  1. Hmm, mine seems to need a file called msvcr90.dll to install the certificate. Do you have that on your system?
  2. It also makes the Windows Update website load in 2000 as well, since the Trusted Sites method does not work for 2000. Although I wonder if ProxHTTPSProxy will work on 2000 with Extended Kernel.
  3. Great find! Now we have a backup if ever Microsoft decided to break the current method.
  4. A little bit OT, but does anyone have Windows Update Log files for XP from when the the update site was up before 2020? It would be great to take a look at what it should look like.
  5. Mine is all in red but it still works. I do not know why it does not work for you. I have just installed a blank XP Pro SP3 install and followed all the instructions in the kit that I made and it works. Yes, I did get 0x800072F8F if I generated my own certificate through ProxHTTPSProxy that was valid for 10 years from the day it was generated.
  6. Well, posted now. I also made an all-in-one script to make it work. Includes all the updates needed plus ProxHTTPSProxy. https://download.ru/files/ISbL9iYw
  7. Okay, I have given them a sneak peak of it. I said in the post instructions coming soon. The problem is, I am not to good with writing instructions.
  8. @maile3241 It is time for you to make a decision. We all don't want this to be patched, but you have to decide if we want to share this in MDL forums, or just keep it with MSFN.
  9. Try http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate I had that issue because it was using HTTPS and had a redirect error.
  10. Ok, I understand. It is strange that the past 2 methods for getting Windows Update working again, the WSUS Server method and this method, don't work for you but work for everyone else.
  11. Or maybe you have installed the certificate in the Rev3D folder. Do not go there, go to the certins folder and run the install exe over there.
  12. Looks like you generated your own certificate. Mine is valid from 2015 to 2025. Maybe try reinstalling the certificate from the certins folder. Run the exe file.
  13. Yes, but I do find the website faster than the MiniTool method. Sometimes, I am waiting 30 minutes to find updates with the MiniTool method.
  14. What fixed the issue for me was installing the ProxHTTPSProxy cert using the included certins folder. That fixed it and now it works. I got my version of ProxHTTPSProxy from i430vx.net. Also, make sure you have his TLS 1.2 file downloaded and import it into the registry, or else you will get the error 80072f78.
  15. Yes, I am sure it was a lot of work. I never thought the web version of Windows Update would ever work again. You solved the problem in less than 10 days. Maybe you should also make a separate tutorial on how to install Microsoft Update too.
  16. Wow! It actually seems to work! I only needed to install KB4493435 since I had installed everything else already. @Dave-H
  17. Yes, I have, get the same error, but 200 in ProxHTTPSProxy instead of 500. Still get 500 for Windows Update.
  18. Interesting how the file versions are different. What version of wuweb.dll do you have? Mine is 7.6.7600.256. muweb.dll is version 7.4.7600.226.
  19. @Dave-H It looks we have gotten further now. maile3241 is able to download and install updates on his XP vm with ProxHTTPSProxy. He even sent a video further up on this page. I never thought Microsoft/Windows Update through the website would ever work again. He is currently figuring out the other errors people are getting. I am getting 80072f78, and ProxHTTPSProxy shows it tries to connect to the update server but gives an 500 error.
  20. Also, how did you get Microsoft Update working? For me it tells me to install the ActiveX control in the information bar. But I don't see the install popup.
  21. Okay, It is still really strange that only your 1 VM works and nothing else does. Maybe you have installed updates in your VM that I don't have.
