Can't say I've had that problem, I looked hard though to find an installer for MSN 6.2 but when I did get it I got nothing about upgrading to 7.

While we're on topic of creating a kick a** freeware machine, how about I, a seasoned gamer (I like to think so anyway hehe) let you guys know of some of the best free games out there! I know this would rather go in the Gamers Hangout but this is a thread for free software so... As said before, Grand Theft Auto 1 & 2 are both absolute classics that cannot be denied! Here are some others for ya Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory Can be downloaded at various sites, http://enemy-territory.4players.de:1041/ http://returntocastlewolfenstein.filefront.com/ One of the best online first person shooters out there, and certainly one of the most popular. Play as either Axis or Allied troops in various WW2 themed settings in objective based teamplay maps. The game was made using the RTCW engine and was originally planned as a mod for that game but eventually came to be a free standalone game. Great community as well, one of the main things that affects the way a game can be! Each team has 5 different types of troop to play as: Soldier (Heavy weapons, lots of boom boom), Medic (Heal and revive teammates), Field Ops (Give out ammo packs and call in airstrikes), Covert Ops (The stealthy guys, snipe off enemies and steal their uniforms to look like one of them!) and Engineers (Needed to build various things throughout the map) You're gonna need to form a team mixed of all these classes to launch effective attacks on your enemie and win the maps! True Combat: Elite Download at http://www.truecombat.com/intro.php This is a total modification for Wolfenstein: ET (So you're going to have to have that installed first of all). If you're bored of the arcadey-unrealistic feel of Enemy Territory, try this one and completely turn it around! This changes Enemy Territory into a realistic, counter terrorism based game in the same vein as Counter Strike. However, compare the realism of this game to the so called realism of Counter Strike and this wins hands down. (Plus Counter Strike sucks anyway but not to go off the subject) No crosshairs for your weapons requiring you to bring the weapon to your eye level and aim down the iron sights. Be careful not to rely on the cover of wooden boxes or other things that might be in the battlefield, some weapons can be ferocious enough to be able to fire and shoot straight through certain materials! No health bars or money to buy weapons with while you're in the battlefield! You take a shot you better hope its not to your head or chest or else it'll probably kill you there and then. The game makers have planned that in future releases, wounds to bodyparts may affect the functionality of that limb. This game isn't even officially in Beta stages yet so be sure to keep an eye on it, it will be BIG in the future. Gunbound Get it at http://www.softnyx.net/ Soon to become Gunbound: World Champion, this is another online game which just might have you hooked if you're not too careful! This is a 2D Turn Based battle game. Players take part in various cute and colourful tank like machines each with their own special powers, abilities, advantages and disadvantages. The aim of the game is simple, to blast the hell out of the other team! When you begin playing though, you begin to learn though that a whole new tactical world opens up and you really have to think about how you're gonna play to make sure you dont give the enemies too much of an advantage over you and your team! You'll win gold and Experience points for winning matches, with the gold you can buy upgrades for your 'avatar', new clothes and items to make him/her look cool and really stand out or just save it all up to build the ultimate fighting machine! You're gonna have to rack that experience up as well to advance through all of the game's ranks if you aim to be the world's #1 player! Simple on the outside, indepth and very engaging on the inside. Recommended! Other games that spring to mind: Knight Online - a free MMORPG that while not as current or advanced as say World of Warcraft or Guild Wars, is still **** fun to play and you certainly dont have to worry about monthly fees or any other purchases! Enemy Territory: Fortress - Another ET mod (Can you tell I'm an ET fan?) though admittedly I'm not as keen on this as other games. This turns ET into a fast paced, Quake 3 style team fortress game. Arm yourself up with lots of firepower then go in to take the enemy base over! O-Game - This is a web based MMO that kinda blends RPG and RTS elements together. Colonise your own planet and control everything in there, from power, resources, to fleets, defences and build everything up to become leader of the universe... Or fail miserably lol. VERY addictive and currently one of my favourite games out there. Nanaca Crash - Put simply, the best flash game ever created I hope this helps some of you guys

Considering he's already doing something illegal (I would think so anyway), surely hes just asking for trouble wanting people to pay for that s***!

