Hi everyone! I don't know whether this will get a positive or negative response from you guys, but for all of you firefox users who also have Adblock installed, do you know if its possible to completely prevent the googlesyndication.com banners and ads? I love the feeling of being able to jus right click an ad or a banner to never see it again, and I don't know if its to how those google ads work or what but it is annoying seeing those banners all the time. So if anyone could tell me if its possible, and how to completely prevent seeing these ads, that would be BRILLIANT!

I remember trying to read the FF guide but there was so much it got a lil overwhelming lol, I remember then jus skimming through it to be honest, although the installer I am using from that guide is one that when extracted gives an .msi, it installs FF without any themes or extenstions (sometimes I just like a clean start with programmes you know) along with flash for it. But I'll make sure to try and read the whole thing sometime lol, thanks for the help anyway guys, I do appreciate it

Wow.... now I never knew of those but that seems like its technology pushed to the max!!!! :woot:

The only way to make .iso images of them that I know of, basically involves ALOT of crap. I know nothing about actually burning them or if its even possible, but... http://www.maxconsole.com/?mode=comments&newsid=1090 should cover it. I don't know whether these methods have changed over time, but this is probably the most well known way to get .isos of the discs...

Ok, thanks for the replies so far but I must admit that being new to the whole unattended thing the advice you've given is slightly confusing lol. Are you saying that I should A: Put the alternatives BEFORE firefox in my batch.cmd, and B: After installing the alternatives, silently run that registry entry?
-
Ok, I have my unattended disc installing Firefox 1.0 and then Quicktime Alt. and Realplayer Alt. in that order. One thing I've noticed though, is that Firefox never seems to work with any embedded media that would use either Quicktime or Real, it'll always give me the missing plugin error, and try to link me to the downloads for their respective programmes, which I obviously dont want. I managed to solve this problem when I realised that the Firefox plugins and components folders were missing vital dll's and other files that it would need to display content in pages. These files were actually found left in the Quicktime Alt. and Realplayer Alt. folders, and needed to be copied over to firefox for anything to work. First of all, has anyone else had this problem? Secondly, does anyone know why these files might not have been copied, even though I'm positive the installer for the alternative players install browser support as well by default? Wub, Lylo

How do you mean? If you mean how do I have a signature which displays the games I play, well its all down to the programme: X-Fire, which is a simple but hugely effective messenger aimed at gamers. It allows you to track buddys, where they're playing, follow them into servers etc. The signature there is a 'mini-profile', one of their features, its basically just an image link But not to try and get too carried away on an irrelevant post lol!

Hehe, just getting my one post of spam in here! Here's to getting that first star!

Or for a big eBay clear out It's surprising how well they sell, a friend of mine is just about to bid on a Sega Master System with 50+ games (All Boxed + Instructions) for £60! A pretty sweet deal for seller and buyer in my opinion! I know most of you are all for the ulitmate retro re-living, but I really do think that in today's age, it just makes sense to go to emulation now, especially where older systems are concerned. Do you REALLY want to sit for 10 minutes plus watching your old spectrum and commodore games loading, while having to listen to the annoying screetching (as if you were back on a 28 k modem!) and sitting at all the flashing colours and s*** with the big loading screen in the middle lol.

Well while I've never had to put up with waiting for that long (After all, the C64 i own is just for home use really), I must say the printer monitor for mine does report some pretty stupid, completely incorrect errors at times which is annoying. Anyway, about those drivers... sorry for the bad arrangement of this, but this shot basically shows the majority of the contents for my C64 Driver CD (I think I've picked the appropiate folders here)....
-
Well I'm also keen to check this out, I have a Stylus C64 and it'd be nice to see that install with Windows, unfortunately right now I'm at college haha, so as soon as I get home today, I'll look at the driver CD, I'll post screenies of the CD contents and see if the driver installer is of any paticular type. Would that be of any help? Also, you can download drivers from the EPSON website, although I have noticed (or maybe I've done something wrong), that when using these drivers, they don't install the Printer Monitor, and so I'm stuck with a working printer, but with no idea whatsoever as to ink levels, any printer errors etc.

Yeah I still got my NES, and theres nothing better then hooking it up from time to time and blitzing Power Blade, Wrath of the Black Manta, Mega Man 2, Bionic Commando (Possibly the best NES game ever!)

Its gotta be Chris Rock for me, "I can tell a puerto-rican anywhere. That's not Pochahontas, thats Jennifer Lopez!" "You don't need to work out if you gotta gun. You got pecks? I got TEC's!"
-
I dunno whether this will bother you folks, but if any of you like to try out emulation, head over to http://emu-russia.km.ru/?l=en , Tonnes of ROM's available for alot of retro consoles and computers, or http://romhustler.net/si/ which might have some stuff the former doesn't offer. As for emulators, well they're easy enough to hunt down. Have fun! If you must know, I'm a 16 and 8 bit kid lol, Master system, NES, Mega Drive and SNES ALL THE WAY!

