All the mui files are found in en-US in system32. Remember that, you may need to find a different folder for your language. (example: fr-FR for French, de-DE for German, ja-JP for Japanese, etc.)

The reason why this happens is because of the menu positioning changing (since it's almost close to the top edge of the taskbar), so the icons change sides. This is probably what you are referring to, right?

While ExplorerPatcher is indeed nice, it's sad that it doesn't have the option to show Windows 7 network layout. A small update: When I turned off Windows Firewall, Windows Update worked for me! Installation of updates is working as well!

In my opinion, I think Windows 7 and 8 need an extended kernel. I don't think Windows 8.1 needs one, which like you said, can have the latest versions of some software with workarounds/modifications.