It doesn't really take much handling, if you've ever played a First Person Shooter on PC youll know what to expect. Movement and strafeing with W,A,S,D and turning/looking with the mouse, its easy and once you're used to it, feels so much more natural than any console controller and allows for perfect aiming at all times.

Take a look at all the trailers and s*** around for the PS3 and XBox 360, if you think they scream 'Next Generation' you are an id***. Visually I dont think much of them, what more can be done with the visuals of games. Hardly any of the titles on show screamed out anything to me and it just goes to show that Sony and MS don't care about games whatsoever. They want numbers, big numbers in their machines to sell as many of em as they can without giving a crap about the person who is gonna buy them in the first place. Nintendo on the other hand have even said that pushing technology is no longer enough for gaming. That is why they are focusing more on creating new ways of playing rather than simply throwing in better and faster technology which probably won't be used to it's full potential anyway. The Nintendo Revolution will be just that, a revolution. You PS3 and XBox 360 owners might be happy with your uber-leet graphics and visuals. But you won't be smiling when you get the same old un-original games that you were probably getting bored of playing on your PS2 and XBox.
-
Its 'gamers' like you that p*** me off If it wasn't for the likes of Nintendo or Sega you wouldn't have had a childhood and you wouldn't have whatever it is you're playing on now. As for the maker of this post, please edit and put the Revolution in there, it's gonna destroy

The mods potential for the GTA games are absolutely fantastic believe me You want an example? A VERY popular mod for GTA3 on the PC is called REALGTA3 http://realgta.net/realgta/ It's kinda like a total conversion of GTA3, you still get Liberty City and the gameplay of GTA3, but visually, the whole thing is new, and REAL! You like Banshees or Stingers or any of those sports cars in GTA3? Replace them with Dodge Vipers, Porsches or even Ferraris. It replaces the cars, weapons, textures (Rocky textures are a great example), and many looks of the buildings that you see. It even throws its own 'Statue of Liberty' in there I think the screen below is a good example of how neat it looks

To be honest I've never heard anything from NIN before but I've always known of their reputation as probably the biggest group in industrial metal so thats always had me interested. I must say that I did go and download the latest album the other day out of sheer curiousity and it took me a lil while to get used to their sound but now I must say I'm loving it! 'Right Where It Belongs' is simply amazing. The simple piano and that hard fuzzy synth in the background make for an amazingly mellow and melodic, yet unusually creepy track, while Reznor's vocals simply make the whole piece perfect. The lyrics (as youve got in your sig un4given1) are in my eyes a beautifully dark look on life from a persons eyes. For that one track alone, the album is worth it.

Yeah the concept surrounding the game is similar to alot of games out there, web based or otherwise but is pulled off extremely well IMO.

Hewwo! Thought I'd let you guys know of an awesome game I've recently found myself addicted to, if you go over to http://www.ogame.org/ , you can sign up and join a free web based game. The idea surrounding the game is simple, because I've just copied and pasted from the site "Welcome to OGame OGame is a strategic space simulation game with thousands of players competing with each other simultaneously. All you need to play is a standard web browser. What is OGame about? As an intergalactic emperor you have the possibility to strengthen your influence throughout the galaxies by numerous strategies. Beginning your rulership at your homeworld you begin to build an economic and military infrastructure with your resources. Researching new techniques and upgrading your buildings and researches gives you access to superior technologies and improved weapon systems. During the game you have the option to colonize planets and to create alliances together with friendly emperors. Trading with other players and fighting against enemy empires helps you to get the resources you need to prosper even more quickly." So, its kinda like a web based command and conquer if you will, but on a much larger scale. I think you can still sign up to play in Universe 4 atm (where I'm currently playing), if not, then Uni 5 will soon be open to blitz. The game is very addictive, from the first day you start you'll find yourself building and upgrading your mines, synthesizers and power plants to try and pile up as many resources as you possibly can. You'll then have to think about what route youre gonna take to play the game. You can either try and find an alliance to join and play the game together with friends (and potential backup for if you have any problems), or you can go it lone ranger, slowly taking over solar systems, then galaxies and if youre good enough, even the whole Universe! You're gonna have to think about whether you wanna start building defences for your planet, or risk keeping those resources open to all while you build away at other things. Or, you can get defences up and start building your own fleets of spaceships, and when you're ready, go to attack or even declare full scale wars on other players in hope of taking over their planets or stealing as many of their resources as possible. The whole thing is about power, theres still a load more crap about the game you gotta discover for yourself, but hey, http://www.ogame.org/ , sign up today, and prepare to lose some of your social life

