  1. It's not a shellex but you might like this one as well : http://www.slavasoft.com/hashcalc/index.htm Good for the SendTo folder And also http://www.slavasoft.com/fsum/index.htm
  2. You can try and see whether it's this or not the problem. I would somehow guess it's not as I have read your post better and it's the installer that fails so that you can't even reinstall Pyro. Pyro does not work normally, Pyro installer does not work normally and there is a fix for it but you can't use it as your system does not recognize the CD in the drive ? Can you read other CDs ? And how did you try to reinstall when you got your msvcr71.dll messages ? From the CD or not from the CD ?
  3. Have you solved your problem or not ?
  4. Have you ever given a go to Antivir ?
  5. Msvcr71.dll is a file written by Microsoft that several application may need to actually work. It's what is called a runtime. Your OS does not need it but some applications written with MS developement tools do, and this file can be installed along with many software you install. Just like the VB runtimes if you've ever heard about that. You'll find that file in your system folder (c:\windows\system) most probably but maybe also in your Pyro folder. So go with windows explorer in both places and look if you find this file. You can also use the windows search facilty to locate any other possible occurence of this file on your computer. When you have found it, right click on it and choose properties. There will be a tab with the version number. We're not sure but maybe that's the cause of your problem. Pyro makes use of a version of msvcr71.dll that it is not compatible with its operation for some reason.
  6. On top of itself is the first choice as it most likely won't screw your third party software installation. Then if this doesn't work, it does not always do, then yes. The problem with you is that you don't give many details so you cannot be helped properly. I have just read your last post. It's a problem in msvcr71.dll Try another version of this file. That's where the problem is apparently. I only know of two versions 7.10.3052.4 and 8.0.21213.0 Which one is yours ?
  7. Get WAssociate. You can do that quick and fast with this excellent program. Or just use the windows filetypes applet. http://www.xs4all.nl/~wstudios/Associate/ Install it and then put a shortcut to it in the sendto folder. Send to it the filetypes you want to change and just use the browse button to choose a new app. It is foolproof as there are multiple undo levels. You can also easily save to registry file its panes. To do so just copy the top key in the upper pane and paste into a text editor. Repeat with the lower pane and eventually with the Clsids you can jump to if any, and then save all that as a reg file. Only quick way I know to backup any filetype associations on the fly.
  8. I don't think there should be a problem. Those upgrade CDs are full installs so you can install them (I think) even if your drive is empty but what you need is the qualifying product on CD or floppy and the 98FE CD won't do in your case but I believe this does not mean you cannot install on top of 98FE.
  9. Maybe you must reinstall your OS. We haven't fared further than Cakewalk support..
  10. That's where all your problems come from obviously. What happened to the computer last week ? What were the error messages unrelated to ? Or do you mean the problem happened after the problem with Pyro ? Anyway reinstalling windows on top of itself should solve your problem I would believe. Before doing that you may want to try to install Gape's Unofficial service pack for Win98SE. It could possibly sort you out.
  11. Apparently Pyro has got a problem with accessing properly the filesystem. It says it can't read or write files. Maybe a dependency problem or a filesytem driver problem. Did you install anything recently ?
  12. I think you should explain your problem more precisely. Why do you mean by : Can you explain more what goes on ? If you don't explain better you won't get any better answer than what Cakewalk support gave you. Especially that they know the app you are speaking about and we don't.
  13. KGB doesn't support 9x like more and more apps now. Not too many fortunately.
  14. Trying is knowing.
  15. Aha, I have always used Beta 10 to remove PC Health, never to reinstall it. Doesn'it work ? You can simply reinstall WinME on top of itself. It should reinstall PC Health and also all the other components that can be removed with Beta10 or System Restore Remover. Why do you need PC Health really ? It is pretty much useless IMO. Well, maybe not everyone agrees with that.
  16. Well you can obtain that type of compression ratio with 7-Zip already. 101 Meg down to 245 kb. No joke. The trick is solid archive mode and a large number of very similar files, in this case, 1860 Filter Factory plugins for Photoshop compatible applications. This said, it is claimed that KGB is slightly more performant than 7-Zip but I haven't tried it as it only runs on 2000/XP/2003.
  17. I haven't got a clue. You've got no problems with other programs, doing other things ? Or maybe it's just that the new bitmaps are not of the same color depth than the originals. But even doing that I can't remember I ever had such a problem. I did try to replace 16 color ones with 256 color ones in some files but it did not crash when doing it.
  18. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1894576,00.asp
  19. I didn't know the first one, thanks.
  20. eXescope allows for editing 16 bits modules (user.exe etc...). I've never had any problem for replacing bitmaps with Reshacker.
  21. It depends, it can be from extremely easy to extremely difficult depending on the apps.
  22. Well yes it sort of "hangs" at 40/50% but when you consider it defragments a moderately fragmented 20 GB system partition with 10 GB of data on it in just 15/20 minutes while you carry on working as normal with your system without any need to reboot to defragment in safe mode, etc... Just remain happy with that. Whatever else you're going to install will cost you both money and time and will certainly offer you only a marginal improvement over what you already have won with Diskeeper Lite over the built-in Windows tool. Now if you've got time and money to spend for that, you can head to the software section of this forum and have a look a the "Which is the best defragmenter" stickie.
  23. I use either InstallWatch, but that's the same engine as InstallRite or Regshot + Syslog or Fingerprint. InstallWatch uses some of the MS DAO 350 database runtime. Without them it won't fully work. I don't know how you install it on Linux. If you just copy your InstallRite Folder from Windows to Linux, You won't have the DAO files and hence it won't fully work. You can try to simply copy the following files into Install Rite Folder (They are not all needed but I don't know now which ones are compulsory) : dao2535.tlb Dao350.dll Msjet35.dll Msjint35.dll Msjter35.dll Vbar332.dll Vbajet32.dll Msrd2x35.dll If Wine supports COM, you've got a chance it will work.
  24. RegSeeker does break the windows setup applet functionality on WinME. That's the line to add to the exclude.ini file to prevent it from happening : 2|SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\VarLDID Best "automatic" registry cleaner IMO.
