  1. Do you mean fast-user switching? Just disable it in the Users Account control panel applet.
  2. I don't believe this is a fluke, but a hidden multiplier setting. Since the default multiplier setting is 9x with a 200MHz FSB, then to reach 1900, the multiplier would be 9.5x. If somehow we could unlock the BIOS to display multipliers in increments of 0.5, wouldn't we be able to achieve higher OCs? A .5 multiplier step might not seem like much, but if someone had their FSB at 300x9 then they would have a frequency of 2.7GHz. With a multiplier setting of 9.5, it'd be 150MHz higher at 2.85GHz.
  3. I was thinking of creating an SQL Server out of my old Windows 95 computer that will be serving millions of customers simultaneously. But seriously, time to turn it into a print server.
  4. Two questions. What is it and how can I monitor if it's in effect?
  5. If you have a finned heatsink like the SI-120, then you could place a fan at one end to draw in air and another fan at the other to expel the air. Hopefully the logic behind this idea is correct this time .
  6. I'm a bit confused. Do you mean changing the email address registered with MSFN? Because if the emails were already harvested, we'd still receive the spam.
  7. Yup, found out that the quote "Let's be having you!" was popularized by Delia Smith during a football game. And I edited my message, since I've just found out that I got some more spam. And just curious, but which members have access to the email database?
  8. Complete header information, along with the HTML message code. I am beginning to lean on the theory that the emails were harvested, since this one appears to be from a different spammer, based on the fact that he/she used OE (X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1106). 9. The email header I posted is the full header, although the header is useless since everything's spoofed. For example, one email was "from localhost (linux139 [127.0.0.1])". Doesn't take a genius to realize that you can't use the internet with an IP address of 127.0.0.1 (that's the loopback interface). Mine had an IP address of 227.124.218.gmw, which is not valid. From as much as I can gather, there's nothing we can do to trace it. However, it is worth noting that the users I've talked to who didn't receive such emails were members of a special group, such as Mod or Sponsor. Members in these categories also don't see the new ads that are placed under the first post, so that's got me thinking. I've got two theories on how these are related. One is that the code Martin L used to display ads to only the Members group had a flaw in it that exposed the user's email. The other is that they're not related . EDIT: This sucks . I got more spam:
  10. Nope, I doubt it. Windows Server 2003 SP1 and Windows x64 Edition also contain this protection (which is the reason why no one can create a custom bootscreen for these OSes) and it has yet to be cracked.
  11. 12. Only know 21 words from that list. Anyone have any idea what's a cowpunch ? Just checked my email I registered with MSFN and I got something similar: "Electroencephalography." That's a good word to add to my vocabulary. I'm appalled that MSFN would spam my email!!! EDIT: Let's start a collection of these!!! Post the spam email you got here!
  13. Straight from Microsoft's kernel improvement documentation: For the uninitiated, most tools designed to bypass DRM do so by the inject/debug techniques. Also note that this protection is built into the kernel. Any attempts to modify the kernel will result in a BSOD, so there is no way to disable this protection.
  14. How much does he want to spend? By graphics do you mean Photoshop and 3D work? If he plans on going the Woodcrest route, make sure to get two Woodcrests (quad-core) as that's the only real benefit of a Woodcrest verses Conroe. They also have a higher bus speed (Woodcrest has 1333MHz compared to 1066 for Conroe). If he does a lot of professional work, then I would really recommend getting two Woodcrests as opposed to getting a Conroe. Reason for this is because most professional apps already do support 4 threads, and the upcoming Adobe CS3 suite will add multithread support for Adobe programs. Games are also moving beyond dual-threads, so he'd be future-proof for a while.
  15. Well, besides taking out the dremel, you could attach it on to an existing 120MM fan to increase its efficiency.
  16. I have 2x74GB WD Raptors that are less than a year old.
  17. Ahh! That's what the martintest account was for... I was about to say..."Martin L has two accounts!?! BAN HIM!!!"
  18. Any chance he'll change it back? Don't really like the new ad placement as it's distracting.
  19. MSFN looks really ****ed up for me at the moment. The ads are like in the middle of posts and my name's in purple now (I'm a mod? ).
  20. I don't think AMD expected to lose their crown so suddenly and by such a large margin either. All of the Conroe's I've seen *easily* hit 3.5GHZ, and most can hit 4.5GHZ, limited only by the FSB being maxed out on the mobo and the multiplier on the processor. (9x400=3600MHz only)
  21. Sometimes I wonder if Zxian moves/locks topics just for more posts ... Anyway NPDSPLAY is a WMP component, so you could try changing the default action that Firefox takes when it encounters a WMP file extension. The problem could also be that you removed a DirectShow component, though I'm suspecting your problem is caused by the former.

    An Idea!

Make sure that you install all of your programs, then run DeepFreeze, otherwise like someone mentioned before, a majority of your programs won't work.
  23. Source: http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=32885 Guess AMD's about to get their *** kicked by Conroe.
  24. Oh you mean something like this ?
