Yeah, the NT Logon!!! Thats brilliant.
  2. MSDN (Microsoft Developer Network). The subscription costs around $1500.
  3. You have to subscribe to MSDN to get it. I think it is around $1500 for the full MSDN subsciption, and I'm not sure whether the "operating systems" pack even includes vista (about $600). You can download it from other places but you'll have to find that out for yourself as it is considered Warez!!
  4. Your welcome egrath. It wasn't that hard to do though (unless you don't have it!). It's really like the XP and 2k3 classic look, but the start menu also has the feature of vista standard. It doesn't open a popup bar, it stays within the start menu itself.
  5. The standard Vista Theme Vs. Classic Windows Standard Vista Classic Vista Sorry about the size of them, but they were straight screenies.
  6. I'm a P3
  7. This isn't the new and improved UI we are to expect. Our first tester of that is in Beta 2.
  8. @mitchellovision I am not sure on my exact graphics chip as it isn't displayed in my device manager, but if you want to look on the internet the laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4320. It was designed fore Windows 2000 so it is pretty old.
  9. Thanks a lot Ronin, I didn't realise I could do that. Well, thats my Vista 100% running now I got a new network card.
  10. Althought I had problems installing (Solved by copying XP\system drivers onto vista\system) most other stuff work like a charm. OK, so my lan card is not being accepted and no sound, but the lightening speed of vista easily makes up for it. I'm running a P3 600mhz for sake, so don't blame your CPU! and hardware limited to 320mb ram. It runs without a hitch!
  11. Only thing was I used a DVD. But at least it solved my problems:D
  12. Hey, it runs fine on my P3 600mhz. And not slow either, about same speed as xp, no Bull!
  13. Yeah. It says it's installed but after a reboot it still comes up with the Found New Hardware wizard and it still can't find any drivers.
  14. Hi guys, After a rocky installations of Vista, it's not crashed once (new record) but there is no sound at all. However, there is a download available from the Yamaha site for XP and I thought it would be my best bet. However it is in EXE format and it isn't working. Is there anyway I can decompile it and just extract the actual drivers itself? Thanks in advance.
  15. I managed to get it installed but it was the most perculiar way how I did it! I booted back up into XP and within there I copied all the files from D:\Windows\System (My XP partition) into C:\Windows\System (Vista). I rebooted my pc and it went straight into the installations final steps and was done within the hour. I didn't get the driver error so it must have been the vista drivers not being compatible.
  16. I have exactly the same problem. I've tried disabling cacheing in the BIOS and it gets further than what it usually does, but then it just spits out the same error. I use an IDE drive in a laptop. Theres two partitions, one XP and the other hopefully vista.
  17. I didn't know 5060 existed? Are you using it?
  18. I personnaly would call it new, even though I know its a graphically rediesigned version of 2000. Do you know what I mean. However I would call 2000 an upgrade to NT4, not a new OS. Same with 95-98. Just an upgrade.
  19. Yeah, we all know what its like. I kinda like it anyway. But is it really a new operating system or is it just a new/revamped operating system to keep us happy until Blackcomb?
  20. I was browsing through the web (like you usually do) and came across the info for all the windows codenames. It was all the usual Chicago, Detroit, Whistler etc and then it came to Longhorn: Windows XP 2nd edition. And then above Longhorn was Blackcomb: Successor to XP. Does anyone have some more info on this, and especially what Blackcomb is? Source: http://www.bitzenbytes.com/Content-Arcanum-18-1-61.html
  21. I don't think that the alpha builds (4074 and 5048) are actually too bad. Sure, they take their time to load on my old P3 and there isn't any sound as of yet, but it hasn't actually crashed on me yet (touch wood). It's pretty stable and reliable. Like I say, still have the sound issue but other than that I like it. Is the Beta 1 still due this month? Only a few days left so I really doubt it now
  22. I don't think it's even worth trying to put XP on a ps2. 133mhz is the worst current gen console around, the xbox still only has a measly 733mhz. Anyway, all you need is a copy of XP (mce) that will run/install on linux. But if it fails there are some specially modified linux versions that are for the xbox.
  23. I was planning on using 2k3 as a basis for longhorn and install lh on top of it. My main OS is XP whcih works fine, however after installing 2k3 I don't have the option to select which OS i want to use. Any solutions to this please?
  24. I have a USB adaptor by belkin and it installed no problems on 5048. I just put the disk in, put the adaptor in and let microsoft find the drivers from the disk instead of installing the belkin software.
  25. Back up and running on 5048 now. This time I have even managed to get my wireless adaptor working and using the microsoft software, not the belkin (which I think is too childish looking)
