  1. Yep, unlock the taskbar, grab it by the grip and just pull it off the taskbar
  2. Now that I've finished college, I am starting to get back into Photoshop. Here is a userbar for WMP11 I just made: With Lighting Effects: I will update this post with more vista themed graphics HougTimo
  3. I have a spare 80gb drive, then use acronis true image to pack all my data up onto it (including the os). a full reformatt is never more then 4mins and 32secs away
  4. Look in taskmanager. obviously something is using 100% cpu. find out what it is, then tell us and we may be able to help you rectify your problem. @Andromeda43 : stop talking a load of bull crap. Celerons are quite able enough to even run vista. (I know ... I have one here) HougTimo
  5. Maybe someone has tried overclocking and its gone a little bit wrong? I'm not pointing fingers, but it just seems a lil suspicious. I would reset you BIOS to defaults and see if that helps.
  6. I learned this now functionality is more important. BTW it was your 2k classic enhanced I was able to get this comitt in, When I put it on mine The lowest I got was 31 mb in comitt. A lot of it is to do with drivers. In VMware I can get XP down to 25mb comitt, but on real hardware the minimum is around 37mb, just because of my drivers. It varies from system to system.
  7. Yeah, that was the first thing I tried, but I can still see it, it does make a difference but it does not remedy them problem.
  8. This is what I mean. No one else can see it, but it drives me mad! I am at college at the moment on a CRT and there is a ver definate flicker. But out of 14 people in the room only 2 of us cans see it. My mum also has this problem, and she gets bad migranes too.
  9. 64'C for CPU seems waaaay too hot - don't let it go above 40'C. You might want to check that the heatsink isn't filled up with dust and starving the CPU of air (that happened too me). If not, get a beefier heatsink and fan. Also, Check the thermal paste.
  10. nLite provides a good lot of tweaks for security - just as many as safe XP IMO
  11. Hi, Something I have always been able to see on CRT monitors is a very obvious flicker. I have used a lot of different monitors, ranging from old ones too brand new high performance screen. I also see this flicker on most TVs. A lot of people have insisted with me that if there is any flicker at all on any CRT monitor there is something wrong with it, however i am unable to see how all the CRTs I have used can be faulty. I do get migranes and head aches very easily from CRTs / TVs and can't work constantly for over about half an hour on one. I also get migranes from strobe lights or very bright lights. Maybe I can see a flicker that isn't obvious to other people? Does anybody else here see a flicker on CRT monitors or TVs? I don't get this problem at all with LCD / TFTs THanks HougTimo
  12. Has anoyone noticed that apps seem to load a lot quicker in Vista than in XP? It is especially noticable with apps such as firefox / photoshop etc... Is this to do with superfetching?? Thanks HougTimo
  13. Yes I doubt that services have a lot to do with speed, but some people seem to be obsessive. I've been trying to tell Jdurall (aka dirtwarrior) for ages that committ isnt everything. Oh well....
  14. Hi, I have built a few computers over the last few months. But what I want to know, is there a correct way to wire all the components up. I mean, I have no trouble getting everything plugged in and stuff, I just want to know if it is ok if it looks messy or whether there is a certain way to do it. Thanks HougTimo
  15. Thank you. That was all the information I was after with this thread.
  16. Heh, coincidence ... I do that for a living too. I am all too familiar with the various methods in squeezing speed out of CPUs, oh and on the heat issue my temps never go above 34' Celsius even under 24 hours of Prime95. I just enjoy the challenge of an overclock, its exciting.
  17. some of us need LCDs though. I personally get migranes from CRTs because of the flickering even at high refresh rates.
  18. Ok, thanks. I am aware of the risks of overclocking, and it does infact create a very noticable speed increase. Not overclocking it is boring I have overclocked many many CPUs in my time and the only ones that have failed are intels I will be getting a 600w psu later today i think
  19. EDIT :: That site say i should have a 307w PSU min, so in theory mine seems ok...... Maybe its just getting old, tis about 3yrs old anyway. Yep, does it at clock speed too
  20. Hi, After my big upgrade, I am sometimes getting an error from the bios on startup. It is always on cold starts when it has been disconnected from the main overnight. If iplug it in and immediately turn on i get the error 'CPU test Failed' and it wont boot up. If I turn it off again and wait 5 mins (or wait 5 mins after initially plugging it in) it boots fine with no probs at all. Also sometimes I get 'Overclock Failed' (warm start) and it refuses to boot, but if i turn off and on again it is fine. Once its running it runs beautifully with no probs at all. My Specs: Athlon 64 3200+ (OC'd to 3700+) Asus A8N Deluxe (wireless) mobo 1GB Dual Channel RAM 300GB Maxtor SATA HDD 80GB Hitachi IDE ATI Radeon 9550 AGP Now my PSU is only 330w, do you think it is a PSU problem? and if i were to get a 600+w PSU would that be better? Thanks HougTimo
  21. Yeah, i think i will give it another go when i get home - BTW my system is water cooled, just for those wandering. cooling alone cost best part of £150 anyway, ill let you know how i do! HougTimo
  22. No, 40'C is under load (after running the CPU stress software for about 4 hours). I have never had this PC ever go over 35'C before, especially with the cooling system i have in it.
  23. Yes, ran several cpu-stress tests over 24 hours. max temp was 39'C and rock solid.
  24. Thanks - it will go further, but if i goto 2.6Ghz it hits the upper end of 39'C So, I'll, justs tick with it where it is i think
