Tearing my hair out over memory problems!

epdude8, I personally know 1 person[lucky dog] who has been running 98se on a 64bit cpu[w/usp 2 rc1 & MDGx's 982me] for about a mo now. His opinion: "it rocks my socks". So it can be done. He's only running 1gb ram, trying to find the tweaks that'll allow a bump to 2gb Addendum: This guy is also a little on weird side, went thru nasty divorce & turned him into Howard Huges type -
azgahl, I think alot of it has to do with mobo/bios support, I upgraded my mobo last yr and bios has legacy support, in other words usb mouse & keyboard function in DOS/preOS. Haven't tried printer or scanner yet, all my input devices are usb. I don't know that you need 1 but I use a selfpowered 10 plug usb hub mainly for convenience, don't have to get to back of puter to plug stuff in Don't have wireless,so can't help there

Ya, the old salesperson gotcha been there myself I, personally, never needed that big a partition azgahl so I'll take your word for it[unlike another topic we know]

I guess your too thick headed to get it, we choose to run 98 because it suits us, each for our respective reasons, and yes we do think it's better than XP, again for our own respective reasons. We stay in our forum and don't run around to XP forums trying to tell everyone what idiots they are for running XP! Yes, I have read this post all the way thru 2-3 times! People tell you why they run 98 and your response is XP is so much better[your opinion] you are the one who has degraded this topic trying to shove XP down our throats, not a good way to win friends and influence enemies for sure. Oh yea, as was mentioned before, we're not as impressed with your creditials as you are, but we know for a fact your attitude sucks! -

Ya,we started out banging our head against 512 limit, then 768, now its 1gb. With fine people like Gape, MDGx & the rest of the people that contribute we may see that barrier fall, who knows -

19 apps loaded, same basic win install as azgahl, 48mg ram used, no lite prgm either. Do have Prgm files,My Docs on D: & E: respectively, for my own convienience. Oh yea, 386 is on begining of hdd #2, average useage=30-40mb, would disable, but it gets used in PSP running -

Unforgiven1, the only thing you have proved so far is that your are totally irrelevant to this forum, it's a forum for "95,98,98se & ME" not XP! -
erpdude, it's possible that sometime in near future that may change, as alot of pressure is being brought to bear for backwards compatability
-
Tarun, the 1 thing your forgeting here is we're all individuals, the pros & cons of doing it one way or the other is purely subjective, what matters is what the individual is happy with, unless, of course, your going to furnish us all with brand new computers, and that will only last for a short time. So all you say against hibernation/suspend is totally moot/irrevelevant

Crash&Burn,32gb??? I'm not dual booted & I have a 38gb partition on 98se for storage & backup w/ no probs on read/write

You would be better off friend to quit accusing people of piracy when you know nothing about them. You may use pirated software, but most of us have plunked down our hardearned cash for the software we run -

Alright Unforgiven1, hows about you tell me, why should I upgrade to XP, other than bells and whistles & pretty face, what does XP have to offer over 98se, other than headaches. If it's so simple to use & so much better how come so many people want me to revert their machines back to 98? Some of them have had XP for at least 2 yrs, and are just plain tired of the hassles. This is the best MS has to offer??? -

Right on the money FixitMad, when you pay the money you should own it, barring making copies for resale. Shouldn't have to keep jumping thru hoops. I run 98se cause it does everthing I need + some, thanks to Gapes usp for it. If I wanted to donate to MS I would, without reservations. -
NP Gape, just ace exams! We can all wait RC1 working good for me so far
-
azagahl, much grass! Success!
-
I'm not sure what OS you're on, but when my puter[98se tweaked] goes into suspend & wakes up, my desktop is just like I left it when I got up from my chair I've never had hibernate so I wouldn't know the diff!
-
Thnx azagahl, backup is something I can do in my sleep, I've only been at this 3 yrs[puters] & have hosed my sys more times than MS ever could[see last line in sig] but am learning, sure am glad I moseyed into this forum, so much yet to learn, so little time. Dare to go where no man has gone before
-
Hmmm, don't know answer for sure, when come out of suspend, its where I left it, I didn't install, when I put in new mobo it came up on menu, old mobo did not support but shutdown & reboot??? Think its a hardware thing w/drivers & such Maybe someone else can explain better
