  1. I'm using an Intel 915GM integrated chip and glass runs fine. Remember that not all cards have glass ENABLED as default. To enable it you'll need to edit the registry. I think in 5270 its in HKCU rather than HKLM.
  2. I'm using a 915GM in a Toshiba Equium M40x-189. All I did was download the drivers from the toshiba website and put them on pendrive, then installed Vista - using a standard VGA adaptor - then ran the exe from Toshiba/Intel. Have a look on the Dell website for drivers. And I had to manually enable glass in the registry, but apart fro that it works fine.
  3. Thats only becuase it doesn't have a name yet - thats still the codename!! As for Vista - I suppose it's something you can grow to use. It doesn't bother me too much now. And I agree with the 4 C's and that - the Dec CTP is really coming along.
  4. Remember that Vista is still in testing... companies don't have to release compatible drivers until it's released (approx 1 year from now). If they aren't on the intel site it's likely that there aren't any for it yet. Also, try using a more modern build such as 5219 or 5231 as beta 1 is relatively old now. The two newer version will likely have more built in drivers to so support more hardware.
  5. I'm actually going to try it with the 5231 IDX build, should have it in about an hour now.
  6. Hmm.. it doesn't like the upgrade at all. It get's past the boot screen and loading bar (longhorn one) and then it's just black. Oh well, let's try build 5247 when I can get it.
  7. The fact is... I am having problems installing my old old old Yamaha DS-XG soundcard via the exe (could not load setinf.dll) or even extracting the files via WinRAR. So if I upgrade from XP on my spare partition I want to see if the drivers will be preinstalled. I suppose running it on a 4 year old laptop designed for win2k isn't a good idea, but then again, i'm trying to run XP on my xbox somehow
  8. I'm having a lot of problems using my old laptop with vista, mainly the soundcard drivers won't install... It keep saying cannot find SETINF.dll. I've tried searching for the dll but can't find it anywhere. So.. question is... If I install XP and get everything up and running on that, can I install vista (5231) as an upgrade (via windows) and use some settings from that? I'm going to be reinstalling Vista soon anyway on a new HDD, so I wondered whether it'll work that way? Another thing about 5231 Winmain, it installs a hell of a lot quicker for me than older build taking around 2-3 hours. This takes about 1 1/2 hours
  9. I know it seems stupid but have you run the app in Windows XP compatability mode? I had a few graphics problems but doing that gotn it working for me.
  10. Ultimate all the way... Still, by the time its out, you will be able to buy the entire Windows Vista collection for the price a tank of petrol If you thought it's bad in the US, come over here!

    Build 5219

Is 5219 Beta 2 or post beta 1?
  12. Not too sure on your video capture device, but for the sound you need to download the drivers from the manufacturer of the mobo. Unfortunately, mine is a laptop from toshiba and they liek to wrap their drivers into a nice little exe package that doesn't do what it should in Vista. Although it says it has installed properly, there is still no sound and when I reboot I get the new hardware found wizard. BUT... I solved this by using the latest beta of WinRAR which can decompile exe files. Then I just extracted them to a folder I could remember and then point windows there.
  13. The XDA IIi is really only just known as that and its HTC name (creator) Alpine. I have the XDA IIs which is known as the MDA III, PDA2K, QTek 9090, XDA III in germany. Generally, they are all identicle as long as you are looking at the equivelent model. There is the Wallaby, Himalya, Alpine (or Andes), Blue Angel, Magician, Wizard, Typoon, Hurrican and the new Universal. Quite a big range really. Check out www.xda-developers.com
  14. It is impossible to unlock a motorola for free. Its been tried, tested and allt he other things. I've flexedited, hacked, shorted and it's impossible to freely unlock a motorola unless some hacks the algortithm.
  15. Wowza... it DOES work and no noticable slowdown!!! Well, it is noticable but its definately usable. No slower than ME anyway!
  16. I bet I could lower my CPU to 300mhz in my power setting option in the BIOS, and it'll still run!! I'll tell you the result in a bit.
  17. I'm running a P3 600MHz, 320 RAM 12GB partition and it runs fine. Still no glass but from what I've heard it isn't that eye candy what we were promised yet.
  18. Thing is, it lets me Hibernate, but the option for standby is greyed out.
  19. Does anyone know how to enable the standby feature on 5112? Or is it impossible since ms didn't put it in yet:(
  20. Do those little problems REALLY matter? All we can say is there is a clear winner, and thats what my dad uses!! I use XP Pro and Vista so don't bad mouth me!
  21. I'm finding Beta 1 to be almost as fast as my dual-boot XP. I think it depends on what your running on, and it's not neccesarily the more expensive things that it works more efficently on. I'm using a 4 year old Win2K laptop. After initially having sound probs it's now enough for me to run it as a primary OS.
  22. I'm also having the same problem. I have sound working, i.e. if I use windows media etc, but I don't get any windows sounds or msn messenger sounds either.
  23. I only have a 30 gigger. And I only bought it not so long ago. Even at that size i've partitioned it to a 12 and 15, one for xp one for vista. Each is only half full and I can't see it getting any bigger than that. If I want a bigger one i'll buy an external because I ain't forking out 80 quid for an 80 gig 2.5" laptop model. It's a rip off I think.
  24. It's not me, it one of my mates.
  25. Back non Topic: I had a similar problem. I solved it by booting into XP (I have two partitions, one for XP, one for Vista). I solved it by copying over the drivers in XP:\Windows\System into Vista:\Windows\System. Then I restarted the installation. I presume that the installation drivers that come on the vista dvd did not support my hardware.
