  1. So what you are saying is that it does not do infinite redirect between update.microsoft.com and fe2.update.microsoft.com?
  2. I noticed that. The Chrome 70 link has been 404 for many years too. But it is in the Web Archive.
  3. How did you get the Chrome 49 direct download link? I know it is very hard.
  4. @Dave-H Better archive some catalog updates quickly! Also, does the SHA-1 expiration impact catalog updates?
  5. Will the SHA-1 certificate expiration impact the catalog?
  6. Luckily the other day I archived a bunch of old Catalog Updates such as Windows XP Service Pack 2, XP Service Pack 3, Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows Vista Service Pack 2, Windows XP Service Pack 1, etc.
  7. Update: The www.update.microsoft.com site has now been resigned with a SHA384 certificate signed on April 27. Microsoft has now also deployed HSTS on the site. The site supports TLS 1.2 and higher, with the weakest cipher being TLS_RSA_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA. https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=www.update.microsoft.com
  8. Also, the www.update.microsoft.com SHA1 certificate expires on May 5th 2021. Which is in 9 days. https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=www.update.microsoft.com
  9. The updates probably won't be completely removed from the servers though. There are still 95 98 and ME updates on the server such as: http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3-19990518/cabpool/IE5.5sp2-KB867282-WindowsME-x86-ENU_ecb125dce347c2c567994b52d6ebcdb.exe http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3-19990518/cabpool/msgames_169FFF972AD5E20D569EA65D64D366C537F30E5D.cab http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3-19990518/cabpool/Windows9X-KB917344-x86-enu_26f10ae5d4bcd3f5c4d87450dc3ae6b.exe http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3-19990518/cabpool/Windows98-KB891711-ENU_0a0d02ffb04ee461ae6c98672057046.EXE http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3-19990518/cabpool/WindowsMedia9-KB911565-Win9x-x86-ENU_8d1eeee2307201b8c45b3092eaa33f2.exe
  10. The evidence for that was it gave a 404 error if you tried to access update.microsoft.com/v6/ClientWebService/client.asmx.
  11. I wonder how between September 25 and 28 2020 Windows Update came back up. Apparently on August 6th 2020 @daniel_k reported that Windows Update gave a 80244019 error which was a 404 error. The database was deleted. It would take a long time to reupload the updates to https://update.microsoft.com/v6/ClientWebService/client.asmx. So I wonder how it would come back up if the database was deleted.
  12. You are still able to activate Windows XP in 2021 online. You need the root certificates update available at: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/stdin82/htfx/master/NT5/rootsupd.exe and Service Pack 3. You must also have a valid non blacklisted product key. Otherwise it would say unauthorized product key. Also make sure that you enable TLS 1.0 in Internet Explorer. I leave you 2 images of activating XP. It will sometimes also say unable to activate. That is usual so just keep trying a few hours later. https://www.imgur.com/a/qXlElYT https://www.imgur.com/a/Kgl2hbA
  13. A Little Bit OT, But I was able to activate Windows XP over the internet in 2021. The Pictures are a little too big so I had to use imgur. You just need the root certificates update https://www.imgur.com/a/qXlElYT https://www.imgur.com/a/Kgl2hbA
  14. @Dave-H I was even more surprised that they would put the site back up after it went down. It might still be in use for Enterprises with special contracts for extended XP security updates.
  15. The Windows Update Website is currently back up. But it is still failing to complete scans.
  16. The tray icon belongs to Security Center and it updated at around 10 am this morning.
  17. @Usher I was connecting to the catalog for newer systems. I used that because you used to be able to connect to it under HTTP. Between March 10 and March 20, Microsoft put HSTS on both the catalog for newer systems and the catalog for older systems. The difference is that the catalog for older systems supports TLS 1.0 but the catalog for newer systems supports only TLS 1.2.
  18. @Dave-H I noticed that the Window Update error used to be 80244019 now it is 80072EFE. Do you know when this error changed? I know that fe2.update.microsoft.com restricted to TLS 1.2 on October 30 2020. But when did update.microsoft.com change to TLS 1.2 only?
  19. @Dave-HI went to windowsupdate.microsoft.com on my main computer and it says the same thing. It could be that the website is down. It made no affect turning off the proxy.
  20. @Vistapocalypse If you have a valid McAfee subscription you can sign in to home.mcafee.com and it will let you download an older version only if you are on XP and Vista.
  21. Windows Update is now giving a Server is too busy error. This could be Microsoft taking down the website for good. It was working earlier today.
