  1. Looks like you are quite correct. If that was included in Download links for all Vista SP2 32-bit and 64-bit updates from Windows Update, then by all means post there to alert others.,
  2. Might be an imperfection in the list of updates you're going by then. Gee, you could've got those via Windows Update a lot easier.
  3. @Dylan Cruz I think @greenhillmaniac might be the person to summon (but perhaps I just did). I know he has said that USB 3.0 drivers cannot be slipstreamed, so he certainly knows more about it than I do. (My only Vista-compatible hardware already has Vista, and I have an image for backup, so not really concerned about a custom ISO.) One hunch: Server 2008's build number changed from 6.0.6002 to 6003 beginning with April 2019 updates, and later changes included SHA-2 support with servicing stack updates, so possibly March 2019 might be an easier target than January 2020.
  4. Free or paid? If you want a free antivirus that works on XP, then Avast 18.8 (or AVG 18.8) would still be my suggestion. Official download links are at End of support for Windows XP/Vista. Kaspersky Free 2019 reportedly works on XP and might be as good or better (it's hard to be sure since Kaspersky only submits paid versions for independent testing), but is no longer current and I can't readily find an official download link (perhaps someone else has one). Neowin has a Kaspersky Free 2019 online installer (19.0.0.1088) but I cannot vouch for it. For those who are willing to pay, I don't think this thread has really resolved anything.
  5. Yes. See Windows Vista / 2008 build 6003?, which is not a very recent thread.
  6. As mentioned in the video, download links are in the description (click SHOW MORE). The topic of this rather lengthy thread is Server 2008 updates rather than the old Vista updates.
  7. If your system had been updated to April 2019 or later, then the build number should have already been 6003. Also, see this notice.
  8. Windows updates were still available at last report, but four patches need to be manually installed to get Windows Update working. WinClient5270 made a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtGYgxfpkeg
  9. @Dylan Cruz Welcome to the Windows Vista forum. The closest thing we have to that now is greenhillmaniac's repository at https://mega.nz/#F!txxRyLzC!1vBMGzMHiL864f3bl1Rj1w. Hopefully he will add the January 2020 updates to it and post here again before too long.
  10. Oh no my friend: The worst scenario will come later on when YT kills Polymer v1, leaving only Polymer v2 and whatever newer layouts they may have by then. Everyone should read Page 1 of this thread - especially VistaLover's posts - before posting (except kuja killer, for whom this thread is about whatever troubles him).
  11. I wouldn't expect a clean install to include any sample files, but a factory restore of a system that included WMC just might. I have now googled extensively in response to your question. As far as I can determine, Windows 7 editions that included WMC shipped with only one media sample file, named either Landscapes.wtv or win7_scenic-demoshort_raw.wtv (almost certainly the same video). Its directory would have been C:\Users\Public\Recorded TV\Sample Media. The only download link I found was broken, but there is actually an 8-second YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fx2JA7qRVXk. Does that look familiar to you? (I also came across a reference to a sample video named Wildlife.wmv, intended for WMP rather than WMC.) Your own recollections might perhaps be from XP MCE (which I never used) rather than Windows 7 or Vista. As I said before, I can't remember what sample files I deleted from Vista years ago, but your mentioning of Apollo and Vertigo does not ring any bells with me. All I'm really certain of is that I still have the Jewels of the Caribbean sample. Update: I currently have Microsoft/Rovi EPG data until February 19 at 6 PM.
  12. Because they are virtually identical. The final versions to support XP and Vista are Avast 18.8 and AVG 18.8 and have the same engine (see https://support.avg.com/answers?id=9060N000000TsFrQAK). As for the "discredited" part, I once again thank jaclaz for the link provided at the top of Page 16: https://www.pcmag.com/news/avast-to-end-browser-data-harvesting-terminates-jumpshot.
  13. Yes, my Vista Home Premium system shipped with a Sample Media folder in Recorded TV. I deleted all but one: Jewels of the Caribbean: World of National Geographic Special, which is slightly under 2 minutes. I can't remember what the others were, but I'm sure they were larger files. It's in the old dvr-ms format that was used by XP Media Center Edition and most Vista systems with WMC. Windows 7 sample media was probably in wtv format (which was actually introduced with TV Pack 2008 for Vista.) The factory image of a Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate system might be a likely place to find them.
