@Ariel Schnee Welcome to MSFN! And yes, I do like this school girl picture, it's nice.

@AstroSkipper I tried your guide again, but unfortunately I still get error code 0x80072F78 when clicking Custom or Express. And yes, I did follow every step in your guide in the right order. I did not change the order or missed a step. I have TL2 1.2 enabled, inserted ProxHTTPSProxy's CA.crt to Trusted Root Certificates Authorities, configured Trusted Sites and added the 3 necessary sites (and of course set the security level to High!), wuauend.dll didn't get replaced by SFC, also configured config.ini correctly. And of course PosReady.reg merged before installing PosReady updates, root certificates are updated. If you want more information than that, don't hesitate to ask. I can provide you more information.

It's ok. And I am not being angry, I just wanted to point it out if you don't mind. I'm a peaceful user nonetheless. You're welcome. And yes, I read your guide carefully to ensure no errors are there. I guess you did this easter egg on purpose, or maybe you were writing very quickly and didn't notice. Now that I see you corrected it, I see it became another typo: KB94288-V3 (while it should be KB942288-V3). Thanks, I hope the same. Just this change? I thought that ProxyHTTPSProxyHII REV3e was included in place of REV3d, and that your fixed cacert_Updater.exe is also included in REV3e in Restore_WU_XP.7z 1.2.1. The change, which the changelog has mentioned, seems minor to me in my opinion. Also, I know that doing things manually is easier, since I have full control of what I do.

@maile3241 I hope you enjoy this forum. Have a nice day. I have the same wish as you do.

Sorry for everyone who replied to me hasn't seen me online. My network was down, and I wasn't able to access some sites, such as MSFN, and I wasn't able to be online on MSFN for almost 2 days because of that. I am back again nonetheless. Anyways, first things first... @LonghornXP I have no knowledge/experience about CFF Explorer, so I didn't use it (I know you said it's optional). If I had, I would've used that. @maile3241 That update you suggested me to install was already included in Restore_WU_XP.7z, and installed after opening Install.cmd. @AstroSkipper Of course yes, I did restart my VM after patching. Here are some replies to some of your posts I missed: Sorry, I accidentally screwed my VM up when following your guide again, so I reset it entirely. Actually I had a snapshot to revert to (that snapshot was showing a clean installation of my XP SP3 VM [no updates, no patches installed, no modifications...]), so, I didn't reinstall my XP VM entirely if that's what you thought I meant by "reset it entirely". <OT> Well, VMs are my only choice to run legacy OSes. If I had XP (or any other legacy OS) on real hardware, I wouldn't have thought of VMs. (Actually I would, but I would run vms of older version than what OS version my real hardware runs) I am male not female lol. PS: Don't be angry or sad. Again, I was trying to access MSFN many times, but couldn't because of my network being down. Went offline from MSFN for almost 2 days because of that. </OT> Anyways, back on-topic again! Thanks for updating the guide, @AstroSkipper! I will try again! PS: your guide has a typo: KB94228-V3. It should be KB942288-V3 instead, because I tried searching KB94228 in Microsoft Update Catalog, but it said no updates are found. And finally... OK, so, in conclusion, I will try again with this updated guide on my clean installed XP SP3 VM, I promise to be careful this time... Best regards, Mina

By "Windows system folder", do you mean "C:\Windows\system\"? I don't see any Windows Update log there, unless it's there somewhere I don't know. Yes. Most of the steps in your guide were done using Install.cmd in @xpandvistafan's Restore_WU_XP.7z package. The rest (Registry merge [tls 1.2.reg, posready.reg], ProxyHTTPSProxyMII configuring for WU site, etc..) were done by me. I have double-checked that I followed all of your steps in your guide properly, but I'll check 1 more time just to be sure.

I followed the guide of restoring WU to IE. It gets called up normally after starting it from start menu (or from Tools menu in IE) with ProxHTTPSProxyHII open, but it gives me an error code 0x80072F78 when checking for updates (Both Express and Custom). If someone would help me solve this error, that'd be nice. The version of heinoganda's ProxyHTTPSProxyMII I'm using is REV3e. All necessary updates for the guide are installed. Certificate is in Trusted Root Certification Authoritites. Roots and Revoked Certificates are updated to the latest. If you need more information, ask.

Thanks, I did that, but it redirects me to https://www.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/thanks.aspx?ln=en, and gives me this error: I also have TLS 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 enabled. SSL 2.0 and 3.0 are disabled.

Great for you. I was actually testing it in my main OS (Windows 11 with Chrome version 99). I am trying it in a XP VM now. Thanks, I added both sites to Trusted Sites and set the security level to High. But, which WU site exactly to add to compatibility list?
