But for external hard drives (USB/Firewire), doesn't it still connect to an IDE cable inside of the HD case, which is then converted to a USB/Firewire signal and transmitted to the computer? And regardless of what it actually is, I think the computer views the SATA controller as an IDE one, because if I try to remove the drivers for IDE, then my computer BSOD's with 0x7B (boot device error). I guess the question is, can you still boot from an external HD if you remove the IDE drivers.
