I think it's not a good idea to have included Movie Maker in your pack. Also what are those internet games in the msg folder ?

There are actually a few free tools to recover lost files : DataRecovery : http://tokiwa.tomato.ne.jp/EN/dr.html Drive Rescue : http://www.woundedmoon.org/win32/driverescue19d.html Be aware that when you lose a file and want to recover it, you should cease using your disk immediately if it's on the system drive as to avoid to overwrite the lost data. Also don't install those tools on the drive you want to recover the data from for the same reason. Good luck.

You never delete any file then ? The Recycle Bin is a shell namespace extension that I am not sure can be removed entirely. It is apparently handled at various levels by Shell32.dll. It's icon on the Desktop is easy to remove though by removing it's GUID value from the Desktop namespace key in the registry. It's CLSID can also be deleted but this has only the effect of making the contents of the recycled folders accessible normally by explorer. Certainly you could remove the "Delete" entry from context menu by reshacking Shell32.dll and manually install a file shredder on the context menu of "*" and "Directory" to do away with the Recycle Bin if you wanted to.

MIME has got to see with Internet Explorer and how it handles the display of various file types to the best of my knowledge. In fact it seems it is somehow for IE what filetypes associations are for Windows. There are MIME handlers which are dlls and that are defined in the registry. For example, when you install Quicktime, it asks you which MIME types you want it to handle in IE. In the registry, it seems to be articulated around the Content Type and EditFlags values of the relevant CLASSES subkeys and HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type as well as the CLSIDs the latter key eventually points to. Maybe there are also other keys.

There should be a button on your toolbar to toggle the tree view pane. Does it also do not work ?
-
It's the "Insert" key. It toggles that behaviour on or off. Above the "Delete" key on my keyboard.

You normally can't use all the disk space even with partitioning. Beware.

No, it is not. Please write shorter posts with more information. You repeat again and again that cumulative updates are not cumulative but you never gave me any example although I have asked for it. LOL, I was about to write exactly that. I don't understand why Clasys does not open a specific thread to discuss that, as I suggested to him sometimes ago. As for the topic of this thread : What is the situation of W95 critical updates today ? It should pretty say what the situation of W98 will be after June 30.

I use RegSeeker : http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm

The Ultimate Boot CD is not a floppy but it is filled with boot floppy images with plenty of different tools.

There are several softs that are removing vocals. Google for "vocal remover". You should find them all. They don't perform miracles though but sometimes they can do a nice job. Look around for karaoke software as well. Also there are a few VST effects plugins aiming at doing that. Can't say which ones at the moment.

I think I've read somewhere that a dll packed with UPX gets mapped in memory as many times as it is in use by processes whereas an unpacked one is only mapped once no matter how many processes are using it. I don't know if it is true. If it is, packed system dlls will use much more RAM than unpacked ones.

I simply use Cool Mouse 97 to hook the middle mouse button. It launches a menu application on which I have a Batchrun script who kills all my tray tasks and restarts them after restarting explorer so that when I recover explorer I also recover all my tray icons.

If it's an ACM codec and that you can save to wav with your encoder then you must choose wav for the the audio and should look (if it does pop) for the "Choose Wav format" standard dialog allowing you to choose codec and setting.

That is a very powerfull specialized registry editor designed for dealing with the context menu items : http://www.xs4all.nl/~wstudios/Associate/ Types Popup Free is more immediately user friendly but less powerfull than Wassociate. Still I find it better than the built-in windows tool : http://www.gold-software.com/TypesPopupFree-review13751.htm

Does it not also install D3DX9_24.DLL from February 2005 edition ? They are actually Direct3D helpers needed for some recent games and apps and they should work under 9x which is why they are installed probably. So far they weren't officially freely redistributable though they were people redistributing them without the SDK as they were absolutely needed for some games. See here for example : http://www.toymaker.info/Games/html/d3dx_dlls.html The managed DirectX component is in Dec2005_MDX1_x86.cab and Dec2005_MDX1_x86_Archive.cab I think. I don't think it does install on 9x. I haven't checked it out. Also xinput.dll, an Xbox 360 Controller, does not install apparently. That's in Oct2005_xinput_x86.cab.

There are some new files that get installed, D3DX9 files, as said above. The core DX runtime appears to be exactly the same as the previous release. DirectX.cab is bigger but it's just plenty of png images and maybe some other junk. It does install without probs on 98SE without tweaking anything to the installer as I have just tried in a virtual machine. PS : Latest release of Media Player Classic comes bundled with one of those D3DX9 files I think.
-
I have just briefly tried to install it on 98SE in a virtual machine. It does install without problems. 98 and 98SE just aren't supported anymore I think. Files are essentially the same as the previous DX9.0c it would appear. D3DX9 files are added and also some junk such as png images of input devices.

Win98SE being phased out by MS I would think. Isn't it the same for the IE updates ?

ArtCursors is also a good choice. http://www.aha-soft.com/artcursors/index.htm

Succesfully tested here on WinMe with the 28 new ME hotfixes posted by MDGx. Even though one of the installers partially failed because of a missing target file (Q297958 and its filelist.xml from SFP that is removed from my system (It also fails when run on its own)) and I had to click on a dialog to carry on with the install, all the other ones went well. Nice job.
-
You should also recommend a codec.
-
There is nothing more easy than that. On Win98/ME : Right Click on the Taskbar, choose Properties and then tick "Show small icons in Start Menu".For Win XP, see here : http://www.viewz.com/computingtips/computingtip43.shtml

Q891711 + U891711 = Unofficial MS07-017 + MS05-002 .ANI fix

Can someone please explain what exactly the vulnerability is ? As clicking on any of the flashsky links with IE 5.5SP2 on WinME and without a patch running does not make me feel vulnerable to anything, really. If clicking on one of the link would, say, launch Notepad, I'd be scared. -
Though your question is way too generic, I'd suggest RV10 as output format and Easy Real Media Producer as a conversion utility. Doom9 forums is also a good place for that type of question.
