  1. The first thread on the Application Install forum covers this subject. I would recommend searching there, you will definitely have your answer. Take care buddy. [Topic Closed & Moved to Application Installs]
  2. iTunes is something that everyone knows about. The main reason for this list is to provide some alternatives to the 'well known software'. However, I want to thank everyone for the submissions. Some will be added, some will not. However, there will be no confirmation (post) by me nor DigeratiPrime about a user's submission. Mainly to prevent useless posts. Feel free to submit as many applications as you want. After all, the list is made by all of you. Thank you all.
  3. @ atamozier - Thanks for the heads up. List edited. @ alsiladka - As you can see on the topic description, the list is made of Free and Open Source Software. So yes, the "normal freeware" is acceptable.
  4. What exactly are you trying to do? Copy-Paste the necessary files from one installation to a hard drive and boot from it? It will not work. If you are looking for a minimal install possible, nLite *is* the way to go.
  5. Since I'm at it, Ill just buy a new car to carry that new computer.
  6. Hi. I noticed you said that the router has WAP enabled. WAP = Wireless Access Point (not encryption) What is encription is WEP or WPA. Your must have one of these 2 enabled so that the traffic between clients and the Wireless Access Point is encrypted. You said login. Do you use your job account to login? Do you know if the WAP is forwarding request (logins) to a centralized server (RADIUS or other)? This is really important to know, because if you are using some kind of centralized access server, you maybe getting policies that disconnect you after X time. As for the bad transmission rates ... How far away are you from the WAP or a signal repeater?
  7. If you are definitely going to try it, won't you have to BUY it? Actually, no. I will not buy it. I'll wait for a BETA release close to the FINAL (since I haven't yet tested it. I'm saving it for a BETA more close to final).
  8. I have to choose the green one also. However the green part of the Windows flag could be a little bit darker. Take care!
  9. I share Tarun's opinion. My machines are up to the job (except one old box I run Linux), still, I will not be upgrading to Vista as soon as it comes out. I will definatly try it, however, it will be on a test machine. My main computers will all run XP (until 2008 at least).
  10. The reason I said it should not be a startup program is because *it does* restart in safe mode ... ... But only when the computer is in idle.
  11. No problem buddy. Give it a shot and then let us know!! Força, abraço!
  12. *WEIRD*! The first thing that comes to mind is hardware, PSU to be more precise. Since there is no exact time for this to happen, I would not think about viruses or any malware. Do you have the opportunity of testing it with another PSU? You can also check MSconfig to see whats starting with Windows (However, I doubt that this is the problem).
  13. Did you saw the score that machine got? 3 out of 5?!! I'm gonna keep with my good ol' XP.
  14. You dont have to disable everything without knowing what it does. The list is just for you to have an idea of what can be done, if you'r uncertain if you should disable a service or not, just Google for it and read what it does, then you decide if you can disable or not. As for the RPC, you are right. It is a very important service that will cause some 'damage' if it is disabled. The Error Reporting Service is for the Pop-Up you get when an error occurs (the application crashes). I you disabled the service, you will not be asked to send information to Microsoft again (no more Pop-Up).
  15. I posted this Excel document on nLite forum for a person that wanted to clean up some services. Check it out. This settings are used at my machines, therefor, they may not work properly on your computer. Be carefull using it (even if you disable 1 that you need, you can still change it back).
  16. I wanted to post this yesterday, however, since this was on the first page of Slashdot, I didn't expect it up and running today. Posting something there is just like asking for a DDoS. New screenshots of Windows Vista are available here. If you ask me ... to many eye candy!! Not really my thing .. Still, pretty nice!
  17. This is from a project that is taking place here at the Software Hangout, however, I'll post a little bit OCS Inventory - Inventory - Download | Knocker - Port Scanner Download | Screenshots Show Traffic - Traffic Analyzer Download | Screenshots Ethereal - Protocol Analyzer Download | Screenshots
  18. Have you tried making the .CUE file like I posted?
  19. Buddy, you really need to provide more information about you'r problem, otherwise no one will be able to help you. Next time please choose a more apropriated topic title. As for your problem, A - When you try to make changes on the TCP/IP Properties you get a BSOD? B - What exactly is happening on your network so it doesnt work properly? What do you use your NIC for? Connection to a modem for Internet access or just use it for LAN? Take care and hope to hear back from you soon.
  20. I am not expert at it, however, try including this on the answer file: [NetOptionalComponents] DHCPServer=1 DNS=1 Give it a try.
  21. I think using WINNT.SIF would be the easyest way to do what you want. What didn't work? You also should have posted this on Unattended Forums. It would be easyer to get help.
  22. Monitoring exactly what on the Network? Ethereal is a very good, and powefull application. It will work as a sniffer and let you analyze traffic on your network. A good vunerability scanner is Nessus, for Unix based OS only, still I would recommended if a scanner is what you are looking for. There are some good links on the post jftuga posted ... Check them out, if you need any help just let us know.
  23. You should try it. I have been reading the page I gave you, and that application does support volume control. From what I could understand, all you need to do is install an addtional plugin. I recommend going with it.
  24. I have no idea. Are you sure this application uses Registry keys on the shortcuts you make with it? I would recommend asking on their forums or use Regmon to see what changes are made after making a new shortcut with qliner hotkeys.
