come back clean. So I decide to open NAV 2005 -> Options and Dissable email scanning , Live Update and not load NAV 2005 on on next reboot. NAV 2005 still loads all the Modules and Services upon reboot even though you have selected not to load on startup. To me this is unacceptable. If you should think it's ok to remove the services it's loaded manually and restore them later , then think again .. you'll be re-installing your NAV 2005 again from scratch, due to it will b***h that there's a problem when you try to restore the settings back. I could give many more examples of NAV and it's time wasting ,resource taking experiences.. but lifes to short. I bought great hardware to get things I wanna get done , not sit in paranoia scanning for virii and chewing all the system resources just to do so. I feel the manufacturers of this product have over stepped their authority in releasing such a presumptous , obtrusive and non efficient bit of software. For every Positive someone corrects me on I will will give at least 2 negatives to their postive feedback about NAV 2005. I don't have a good thing to say about NAV , so I will stop now. Time to Try McAfee.....
  16. *SPLAT* <---- The sound as I smack my forehead for my stupidity Thank You FAT64 for the fast response.
  17. Hi, I've had a search through the Tweaks sections of the Unnatended forum and a fair search through the msfn forum overall ,but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Probly just haven't used the right keywords when I search. I'm looking for a way to remove or hide the "Turn Off Computer" button from the Start Menu without using 3rd party programs. Any help would be appreciated. TYIA
  18. Couldn't you just use your script/batch/cmd from windows task scheduler *shudder @ thought* to launch your reminder at a sheduled interval?
  19. Just add/edit your WINNT.SIF file [Data] AutoPartition = 1 [Unattended] Repartition = Yes Filesystem = NTFSGood Luck
  20. You have a bit of a typo in your line for Irfanview REG ADD %KEY5\040 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\Install\Irfan\Irfan3.97.exe /silent /desktop=1 /group=1 /allusers=1 /assoc=1" /fShould be %KEY%\ not %KEY5\ Would you let me know if the irfanview plugins work with the /silent switch , cause it didn't work for me with irfview_all_plugins.exe that I got from the irfanview web sight. I ended downloading the zip version and making a sfx archive out of it instead. Also a typo in REG ADD %KEY^\056 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\Install\netFramework\netframeworksp1.1.exe" /f Should be%KEY%\ not %KEY^\ Also wrong switch for Crimson Editor 3.70 REG ADD %KEY%\015 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\Install\CrimsonEditor\Crimson3.7.0.exe -s" /fShould be /S not -s (yes that's a capital "/S" ,the switch is case sensative ) I tested the Crimson Editor 3.70 = cedt370r.exe was the orig file name that I downloaded. You also might like to have a look at THIS thread , there's a handy tool for finding switches for any installer exe . Good Luck
  21. I made/used a shortcut.inf file to get my shortcuts to nero and many other programs to be where I want them. I run my shortcut.inf from RunOneEx After my apps install and before my cleanup.cmd runs. Maybe not the answer your looking for but have a read of THIS if you would like to know more about using a shortcut.inf to create not just nero shortcuts , but any type of shortcuts with your UA Install or use shortcut.exe to make your shortcuts (info on shortcut.exe also found at the above link). Goodluck
  22. Yes UA Application installs work on VMWare , for me anyways. I usely test my RunOnceEx.cmd in allready installed VMWare Windows before even adding it to my UAXPCD. Once I can see the entries are adding into runonceex in the registry correctlly , I actually reboot or just use the run command with "rundll32.exe iernonce.dll,RunOnceExProcess" in the Vmware Windows to see what proggies are gunna give me grief. If all goes well then I add it to my UAXPCD image and test it in VMWare , if all goes well burn and test it on a real PC (just a rat pc that doesn't matter if it goes wrong). About the only prob I get testing UA Applications in VMWare would be with Daemon Tools v3.47 due to adding a Virtual CDrom , windows throws up New Device wizard asking wether to use a default driver or search for another driver...doh It only happens in VMware and not when I actually use it in a real world install. Apart from that all my apps and proggies install UA fine in VMWare.
  23. Thank You and great work vcBlackBox for your NCAB. Worked a treat for me, all good. You might want to update the Readme in v2.01 to reflect it's v2.01. Or name your NCAB.rar with a version number. eg: NCAB201.rar. Only a suggestion , not a Demand ..lol Thank You once again and Cheers
  24. @nospek Reset5 doesn't activate your windows xp , it just resets the activation period so xp stays active. The thing that some ppl don't like about it is that it's run every boot of xp , another exe to load up on boot and consume memory (even though it's a very min amount of memory that's used). Not a very clean way to keep xp activated IMHO.
  25. @Gouki Have you tried.. 1)Starting with XP Gold (XP with no service packs) 2)Adding Service Pack 2 to your XP Gold with nLite (no tweaking or removing anything) or manually add it 3)Add RyanVM 1.2.1 updates via nLite (no tweaking or removing anything) or manually add it. 4)Using the original m$ WMP10install.exe with BsT slipstreamer then copying the slipstreamed wmp10 files from C:\I386 into your XPCD\I386 directory. 5)Adding the entry to the HIVEDEF that resides in XPCD\I386 directory 6)(optional)Adding the extracted files from No-WMP to your XPCD\I386 directory 7)Make ISO and test. Once you get that done and working then use nLite to take some bloat out. Maybe even add the MP3 functionality. The after touches can be added after you get it working.
