About the VNC type applications, it pretty easy to understand. Using VNC, you need to install a 'Server' and a Client. The 'server' gets installed on the machines you wish to remotly administer, and the Cliente is what you use to gain access to it. This allows you to configure a machine like you where seating right on fron of it. There are different 'flavours' of VNC.