My point ISN'T that the gamecube offers only four player games. I'm saying that Nintendo make easily the best multiplay games, and single plays, that don't have to resort to such overused features such as 'gib this dude to see guts' or 'use stealth here' or whatever. Obviously you've never even given any of these games a try, and I seriously won't believe you even if you say you have! Anyway, allow me for a second to just divert away from Gamecube and go on to your X-Box, which you've finally given examples of games for... Halo 2 - Not that well received by the general gaming public. Praised only for its multiplayer (Fair enough with 16 player Live deathmatches or whatever), but overall, a major victim to hype. Also bound to be developed for PC any time soon. Morrowind - Pc version available..... Fable, admittedly I don't know much about, although I'll resort to general reviews here saying again that it was a major victim of hype. Project Gotham 2 - Realistic?! Ok, so throw real cars in there, you have a realistic racer. Besides if it wasn't for Metropolis Street Racer on the dreamcast you'd never have PGR in the first place... Doom 3 - If you're saying this is a brilliant FPS you need shooting I'm sorry to say, this was easily the biggest dissapointment of 2004, and I seriously believe thats not just my opinion. People stopped talking about Doom 3 a month or so after it was released. Rainbow Six 3 - Yes it's an original X-Box title, but why doncha just go out and get Raven Shield and Athena Sword on the cheap. You don't even sound like you need a console. I've read in another thread you posted how your X-Box is the ultimate emulation machine. Just use your **** PC! Yes, it is pretty amazing what you can do with a modded X-Box, but why bother when your nice desktop is sat right there ready to boot up and blitz away. Right, I'm gonna end this now, I hate going into b***h mode, and I've done enough whinging for one day. Call me a fanboy or whatever you want. I'm just trying to defend a company that should rightfully be winning the console wars rather then losing to narrow minded gamers who want a big, fat X-Box controller in their hands because its the manly thing to do, or players who think its all about blowing s*** up and shouting 'Noob' to people on the other end of a deathmatch. If you wanna further continue the flame war or whatever, fine with me, I'll leave you to go play Counter Strike or whatever...

I decided to have a go at making my second unattended disc today, and so I just copied the OEM folders and batch.cmd file from my first disc into the folders for my new disc. For my first disc, Adobe Reader 7 installed perfectly using: start /wait %systemdrive%\install\Applications\Adobe\AdbeRdr70_enu_full.exe -q /s /v/qn I simply copied and pasted the lines from my first batch file into this new one and proceeded to carry on adding the new stuff to it. However, after getting it installed with VMWare, on every startup with the new XP disc I get this rather annoying message: This application failed to start because MSVCP71.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem. I don't know if it helps or not but with each disc I make I always put it through nLite beforehand and reduce it big time. I did the same with my new disc and have made it slightly smaller, do you think there could be any chance that the error I'm getting is linked to something I may have removed with nLite?

REALLY?! What other game in the last 20 or so years has required you to hit bongos in time with music?! Just because a game uses the same character or names in it's brand, does not make it unoriginal. I suppose Wario Ware (an undeniable Nintendo classic) is completely unoriginal because Wario is in it?! You're right that the Zelda games do usually follow very similar storylines, but in no way does that make every single Zelda game unoriginal. The Ocarina of Time was praised for how amazingly deep it was, and the scale of the thing was just huge, along with the amount of stuff you can do. The Wind Waker simply added to this, and because of that, was also praised as a classic! Even if you are gonna continue believing that Nintendo don't make original titles, how about the most important aspect of them all: FUN. You play games, to have FUN. Four players on FF:CC : Brilliant. Four players on Mario Kart - Double Dash: Absolutely fantastic. Four players around Wario Ware: Bye Bye Best Friend! Four players on Zelda - The Four Swords: Excellent. Get my drift? And all Nintendo exclusives I do believe... Nintendo not only make possibly the most original games still, but without a doubt they also make the most fun games...

Hye un4given1, You're right about that deal with Sony and Nintendo, I didn't read the link you posted, but I read different a while back, what I read was that it was coming up to the end of the 16 bit era, and apparently Nintendo were making the same deal with Phillips when they pulled out. Phillips then went to Sony with this new CD technology and because of that, the Playstation was born. Tell me if I'm right in anyway haha And as for those dissing FF Crystal Chronicles... you never tried it with 3 mates with their GBA's then? An expensive set up I know but its bloody worth it! B)
-
lol, does someone not like consoles then?
-
And you want originality? A word and two letters for you: Nintendo DS. Nuff said. Dual Screen, Touch Screen, Integrated Microphone, 16 Player WIRELESS multiplay with only one game cartridge required. Even better is the fact that the DS has took off so well in Japan and America, the PSP? Don't make me laugh. Sony have realised they're not in the handheld market and so they've decided that without any thinking about, they'll make their own 'contender' to the DS, whats happened? It's failing, but I will be honest in saying I don't think its going to lose. Why? Because Rockstar have confirmed GTA for the PSP. There you have what will be the PSP's only selling point. Thats if the battery life can go long enough to play the games intro and to last long enough for a mission.

