  1. Hi, I recently OC'd my Athlon64 3200+ from 2.0GHz to 2.5GHz. Now what I want to know is : What AMD model is the 2.5GHz rating equal to? thanks HougTimo
  2. Last night I finally installed 10.4.5 myzar release, and it all seems to run pretty well. Just a couple of problems: Recognises my CPU as "3.6GHz" thinks my Radeon 9550 128 mb is a radeon 9600pro 64mb i am locked into 1024x768 res onboard wireless doesnt work I am working to stop these issues though. 3. It is very nice indeed. Although I feel that the bevel / emboss you have given to the windows flag makes it look heavy and bulky. Also the lower text could do with the satin removing, just to make it more readable and clean looking. Apart from those little issues, very good work! keep it up! EDIT :: also move the shadow on the 'Windows media player 11 beta" text a bit closer to the text, as it makes it a little hard to read. HougTimo
  4. when you get a cmd prompt, navigate to your system32 directory and type "regedit.exe"
  5. I was bored this morning, so decided to refresh my photoshop skills with this graphic. I did everything myself from scratch, including the dock and taskbar. The only things I used were the Icons for the dock and the background. Props to my good friend Alien555 for those Well, I hope you like it, took me about 40mins to complete. HougTimo
  6. it was a pheenet one. i splashed out and bought a new one tho, and it works much better
  7. Ahh, I am downloading a 4.37GB file via Bittorrent - do you think it could be that?
  8. Hi, Over the last couple of days, our home router keeps disconnecting. all the lights stay on as if everything is fine, but non of the computers are able to connect to the router, for example when pinging the router it will simply time out. We have 3 wireless PCs and 3 cable-connected PCs ... I get the same problem on all of them. If turn the router off for 10 seconds then turn it on again everything is fine, for a while anyway but then cuts out again. I did check (i knew i couldnt have been anything to do with them) with my ISP and there are no probs at their end. I have upgraded firmware on the router, and completely reset the whole system ... but it still does it. Is it a new router, or can it be fixed? HougTimo BTW : It is a Pheenet router, but i think it is based on a Linksys model, but I'm not sure.
  9. It is a brand new install and there is no AV / firewall running in the BG. The hard drive is also brand new, with no bad sectors etc... so everything is looking good ... looks like im gonna have to put up with the activity.
  10. so what is nLite? it's a 3rd party solution. sorry Nuhi. If you don't want 3rd party solutions you should just download every hotfix and integrate them according to Microsoft's supported methods. You will find I said ANYMORE implying I had already used 1 Third Party Application. I do not want to use anymore because I have heard of great problems with compatibility between two third party apps. So please do not get on your high horse, read my posts properly first. Thank you.
  11. You can pick up a fully packaged 2000 kit of ebay for sure
  12. Hi, I am trying to reduce the amount of hard drive activity I have while running windows. I have found that nLiting helps a lot, but I still get a lot of hard drive noise I have no page file, so it isnt paging anything, and sometimes i get random bursts when the computer is idling, doing nothing. I have all unnessesary services disabled (running on 7) and I regularly clean out all junk files and cleanout and defrag my registry. I also have a completely defragged hard drive - In total i have used 978mb with windows and all my programs, so it is fairly slim too. Does anybody have any ideas on how to reduce the amount of hard drive activity? Thanks HougTimo
  13. I do not want to use anymore 3rd party stuff, I will be directly integrating them with nLite. I suppose I could do two installs, one with and one without updates and try them out in a VM?
  14. Hi, Tonight I am re-doing my UA XP CD. My source is XP with SP2 (came from MS with SP2 already in). Should I download all the updates to date and slipstream them? Sercurity is NO concern I am interesed purely in speed and performance and also the size of my iso. Will is be slower if i integrate all the hotfixes, or if I don't? Thanks HougTimo
  15. This is exactly the problem! He does know what he is doing, and it is his PC, therefore he thinks he can do what ever he wants with it! ROFL
  16. Hi, I have a problem, in that I use my dad's pc occasionally and I have my own account on it. I went to log on the other day, and my account had been disabled. So from the welcome screen I have to CTRL+ALT+DEL and log on as administrator and re set my account. There are also all sorts of group policy settings which place quite heavy restrictions on my account. I am fed u of having to re-create my account everytime I want to use the computer, as when my Dad finds out i have disabled what he has done, he re-does it all. I'm thinking he has got his hands on a reg file to do this for him, however I can't find it anywhere on the PC. What I really need to do is disable his access to the registry - I have disabled acces for him to open regedit, but he can still merge registry files - is there a way I can stop him doing this? Thanks HougTimo
  17. Hi, I discovered microsoft's "User Profile Hive Cleanup Service" the other day, and it does seem to make quite a big difference when logging off / shutting down my machine. Are there any other microsoft tools like this that improve system performance? Thanks HougTimo
  18. I thought that theme was now illegal to use, due to a restriction placed on it by microsoft?
  19. I already defrag my registry with tuneup utilities 2006
  20. Hi, I know the basics about the registry and what it does, I can also edit certain parts of the registry that I am comfortable with (most speed tweaks and the such like). What I want to know, is : Does having a big registry slow you computer down? Also what is considered to be a large registry? Currently my registry is 16,809k (nearly 17mb), my system is nLited and I have about 15 applications installed. Is my registry too big? are there any ways of making it smaller? is there any excess stuff in there i can get rid of? If i do slim it down, will i notice a speed increase in my PC at all? Thanks HougTimo Title edited -- Please, use [TAGS] in your topic's title. --Sonic
  21. Hi, I am thinking of going back to server 2003 as my main desktop OS. I have a couple of things to ask though. I know it is a lot more stable than XP, but should it be quicker too? I will have it heavily nLited, only keeping the components I know i will need. The sorts of applications I use are: Adobe Photoshop / Imageready Autocad 2006 Sketchup (Corp, not the free one) Microsoft Office / Openffice Random Web Browser MSN WMP 10 MS Virtual PC nLite etc... Also, I have been using Acronis Trueimage with XP, now I understand that to use it on a server os i would need to buy the corporate version, however I am reluctant to buy it as it is expensive and I have only just bought the client version. I don't think that I could justify buying the server version just for my main desktop pc. I have two questions about this: 1) Is there a way to make it run on 2k3? 2) If i used TweakNT to convert it to a Workstation Version, would that work? Would it make the OS unstable if i used TweakNT, or break anything? Thanks HougTimo
  22. Yes, I only have 9 total processes running at startup, and no programs loading at startup. Bootvis only seemed to make it take a little longer. Its no biggie, just a bit annoying, but as you say, it might be motherboard drivers etc....
  23. WolfX2: It was not long ago you produced your first work here, the Vista graphic which I cleaned up for you ... since then you have come on in leaps and bounds with your graphic work, your newer works are very very good I am so glad you have been able to get on with PS and start producing excellent graphics. Keep it up mate, your work is a credit to MSFN
  24. Added another one to the first post
  25. Hiya Everyone! I was a bit bored this morning, so I decided to make myself a new avatar! I've tried to keep it simple and clean, but still looking good.
