  1. Feature-wise, Vista was complete in 5308 - February.
  2. Can you try phone activation?
  3. I reinstall because I don't really know any good free imaging software and lack the experience in it. I don't use unattended because I've not got round to making a disc yet, and I also use Vista.
  4. Same - looks like a fault in the build. Remember to file a bug report for it.
  5. Perhaps the drive isn't installed properly or the drivers aren't Vista compatible. If possible try and use one of the newer builds (54**) as they support hardware better imo.
  6. Phones won't (or shouldn't!) bother thumb drives. They would affect older media as the electromagnetic waves would distort the magnetic data patterns. I don't think wifi would bother "analogue media" as the part of the spectrum they use doesn't interfere magnetically.
  7. Those specs 6 months ago made the PS3 look good. But now, it frankly looks crap. OK so it can produce better graphics than the 360, but the 360 has 9.6GHz to power everything else whereas the PS3 has the 3.2GHz "Cell". I know which one I'd go for, and so will the modding community.
  8. What is 7 gig nowadays though? I really don't care how big the footprint is - its the services that matter. ATM: My current Vista uptime has been just over 9 hours with moderate usage. Its current ram usage is ~560mb, just over 50%. Although it looks a lot, that still means theres another 500mb waiting. Looking at it that way, it isn't bad for a Beta OS.
  9. Wait till you get it talking to Windows Vista!
  10. Yes it does, it's just that Microsoft has now closed the public beta programme.
  11. Its never crashed on me yet. Initially its slow, but once you've run it once or twice it's fine.
  12. I don't think it runs as quick as 5456, but it is alot more compatible hardware wise. Also, it can connect to ANY region Xbox 360 now rather than just Region 1 (NTSC), which is why I use is mainly.
  13. It IS X:\Users Documents and Settings is no longer used
  14. Defender is already included and alot of Media enhancements are which are equivelant to Plus!. Paint.NET might be a possibility, but not yet since its not a Microsoft programme (just yet!). Office and VS look unlikely since MS sell them as seperate products.
  15. I get it Vista direct from Microsoft because I'm a tester so its the full version that will expire on 1st June 2007. The only other way people get it is illegally which only allow you to get 14 days usage before it kills itself (since you don't have a product key you cannot activate).
  16. I can honestly say it runs really well on my laptop. Specs in my sig. I've definately noticed its getting quick enough to possibly use as A main OS (not THE main OS just yet though!).
  17. He installed Vista first on C:\ then went and installed XP AFTERWARDS on D: so he lost the Vista bootloader. I haven't tried it, but on earlier discs, if you booted from DVD and went to advanced recovery options, you could chose automatically repair my installation. It could tell straight away that I had lost the bootloader and replaced it, whilst still being able to boot into XP too. For future reference: Because Vista is NEWER, always install vista AFTER you install XP, 2k3 etc.
  18. You cannot disable the dedicated ram anyway. Listen to people - Vista will not run on your laptop anyway.
  19. Its 5472 actually* GSM: What are the usual problems you have?
  20. Erm.. that just won't happen. The only thing in there that I think is already in Ultimate is Plus! - which is really just Digital Media Enhancements. All the other programs are different products and if Microsoft includes them it will probably be classed as an abusement of their monopoly. As for the games.... thats just one big no. If you want to play Halo - buy an xbox.
  21. What build have you been testing? Beta 2 is not that good a build for overall compatibility so that may be why you had a bad experience. If possible, try and use build 5456 which I find to be a better build overall (and IMHO should have been B2).
  22. It's not worth it at all with just 256mb ram. Get it upto at least 512 (pref 1gb) and you might just get a good experience.
  23. What exactly are the problems you've got with Vista. And like you say - THIS IS TEST SOFTWARE! We're not even in release candidate stage yet so of course there will be compatibity issues!
  24. It wll have installed, otherwise you wouldn't be able to load Vista. Either it's not detected your XP install (Maybe because its a FAT32 disk?) or you've overwritten some files on your XP partition. What I would do is use the recovery console and use "fixboot" and "fixmbr" to get back into XP, then reinstall Vista.
  25. Try reinstalling WMP, or try WMP11 Beta
