KernelEx 2022 (Kex22) Test Versions (4.22.26.2)
Goodmaneuver replied to jumper's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
*\mfc*u*.dll problem occurred after installing core.ini 12th month 2018 vs, the error I found out is not specific to K19 and occurs with K18. I have some other registry errors but not KEX related. Was working just prior to installing core.ini. WinMergeU (NOHEAP) uses mfc90u.dll and I am using a unicode WordPad (NT40) mfc42u.dll. EDIT : - This Word pad is not fully compatible & consider it experimental here and with later posts in this topic. Has anyone got a copy of Drugwash's KernelEx 4.5.2015.3, or know where it is located on MSFN, Drugwash? Xrayer? Jumper? I would like to see if netframework still is OK. Once netframework errors, I found it is impossible to get going again by replacing the files or re-installing. 1-1 drive backup required. My tests need be done again. EDIT : - KernelEx is not responsible for my DotNetFX errors. DotNetFX working with KernelEx tested latest KEX24 and earlier. -
>wouldn't it just make sense to run the 1.1 installer? Well it depends if you want to use the updated drivers or not, some mods are only applicable to later OSs so perhaps are unnecessary. Are you sure that it is mfc42u.dll that is required because mine only uses mfc42.dll which came standard with ME and 98. There is a better MMC than what is provided by the unofficial SP but it is still not fully compatible with the mmc files used in 2K ectcetera. Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Embedded (4.00.1381.204)\winnt40.1381.embedded.x86\CD1\drvlib\EMBEDDED\mmc contains version 1.0 (5.0.1702.1) infoadmn.dll imports from advapi32.dll need to be directed to mssadmws.dll. MMC requires mfc42.dll as well.

KernelEx 2022 (Kex22) Test Versions (4.22.26.2)

The *\mfc*u*.dll in KEX registry stopped working for me with Core.7z I use the full paths now. -
Starter, its OK. In options, interface select show information panel, show startup selection tree, show service groups tree. I should have said Processes tab the next along, Explorer.EXE will be there sort alphabetically by clicking Process tab straight above the list. From what you have shown I would untick the E:\ShellFolderFixULink startup unless you are using it right at the moment. I hope you have manual system restore point placed as it will be dangerous disabling some startup functions. Starter shows user startups see the left tree list. It is safer to just disable these. Sorry missed the processes shot. Explorer should be there unless it is not running. My system shows many more. I know RT7 means a lot to you but having exceptions occurring means that the program is not that compatible or has a memory leak or something the mods are vast. The type column is showing the registry program association used for programs so that you can easily assign file types to startup with a specified program. For example Video Clip could be assigned to WMP.
-
It might be best to have hidden files viewable in organize, folder and search options, while tracking the problem. Perhaps reset explorer first then check changes before and after inducing problem.
-
All of my startup programs listed in Starter can be disabled in Win7. I have only the monitor color correction tool I put on, - MCW, TV startup, and networking server, - a network to USB adapter. Starter did not list Microsoft startups or AMD video, only MS one listed was the shortcut I made to start up the TV. Most MS startups are services that are listed under services tab with descriptions. I can untick all of the startup programs if I want, make sure all sections is highlighted on the left. After starting windows, allow it a bit of time, do not start any programs. Then open a problem folder and close. Open Starter, click on process tab then click on explorer.exe in the top view window this should bring up a list of files underneath in the lower window. Click on a file in the explorer list in the bottom window then click on top File tab, there will be a save as HTML or TEXT. HTML looks better but will need browser to look at it. Do the same thing after resetting explorer remember to refresh the starter view with refresh button if it was still running. Compare the two saved files from Starter for files that are missing after explorer reset, this will give the clues to what starts up and prevents the deletion etcetera. Same thing can be done with services that become active before and after.
-
Best to find out if all is OK in safe mode first. Then unnecessary start up programs could be temporally disabled with Codestuff Starter it might be simpler? I think that Unlocker is ineffective if restarting explorer released the files? You can check the files open in explorer before and after explorer reset. There may be too many to narrow it down but it will give some clues.
-
Maybe a startup program or service loads a module that stays in the explorer loop of active files. By restarting explorer it releases the inactive files as the startup service or program has stopped in the interim. Of course if one file is used by another program then it or the folder will not be deletable but copy and paste will be available. Any active file will not will not be deletable and if the file relies on registry settings then the registry is linked to the file and reg settings may not be deletable for that file while it is active. I do not have any issues with Win10 x64. Perhaps a program was installed in the Program Files location that should have been installed in the Program Files (x86)? I do not know if it is possible but there should be no 64 bit files in the (x86) folder?
-
@jaclaz, I know that the IP address did not have the subnet /16. I was wrong, I did take a text copy of the ipconfig and each adapter had a different IP subnet 16 address 169.254.167.227/16 was one of them. Thank you for your help. @videobruce, the IP address is a side kick from page 1. I assume that the deleting will occur in safe mode after opening the folder? Right clicking excites the context programs like send to or any other program that has right click menu options and it is this that I thought you could look into and disable perhaps. If deleting in safe-mode is normal after opening the folder then a context menu program could be the problem. The 64 bit question arises in the fact that with WinME OS no 16 bit exe can be deleted directly, even in safe mode. They need to be placed in a folder by just left clicking and dropping in a folder, then the folder can be deleted. If right clicking the file, deletion is impossible until a reboot takes place and deleting is done without opening the folder. After a reboot I can do a left click on the file then Ctrl + C then a Ctrl + V into another directory.