At the moment for me its gotta be : (In no paticular order) Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory True Combate: Elite (A counter terrorism based mod for W:ET) Flatout (Owns NFSU for pure fun) Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Final Fantasy 8 (I've gotten back into playing 7 & 8 in wait for the new FF movie based on FF7, yay!)

Thats where your wrong PS2 emulators have been on the scene for a good couple of years now! If you wanna know ANYTHING relating to emulation of any kind, get your a** over to http://www.ngemu.com/ for news on console emulation. As for PS2 emulation, there are a few emus out but with the current console technology for its going to be a while before any emulator (or maybe I should emulator plugins) arrive which allow you to play a game flawlessly, that and the fact you're gonna need a pretty powerful system.
-
Oh my goooood! the memories are flooding back now, dude that is awesome lol /me boots up the NES emulator!
-
Anything with fast rock or metal music whacked into a bunch of Final Fantasy clips is enough for me!
-
Hmm, if you're a Final Fantasy nut, I suggest you download a SNES emulator (I really shouldn't say where from because of the forum rules) as well as the ROM's for the original Final Fantasy games. If not Final Fantasy then the Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past, is one of the greatest games ever created.

Ubuntu Linux - try this great distro for FREE!
lylo replied to prathapml's topic in General Discussion
I'd LOVE to try something like that out, but whoa, the whole seems way too overwhelming lol, I may play a bit with Linux but that sure as hell doesn't mean I'm any good with it I have got it in my bookmarks though under my 'Penguin' folder lol and I am gonna give it a good look through sometime. Basically, I'm a gamer, and so I want my Linux system to be able to play games (So, getting the video drivers perfected is a must), as well as have all of the alternative programmes I would need to do my usual Windows stuff, such as encoding video (mainly from .avi to .mpeg), Office work (Because of Linux I'm now a full Open Office convert!), as well as all the usual gobbledegook. Heh, now its a good thing that Linux natively plays some of my fave games (Doom, Quake engine based games mainly). So as much as I want to learn Linux, I must say for the time being I am hooked on creating my own personal and perfect unattended XP disc lol. I only dabble with Linux when say I've finished a new XP disc and instead of just installing it straight away I wanna try something different, for now its more of a filler thing than a fully serious intention of mine to learn. *Edit* dman I almost forgot, whats your experience with LFS (Linux From Scratch), I like how you try to get us into it lol and I do appreciate that, but what has it done for you, or I should say what have you managed to do with it? -
Ubuntu Linux - try this great distro for FREE!

Well you probably already know that Fedora might as well be RedHat 10 + lol Very easy system to use, aimed at ease of use, and in my opinion Fedora is looking to be THE distro that might bring Linux closer to grabbing a better share of desktop users and switch them over to the power of the penguin! -

I don't know if you're for testing DigeratiPrime but if you are test versions of Fedora 4 have been released and are available for download I do believe this is the first public test of the new OS and if I remember right Fedora release about 3 tests before actually making their OS final so you might want to consider that. -
It really does make you wonder doesn't it... Theres even a slight temptation for ME to look into it! :/

Well I installed 7.0 and my problem still occured. Although I did discover that I can still log in if I simply hit the 'login as different user' button than do my details from there. However it wont let me hit 'remember my details' or else I'll still get the error so I'm left with MSN that won't automatically log in. And as for my quick time with playing with 7.0 my advice is stay well clear of it, the amount of crap that does come with it (I might install again soon and try the patches available for it), it might as well be a **** VIRUS you can't get rid of! Stick with 6.2 while you still can, from what I've heard the extra features such as winks and nudges are annoying anyway!

