  1. Thanks PPl, I think I'm going to have to do a full format and reinstall of the OS I have tried most of the above (except devcon) if I ipconfig /release then renew it will not renew the ip address even in properties advanced windows tells me that the WMI is corrupt for all connections so I have that horrible sick feeling you get just before you face the facts and re0install, I will try the devcon first thanks again people. 2. Hi Guys, thanks for reading my post....questions, questions, Yes it works fine when its hardwired to the router, the router is fine I run a kick a** PC with two laptops (inc this one) the issue is definatly local, i.e this laptop as when I go a roaming, I'm out on the road, I use wifi spots to pick up emails and check forums....I have the same issue at every access point regardless of supplier I think I need to re-set/re-install TCP/IP, yes I get a proper IP Address however I think it could be somthing to do with DNS renewal and renewal if the IP, unfortunatly tcp/ip is such an imbedded part of XP you can't actually get to it. This seemed to be a pretty switched on forum with some good answers from other people on other subjects I was hoping someon else may have experianced this issue and knew the fix before I go for a dreadded format......... Thanks again Jace
  3. OK Guys & Girls (and everything inbetween..... ) Laptop has a wifi card (pcmcia-watsit slot thingy) turn on laptop get conection to router but no internet no lan no nothing....... this is what i have to do to get it to work.... network connections/wifi properties/ uncheck tcp/ip reboot laptop go back to properties and re-check tcp/ip aquires network address....whoosh away we go..... so i brought a new wifi card by a different maker, after re-installing again and again, still same problem, upgraded to xp pro....still there....i've tried ipconfig /flushdns /release /renew all sorts of stuff, updates, ms knowledge base, winsockxpfix, the last resort is of course format start again but you all know what a ball-ache that is, oh and btw no there isn't a restore point I can go back to or a "rescue" disc either ( no don't lecture me, its normally me doing the lecturing...."did we make a back up?" no I fecking didn't thats why I phoned you fool! ) anyway, what do you think, any idea's? I can continue the messing about (its quicker if i uncheck tcp/ip before i shutdown, thats if i remember) but its when you are working away, like I am now.......and it looses its connection and I have to uncheck, repair, recheck, test. just to make a post on a forum...... Thanks in advance Jace
