It is certainly possible. One way to do it is to create a custom svchost.exe that doesn't link to any rpcrt4.dll functions, since the audio stack (audiosrv.dll) needs svchost.exe to be able to run as a service, and svchost.exe depends on RPCSS. The less realistic way of doing it is to completely redesign the audio stack to run as an EXE file instead of a DLL. If you don't have any programming skills at all, the simplest solution is to switch to Windows 2000, which has the audio service built into the Win32 subsystem.

But for external hard drives (USB/Firewire), doesn't it still connect to an IDE cable inside of the HD case, which is then converted to a USB/Firewire signal and transmitted to the computer? And regardless of what it actually is, I think the computer views the SATA controller as an IDE one, because if I try to remove the drivers for IDE, then my computer BSOD's with 0x7B (boot device error). I guess the question is, can you still boot from an external HD if you remove the IDE drivers.

Is there ever a case where a hard drive doesn't need an IDE channel? Only thing that comes to my mind is a USB hard drive, and I'm not too sure about that one.

The updated system files are present in your system, but if you deleted the actual installer files, then you'll have to redownload them.

I haven't seen MS complain when people distribute XP icons, but most of the Vista icon packs I've seen have been taken down at MS's request, so I'm not too sure XPero will be able make a Vistaize. And if he does, maybe he could ask Martin L to change his name to Vistaero .

Do you get a valid IP (192.168.x.x)? If you can, then try pinging the router.

Did you check if the registry entry actually existed at that point in time before you tried to delete it? Is it possible that you're deleting a non-existant entry, then installing a program over it that writes the entry?

I wouldn't recommend it as flash-based cards have limited write-cycles and once you exhaust them, then you'll be incapable of writing any more data to them. Also you'll have to tweak your OS a bit to load up the CF driver as system-critical, which involves lots of advanced registry work.

What exactly is the problem? Can you not see any wireless networks? or are you missing the option to view available wireless networks. If the latter, check to make sure that the Wireless Zero Configuration service is enabled.

Is there any software like that for Windows? I know Stardock has a few, but I absolutely hate their overpriced bloatware.

The larger pixels do help to reduce eyestrain though. Would you rather prefer a 1024x768 screen on a PDA or a 15" monitor?