I'm sorry maverex but I don't see how any of your reasons genuinely contribute to Nintendo's failure over the last years. What you HAVE to remember is this, Nintendo have failed only in the west, Europe, and America, now yes they are probably the two biggest areas that will mean success or failure, but our tastes are so much different to those in Japan/Asia in general, where Nintendo still remain supreme. The reasons why Nintendo have failed over here are like this: 1. Advertising. Plain and simple, THE killer of Nintendo, I am a nintendo fan boy, and I have no problem in saying that Nintendo probably make THE best games ever. They well and truly are one of the only developers left, if any, who are willing to take the risks and make original, fantastic games. Pikmin anyone? B) The problem is though, Nintendo DO suck at advertising, and showing off their muscle, how many adverts in mags/tv/etc do you see for any of their products, nowhere near as many as those for X-Box or PS2. 2. Sony & Microsoft. Its because of these 2 companies consoles, and their lack of true innovation and originality, that gaming is more and more becoming aimed towards the 'casual gamer'. Gamers these days, they don't WANT originality or fun, they wanna blow heads off innocent people and see blood and guts splattered all over the pavement. Developers (and gamers) are beginning to think that if you throw naked women, violence and abusive language in a game, you have a 'mature' game for a 'mature' audience. Roll in all of the 12 year old's who wanna buy 15+ rated games... If you ask me, I say take away GTA (Which is a genuinely fantastic game I will say) from the PS2, and the god awful Halo from the X-Box, then the two really don't have that many selling points...

Well I've had another search, and it's been mentioned that this post has everything a user would need... http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...8&hl=openoffice Admittedly, its all blah to me lol! While I am lost on actually getting the thing installed, I did find this http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=20120&hl= gave some pretty straight forward info on the response file so I don't think that part should bring up too much trouble. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=18168&st=10 This one just confused the hell out of me! http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=16390&hl= I found this one though, and one post simply said, The file included with that is just a text file, a response one it seems, [Environment] InstallationMode=INSTALL_NORMAL DestinationPath=C:\Program Files\OpenOffice [Java] JavaSupport=preinstalled_or_none [Windows_Desktop_Integration] Register4MSWord=True Register4MSExcel=True Register4MSPowerPoint=True RegisterAsDefaultHTMLEditor=False I'm gonna give this a try , if it works on VM, I'll get back with hopefully a much cleaner post on how to do it lol!

Ahh if its just a case of /S thats fine, tbh I'm cool without the desktop icon, startup or whatever, its all good, thank you for that erik_demon

Before you start flaming me, YES, I have searched the forums for threads relating to this, but admittedly none of them have made any sense to me. So I'm making this one in hope that I'll be able to get a much clearer answer that can hopefully help me and anyone else out stuck with it. Ok, to business, I downloaded the ISO of 1.1.4 from the website, and it seems that all the ISO is, is just all of the OOO installers etc for all OS' thrown onto a cd, there for a user to explore the cd and find which installer he/she needs. I'm not sure whether the installers supplied on the ISO's are in anyway different to those ready to download from the site. So, I've explored the Windows section, and I have this, a 45.9MB file called ooo_setup.exe, in normal circumstances, ie, a non unattended install, after opening, it'll ask for a normal installation, or an expert installation (network mode), I pick normal and so the installer goes on to extract a tonne of files to a temporary location, and when thats finished, the installer begins in a rather nice GUI. Now from what I've read, to make OOO install unattended, it needs a response file or something to answer certain questions thatll come up relating to the install? It'd be nice to know which of these I'd need in this file. OK, well this installer.... 1. Asks for personal details, name, town, email, phone no. etc etc. 2. Standard Installation, Custom or Minimum. 3. (Choosing standard or minimum) Asks for installation directory... 4. Asks which file types to associate OOO with, MS Word docs, MS Excel docs, MS Powerpoint, and if you want OOO to be the default HTML editor... 5. Java Setup. It'll ask what java software it can use to support it. Options are: Do not use Java or Use an installed java environment (Which for that I choose Sun Java and continue). The programme then installs. From what I've read there seems to be alot of confusion over how to get this installed, it'd be a big help to me and hopefully many more people if the required switches can be given, as well as details on this response file, and anything else that might be nessecary for this programme. Ok, I've stopped whining lol, now you can kill me
