  1. Wait, is that the same version I gave you? Since the file is signed using SHA-1, it might even work on XP RTM!
  2. Try this, bypass the proxomitron. Change this line: 127.0.0.1:8080 to 127.0.0.1:8081. The endpoint loads perfectly fine on XP SP3.
  3. I got that error too. Was able to fix it by installing proxomitron. https://www.proxomitron.info/
  4. Using the version 1.3a. You put the provided download link they give you in the web archive and go the the earliest archive from 2015.
  5. I managed to get 1.3a of ProxHTTPSProxyMII working on XP with an SHA1 certificate, but the question is, will it work on 2000.
  6. Have you installed the prerequisites to get Windows update working on Windows 2000 working again? Even before Windows Update was shut down, you still needed a few prerequisites, including, IE6, Update Rollup 1, Windows Update agent 7.4, the root certificate update, and kb2817183.
  7. Correct! Microsoft supposedly wanted the website gone from public access last year on April 27. But it seems they have kept the website, maybe for companies with custom support agreements for XP.
  8. I can confirm that this method does not work on Windows 2000 without extended kernel due to nginx requiring NT5.1. I wonder if someone can find an NT5.0 version. If not, I will continue development of my 2000 version. EDIT: It does work on 2000 with extended kernel.
  9. Well, I don't necessarily trust CD's modified like that. I use the original SP3 MSDN ISO file.
  10. Thanks for your advice! I will make a final decision in the coming weeks. If I decide to discontinue support, this is what will happen: No more support from me for the product, All download links will be made private or removed, I will recommend you move to the nginx method.
  11. What I mean is use the nginx method on a clean install of XP SP3 and then upgrade to IE8 using the nginx method. Because using my method you need to install IE8 manually.
  12. Due to this new method, I am considering ending support for my version of Restore_WU and endorse the nginx one. Should I go ahead with it?
  13. Yes, didn't see his post there. He is correct when he says it works in IE6 in XP. I wonder though if this method also works on 2000.
  14. For anyone wondering, another method has been found on MDL by member owouwu. It uses nginx instead of ProxHTTPSProxy and it works with IE6 in XP, no prerequisites required. https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/restore-windows-update-for-vista.82336/page-11#post-1724717
  15. Thanks for this great and in detail tutorial! I will surely link it to my all-in-one restore wu package over at MDL.
  16. @maile3241 @AstroSkipper I have an idea of how we can get it to work on Windows 2000 without Extended Kernel. I see that the certificate it generates is made with an SHA256RSA signature, viewing the changelog, the older versions generate an SHA1RSA certificate. If we could get a copy of the older version, it might work on 2000.
  17. Great! I would obviously prefer an extended kernel over a compatibility pack. Seems you have made great process already by the looks if it.
  18. Yep, I was able to activate with only SSL 3.0 and IE6 with root certificate update. Below is a picture of Internet Explorer connecting successfully to the activation server with IE6 and via SSL 3.0.
  19. @vxiiduu Is it possible to patch the Python installer as well as you did with OneDrive? I prefer a system installer rather than the portable version.
  20. Yes, but you don't need PosReady Updates. Just enter a valid XP key in the activation wizard and it will activate even with IE6 installed.
  21. Another OT post, but if any of you didn't know, the online activation servers still work for XP with a unblacklisted product key. You just need the root certificate update. If you activate online, you don't have to deal with Genuine Windows Activation error on Windows Update. It connects to this url, https://wpa.one.microsoft.com Here is the SSL Test https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=wpa.one.microsoft.com It supports XP ciphers.