I dabble in Linux fairly regularly and I was certainly interested in Ubuntu, so i got the iso, burnt it off etc. The install process for it was great, very very easy to use (even without the actual graphical interface, its all text for Ubuntu), the downside though is that with Ubuntu you can't choose which packages you wanna install or not install during the process, you gotta go through the LOT, and so the install does take a long time compared to most Linux distros. I'm talking a good half an hour or so before I even got to the login screen (quite a while considering other distros can be installed in very little time), anyway, I was rather dissapointed to see that it didn't recognise my GFX card (FX5200) so i was left with a distro that DOESN'T create a root acount by default (thats right, you heard me lol), and my own acount that has limited permissions so I couldn't install my own drivers to get it working. It's meant to be a very promising distro but I just thought I'd let you know of my bad experience with it If anyone gets any success with it on the graphical front, please let me know how it works out for you -
I'll try that out now but from what I've seen of 7.0 I really don't want to install it, it just looks so unbelievably bloated! Lol, thanks for the suggestion though I'll try that now.

Ok theres a lil anger out the way first of all! Anyway, I've come across quite possibly the most annoying problem with MSN Messenger 6.2 ever and it is not going away lol. Basically as soon as I open it up and it tries to automatically log me on, it always fails with the error message: Sorry, we could not sign you in because the sign-in name does not exist or your password is incorrect. If you have forgotten your password, please click Help in the main Messenger window, and then click Help Topics for instructions on resetting your password. 0x81000303 Now I found a few solutions on the net to get around this. One of them was to simply paste into the 'Run' box: RegSvr32 Softpub.dll and then try again to log on. That didn't work and I still get the same error. Another solution was to enable or re-enable the Cryptographic Services through Administrative Tools. Nope, no luck. The last solution I found was to go into my Internet Explorer options and make sure SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0 are enabled under the security section. Nope. Nothing. I KNOW my password and login details are correct. I can access my hotmail with no trouble whatsoever and any web-messengers I find work as well. Whats even more annoying is that I logged on to another user acount on this computer and logged on to MSN Messenger with their details with no trouble either. I can also log on to that other hotmail acount (its my dads, and I only know the details because I set it up for him), on my own user account, but not mine!! Can anybody help please? :angrym:

I crunch for Find-A-Drug I'm part of the PC-Zone Crunchers (Team No. 2192), I've been going for a few months now, and I just love the feeling of knowing that my computer is doing something very much worthwhile rather than sitting idle overnight. I know some of the guys on here crunch for SETI, while I have no problem with that whatsoever I find it weird how people can do something for a cause that for all we know may lead to nothing at all in the long run... or even worse... lead to a war between humans and aliens cementing our doom and eternal torture to our soon to be extra terrestrial leaders Hehe, with Find-A-Drug however, you're giving your time (or rather your spare CPU cycles) to something that IS real, that IS known. My grandfather died from cancer last year and ever since discovering FAD soon afterwards I've stuck to it and I will continue to do so. This is DEFINITELY a very worthwhile cause and to everybody reading this, I feel there is no excuse at all why you shouldn't put the effort in as well. Download the software, sign up, join a team if you want (its kinda fun having that little competetive edge to see who can crunch the most, our team, the PCZone Crunchers are ranked 48th in the world with just 30 members) and do your bit!

NFSU2? Dont make me laugh, either pick up the original NFSU for much cheaper, and you can play exactly the same game...
