  1. Hi, I am thinking of selling my PC and moving to intel. I really want to know whats available from Intel in the dual core stakes. It musta also be 64 bit. Also, I would like to know what people think my current system is worth. My current specs: Athlon64 3200+ (939) Asus A8V Deluxe WiFi Mobo 1.5GB DDR400 RAM ATI Radeon 9550 128mb (AGP) 16x Benq DVD Writer 20GB Seagate IDE HDD 550w PSU I am very interested in overclocking, and want a good mobo / cpu for that, and as i stated i would like dual core and 64-bit. I would have what my PC is worth plus £100 to spend on it. Thanks HougTimo
  2. Yes indeed. took it back to the supplier today. Looks like it was hit by a power surge. The mobo, hard drive and vid card have all been knocked out. Even though it was plugged into a surge protector and had an nbuilt one in the psu. anywhoo, its all being covered by warranty
  3. I've tried different hard drive, still didnt work. So you reckon its the mobo?
  4. Hi, my Mum's A64 system is refusing to boot up this morning. Basically, I turn it on, and it detects the CPU and hangs. I can't get into the BIOS and non the the keys (numlock / caps) work. I have tested the RAM, Hard Drive etc... I am thinking it might be the PSU? I am not sure of the Motherboard, but it uses an ATI xpress chipset (fairly sure its an MSI board), athlon64 3200+, 600w PSU, 160gb Maxtor SATA. Hope someone can help! HougTimo
  5. Yes, you just get a discount if you're a student in the UK
  6. Nah, both drives are over a year old, and the manufacturers wouldn't refund me. (The hitachi is about 2 yrs old). I am now running my computer from a Linux Live CD for the foreseeable future!
  7. Just 4 days after my 300GB sata drive (Maxtor) burst into flames at 3am, my (now) main drive an 80gb Hitachi Deskstar seems to be going west. I tried to re-install windows after Flyakite osx rubbished it, and after the first re-boot it gave me the error "Operating System not Found". So I rebooted and tried again. But now it won't get past where it detects the hard drives. It seems to recognise it and gives it it's correct name but refuses to procede any further. I put the drive in my mums system just to see if it would work there, and it does. flawlessly. So, I thought it might be the motherboard but I tried numerous other IDE drives in it and they work perfectly. I really can't solve this one. Steps I've done so far: Tried it in another machine - successful Tried another hard drive in my machine - successful Flashed my bios - successful, but made no difference Formatted the drive using my mum's pc - successful, but still didn't work in my machine Run chkdsk on the drive - No errors at all Search for physical errors - No errors. If anyone can give any tips on this. i would be most greatful. I'm not worried about saving any of the data that was on the drive, so i'll pretty much try anything lol. The drive makes no funny noises and runs nice and queitly. I really hope someone can help! Disk : Hitachi Deskstar IDE 80GB (about 2 yrs old) Mobo : Asus a8v Deluxe THanks HougTimo
  8. Had prime95 running for 24hours to test. No problems and the temps never exceeded 45'c. Is it still bad?
  9. My mobo is an Asus A8V Deluxe board, and I can't seem to OC without doing drastic things to the voltage, also there is no agp lock either, so anything above 2.6GHz shows artifacts
  10. The voltage is actually lying...in the bios it is 1.625v, so im not sure how much higher i can go...
  11. It's just on air - the upgraded hsf cost me about £9 (from akasa) and I'm using Arctic Silver 5 paste and two 80mm case fans
  12. Hi, I would just like an opinion on how good my OC is. The processor is an athlon 64 3200+ (venice s939) that runs at a stock 2.0GHz. Here is it running at 2.6GHz, and appears to beat some FX processors according to Sandra: Thanks for your views HougTimo
  13. Now seems to be peaking at 48/49'C and gets as low as 33'c at idle. looks like the magic paste is working!
  14. Thanks for the comments, i thought that might have been the case. The case temp never goes above 29'C, (and its very hot weather here atm) so in theory it should come down a little bit i think. I'll see what happens
  15. Right, here are my machine specs: Processor: Athlon 64 3200+ Overclock: 2550Mhz FSB: 255 Voltage: 1.550v CPU Fan: Big Orange Akasa HSF Combo Thermal Paste: Newly applied AS5 +2 80mm exhaust fans. Now what I want to know is, my temps before I applied the AS5 are about the same as they are now after I have applied it. Is there a 'bedding in' period for the AS5 and how long does it take for it to work properly? Current Temps: CPU Idle: 38'c CPU Load: 50'c after 6 minutes of running CPU Stability Test Are these temps ok and will they come down a bit after the AS5 has had it's bedding in period? Also, this is all measured on Windows Vista build 5472, sing Everest Home Edition. Thanks HougTimo
  16. Hi, Now that the hot weather has set in, my CPU is reaching ~40'c, so I'm looking for another cooling solution. Currently, I have a big Akasa cpu fan and thats about it. So, I'm looking for two standard exhaust fans, which must be silent(ish) as the noise is already quite loud lol. BTW : Its for a 939 a64 system. If anyone knows where to get them please let me know ... btw im in the uk. Thanks HougTimo
  17. Finally found some beta drivers from ASUS. At first, no luck. And then I had a great idea.... STOP OVERCLOCKING! I feel such a prat now LoL HougTimo All is well with both my hard drives
  18. Hi, I managed to hose my Win32 installation, so decided to give X64 a try. Here is a lit of problems I have encountered: PC won't boot from CD without a sata drive being present...even though my IDE was attached No version of Windows will install to my IDE drive (This is a new problem) Couldn't delete a partition on my SATA drive (sorted now) Server2k3 Won't install due to lack of drivers.[/b[ This is my main problem. I have my SATA drive plugged in to the onboard sata thingy on my motherboard (which just happens to be a Asus A8V deluxe). I have tried every 64-bit driver going (non available from ASUS) and non of them work. The majority will see the hard drive, but then when i select it, the Server2k3 install just hangs. No impressed. This is a 64-bit board, so I assume it is meant to run 64-bit windows, and there are 64-bit drivers for every onboard item, apart from SATA!? If anyone who has this board or any info point me in the right direction for the drivers? Thanks HougTimo
  19. Hi, I have just purchased an ECS KV2 939 mobo. The full spec list can be found here: http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWeb/Products/Prod...=90&LanID=9 In total (inc p&p) it cost me £29.99 Did I get a good deal on this, and are ECS board good? I have never heard of them, do they have any *special* areas or things that they do well (e.g. overclocking etc...)? Thanks HougTimo
  20. you can't its the whole point. I do belive Bio Head was trying to make a point. ... Which IMO he did very successfully
  21. Hehe, you best watch out! kidding lol. Doing a couple of OS X themed things too now
