  1. I do see your point. However, CVE-2019-0708 | Remote Desktop Services Remote Code Execution Vulnerability only mentions one mitigation.
  2. Perhaps it was never tested against 32 bit XP with POSReady 2009 patches installed. (Just a guess.)
  3. I also have that service disabled, but believe that "Terminal Services" is more directly related to the BlueKeep vulnerability. (I have avoided KB4499180 in order to retain build 6.0.6002.) If the tool doesn't work on Windows XP, users should check to see if they installed KB4500331.
  4. See greenhillmaniac's current post in which he advises against trying to slipstream (integrate) USB 3.0 drivers and recommends installing using a PS/2 keyboard. Have you tried that? I'm not the only one with such luck. MSFN has more XP diehards than Vista diehards, and many of them are still using hardware that is probably too old to satisfactorily run Vista or Windows 7.
  5. Welcome to MSFN sir. You are not the first to hope that the only obstacle to running Paint.NET on Vista was its .NET requirement. In May 2019 there was some discussion of Paint.NET in another thread beginning here and ending with WinClient5270's May 19 post.
  6. Welcome back @Werewolf ! Hope your post doesn't give WinClient5270 a holiday headache though.
  7. The screenshot in that blog is of a prerelease version, and was apparently borrowed from their 2014 blog post pertaining to Windows XP. There has been no prerelease version since 4.10 in 2016. The bad news in that blog is the link to FAQ about Extended Security Updates for Windows 7, where the following question and answer can be found under ESU coverage:
  8. Welcome to MSFN. I dimly recall that @greenhillmaniac was once making a custom Vista ISO but had a major problem with USB 3.0 drivers. Unfortunately that thread may have been lost due to a June 2018 server crash (or otherwise deleted) because I can't seem to find it. Hopefully greenhillmaniac will take an interest in your post. (I'm running Vista on 2007 vintage hardware myself.)
  9. Malwarebytes Free 2.2.1.1043 is also known for a fact to be working online: I just updated to database v2019.12.06.08. However, for 5 months or more @Queroexperimentar has been inquiring about something for an XP system that is kept offline, and it sounds like Malwarebytes might not be the solution. Maybe try Avast 18.8 (or AVG 18.8, which is practically the same thing), but I have not investigated offline updates.
  10. ESET's website is almost as aggravating as Comodo's website. As I mentioned in my May 6 post, ESET's early warning of end of support for Vista was buried in an article about the Windows 10 May 2019 update. As for Comodo, I mentioned in my September 14 post that CIS no longer supports Vista or XP, but the list at the beginning of this thread still does not reflect that. More recently, there has been a Notice of Comodo Cloud Antivirus discontinuation.
  11. Oops, it looks like there is a version 12.2.30.0, and there are 64-bit downloads (for the time being at least). ESET has no free versions AFAIK.
  12. ESET Windows home products version 13.0.22 have been released last month and support for Vista has officially been dropped: System Requirements for Windows ESET home products were last updated on November 10: I do not use ESET myself, but believe the final 12.x version was 12.2.23.0.
  13. NextPVR 4.2.5 was released last month. There was still no pronouncement that this was the final 4.x version, and NextPVR 5 (incompatible with Vista) is still in public beta. I'm currently still using Windows Media Center with TV Pack 2008 as DVR, but Microsoft is retiring its Electronic Program Guide service in January 2020.
  14. Welcome to MSFN resistor83. If you happen to have Outlook 2003, then the procedure described earlier in this thread is worth a try because 2003 used Internet Explorer's rendering engine. However it seems more likely that you have Outlook 2007, which used Microsoft Word's rendering engine and is therefore rather OT here. Perhaps Microsoft has added TLS 1.2 support for Office 2010, which hasn't quite reached EOL. Since this thread has been resurrected, I'll mention that there has been some discussion beginning here that VistaLover's instructions are insufficient for Vista x64.
  15. IIRC no NPAPI support (with the exception of Flash Player).
  16. Thanks for the suggestion, but I think I'll wait until January 15 to see how well MSE is working for you.
  17. I'm guessing your reason was related to definition updates for Vista's ancient Windows Defender. Are you able to install the latest definitions for Defender with KB4474419 v4 installed?
  18. Why did you have to do so my friend? What is the advantage for Vista? Can you also confirm that Windows Update is now dysfunctional? Any Server 2008 update released after March 2019 will change the build number (except perhaps cumulative updates for IE9), and the build number change apparently breaks Windows Update completely (not that WU delivers anything new to Vista in any case).
  19. No surprise. The reason occurred to me a month ago. No surprise either. I am not aware of any advantage in installing KB4474419 on Vista. The update may be necessary for Server 2008 users who want to use Windows Update until January, but Windows Update clearly knows the difference between Server 2008 and Vista. Edit: VistaLover has recently found that KB4474419 v4 makes it possible to install Windows Defender definitions.
  20. It looks like the oldest version of iTunes for Windows that is fully supported by the iTunes Store is now 12.6.5 (see can't authorize my computer error -50 and error 0x80090302), which of course does not support any OS older than Windows 7. So yes, I also think this is the end for Vista and XP: iTunes for Windows is now just bloated playback software. I'm keeping my installation anyway, but recommend VLC 3.0.8.
  21. The current issue with signing in at the iTunes Store discussed at itunes login and authorization error and elsewhere does indeed resemble the May 30, 2018 incident I mentioned above: Many older versions of iTunes (perhaps all) are affected, but the problem can be solved by updating to the latest version - which you cannot do if you are running Vista. I wonder if @i430VX has noticed this issue?
  22. I'm quite certain you are wasting your time. As stated in Last versions of software for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, the last version of Comodo IceDragon to support Vista was 52.0.0.4, which was of course forked from Firefox 52 and was only available in 32 bit. Here's a Comodo thread from January 2018 in which staff member Shane states, "We confirm Comodo Ice Dragon 57+ won't support XP and Vista." Regarding Windows XP, there's another old Comodo thread in which OP states that he couldn't install version 57 or even 52, so 49 may have been the last XP-compatible version.
  23. However on May 30, 2018, a thread was started at Apple Support Community by someone running Vista: Can't Sign Into iTunes Account (Error Code: 0x80090302). The issue at that time seemed to affect any iTunes version that wasn't up to date, regardless of OS - but the issue mysteriously went away later that day.
  24. Welcome back Osman Kovan. I can confirm that issue, but I'm not yet certain it is strictly a Vista/XP issue. There is a thread at Apple Support Community, itunes login and authorization error. Apple once threatened to cut off Windows XP and Vista from the iTunes Store on May 25, 2018 (scroll down to If you can't access the iTunes Store on your device at https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT208104), but that obviously did not happen. There was once an inordinate amount of discussion in this very thread, but most of it was lost due to an MSFN server crash in June 2018. This is mentioned at https://msfn.org/board/topic/175262-last-versions-of-software-for-windows-vista-and-windows-server-2008/?do=findComment&comment=1150847 and a few later posts.