  14. It appears that I had reacted to those old reports as well, and that WinClient5270 has already listed 7.4.2...
  15. Hello kuja killer. I was reluctant to reply to your "thread within a thread," but this thread's original topic has been pretty well covered (and btw it sounds like your greasemonkey script will soon be to no avail), and it so happens that I installed Sandboxie 5.22 about 5 months ago. Sandboxie is now a free product, and it is evidently no longer possible to register 5.22 (I've tried), so we will have to get by with the free version. My default browser is Firefox 52.9.0, which was actually the final version released by Mozilla in June 2018. (For the story of how a 52.9.1 tinderbox build became popular at MSFN, see Mozilla Firefox 52.9.1 ESR Works on Windows XP, If it contained significant improvements and was deemed ready for release, then I suspect Mozilla would've released it.) I did not install Firefox in Sandboxie (in fact my Firefox installation is considerably older than my Sandboxie installation), but of course I generally run it under the supervision of Sandboxie in the DefaultBox. I have never experienced your plugin-container.exe issue, however I am not using the Adobe Primetime Content Decryption Module. (I have the Widevine Content Decrytion Module, which unfortunately requires Windows Vista and higher). A rather important point to keep in mind is that if you want to make permanent changes to your browser, then you must open it outside of Sandboxie: otherwise your changes will vanish when the sandbox is emptied. Here's a screenshot of Firefox 52.9.0 playing your Rockman 2 Slide and Charge video under the supervision of Sandboxie (note the [#] and dotted Sandboxie icon - not to mention Avast 18.8 icon):
  16. I cannot dispute that since I'm not running XP and haven't even tried 7.4.2 on Vista, not having any adware to clean. I suppose Malwarebytes must be mistaken then.
  17. Welcome to MSFN Comrade_Hajji. Does ESET have official download links for 8.0.0.0 installers? MSFN members are often more interested in "last version that works" than "last version that officially supported" (but we still don't have official ESET download links for that in this thread either). I recently came across Windows XP and Vista compatibility with Malwarebytes AdwCleaner:
  18. You may have missed part of a very instructive VistaLover post on page 1: (A screenshot was even provided, some of which is Greek to me.) Browsers that truly do not support Polymer v1 include Pale Moon / New Moon 26/27
  19. Welcome to MSFN SandwichesANDMilk. I suspect that your hardware is incompatible with Vista, particularly if you have an Intel processor (see Compatible hardware with Windows Vista).
  20. You beat me by a few minutes. The link seems to display different messages according to browser version (FF 52 vs. PM 27 in my case).
  21. Yeah, I decided to test that with dear old Tycho (forked from Firefox 38 if I remember correctly). Is the situation the same for Yandex 17 as for Chrome 49?
  22. I cannot reproduce with Firefox 52.9.0. That is Chrome 49.0.2623.112m, correct? Have you tried with Yandex 17.x (which you also use)? My guess would be Update your browser for the best viewing experience.
  23. Welcome to MSFN mcho! This forum has long been a meeting place for Windows XP diehards, Vista diehards, and hopefully now Windows 7 diehards as well. I'm mainly a Vista diehard, but I hate to see Microsoft taking aim at Vista's younger brother (albeit rather ineffectively, at least for now). Are you using WMC for over-the-air TV channels, or are you a cable subscriber? Edit: I just checked for latest guide listings manually and acquired another 24 hours of Rovi data, i.e. listings until February 17 at 6 PM.
  24. That section (page 7) does not mention Windows 8.1, but unfortunately neither does this section (page 26): So the driver hasn't been tested on anything but Windows 10, but might nevertheless work on 8.1 and possibly even 7.
  25. Probably most of us have seen horror movies in which you think the monster is dead, but it suddenly rises and attacks again. I now have Microsoft/Rovi EPG data extending to February 16 at 6 PM, and I have no idea how this movie will end. (Annoyingly, it added a few channels to my guide that I cannot receive.)
