Some further good news on my install, all prgms[3rd party] that load at startup now reinstalled[11], my time from click the restart OK to fully loaded desktop went from "1 min 33 sec"[w/just sp2] to "57 sec" w/98se2ME[opt 1] installed Quite an improvement I'd say! The only time I get to see the new shutdown logo is if I do shutdown Nary a prob so far B)

Am using ver 4.56[latest I found] ver 5.0 only adds better AGP & USB support for me[tried it b4 I went into this clean install]. Have ckkd both VIA site & ASUS for newer sound[ what is on my Inst CD] & no go. Am in holding pattern right now, kinda waitin to see if anyone's got ideas. PS: PsycoUnc, my BE6 is a slot 1, don't know if all are.

I still can't figure out why my sound drivers get kicked out & won't reinstall, no I'm not using opt-3, just 1&2. I'm on my 3rd clean install, have all hrdwr drivers in stalled & am ready to install SP2.0.1. Have printout of 982ME Readme & adhere strictly to it on install. Is there some way to turn off this Digital Signature checker thing in 982ME???

I need some help here, I can't install drivers for my sound[onbooard, see sig for mobo] were installed b4 982ME, ckd systems/device drivers in control panel b4 install[do this whenever clean installing as precaution] now they're gone?, yellow ? shows in device drivers under "sound,video,& game cotrollers" & can't update/reinstall. Goes through to end of install then get msg that drivers can't be installed because the digitall sig has not been approve by MS for install on this operating system. What the F? is this ?, never ran into b4. HEEeeelp please!

Hate to breakup the reverie, but just noticed the ME[legal copy] I have is a ME upgrade disk, has a shiny surface that you have to turn in light just right to read. Please tell me I don't have to go swapmeeting[altho enjoy it] to look for a full retail ver again, to do a clean install 98se/sp2/982me. TIAFAI

Hi Biolog, can answer about Tweakui & KB891711. TweakUI allows you to change extra settings in Win without having to edit registry, some of settings require it to run resident. KB891711 is security update from MS, some people choose not to run[doesn't mess you up], your choice. Someone else will have to answer menu prob, sorry

This is not primarily a "TWEAKING" of 98se, this is to fix what should have been fixed by MS & to make 98se a more stable platform. If you want to tweak, go ahead & tweak to your content, but at the same time realize that not everyone wants a tweaked out ver of 98se. Don't complain about the cook unless your ready to do the job yourself!

I'll second erpdude's recommends on the updates, they're worth the time dlding[for dialup users like me], much improved & seem to have less drain on resouces too. Got a really sweet deal on a MS Itellipoint Explorer2 wireless mouse, after my special card rebate was USD $3.00 , now here's the rub, mouse works but can't get features[2 extra buttons & tilt wheel scroll] cause software won't load[for 2k & XP]. I ckd MS & nothing at all for 98se/ME, is there a way to fool cd to load software? CD is MS Intellipoint 5.2 mouse software. Am, of course willing to use in reg mode as wireless scroll mouse , but would like extras if possible. TIAFAI PS: if wrong place, move me wherever PPS: I'm just getting ready to load SP 2.0.1, trying to put ducks in a row.

Tihiy, sure, it's a overhyped, bloated, no running, overpriced piece of junk software, the only thing it's good for is making 98se better! JMHO. I've reverted more people to 98se than I have 98se to XP because of all the probs it's caused them on their PC's, many of them were running it for 2yrs or more & constantly having software/hardware probs before going back to 98se. Now, thanks to you, Gape, & MDGx, it's even better!

I'll move to XP when they start giving it away!

Well, I can just about match you app for app, but, I prefer to add my own rather than have them bundled ala MS, thats why we need to stick to original idea of USP & just make 98se a better OS. Let those who want to[like me & you] add their own 3rd party apps