I know that the first part of the IP4 address was 169 it had 254 in it and 255 I think, 252 was probably not correct when thinking more about it. I thought I had a photo of the screen but only had my Win7 shots which I used for reference purposes when manually setting up the IP. I obtained the Vista machine from a friend which had not been on line since 2015. At first the internet worked but failed after a Microsoft update. Auto updates at first worked but stopped after first updates. It may have been just as MS was ending support. I exacerbated the problem by trying to update manually from MS myself, at this time it was end of support. I then had no internet access after this and could not get it back. I tried system restore at several restore points, no good. As I explained on page 1 only happened to Win10 disc after having placed the Vista x86 system on another sata port. This was after Win10 was running for several weeks. I wanted to watch TV as the tuner drivers did not work with Win10 64 bit. I blamed the expired anti-virus program for the problem which I had removed. Perhaps the cable network card is marginal as the previous owner was using a bluetooth adapter. Internet speed is normal and working fine now with Win10. I do not want to try the Vista drive with the Win10 drive attached anymore.
-
As a follow up to my post above. The problem was the auto IP configuration logged onto an internet address similar to 169.xxx.252.xxx, I can not remember. It was pingable from the Win10 machine only. No local addresses were pingable. I manually configured the local gateway address, DNS server address (gateway), settup a fixed IP address and turned off IPv6. This had no effect on the problem, still could not ping any local addresses, but at least it was not connected to that web address. I tried an off-line anti-virus program and windows defender, no threats found. After a weeks grace where I did not have the machine turned on, the problem was not there anymore. I left my manual settings as they were.

uxtheme.dll from Microsoft Windows XP (''Whistler'' 5.1.2223.1 Professional Beta) can be used if this helps, may need NT6 settings like ROS files.

I am glad you asked this question because there is a difference and not full functionality anymore, I thought it would be the same. It will work if I setup LAN with the 2007 utility then rename folder and copy new files into the original 2007 location. Left clicking on the tray icon does not bring up the utility is the problem so that manual adjustments with the 2009 utility can not be done . /hide suffix on WG111v3.exe startup shortcut minimized utility to tray with 2007. I have tried both WG111v3.exe and EAPWake.exe with KernelEx disabled and still works. The Module32FirstW and Module32NextW are imports in acAuth.dll and acCTA.dll but these files are not used normally and the W can be removed to make compatible. The 2009 updated drivers have got a later dnsapi.dll Win2K file which is an improvement. Looks likely that the original WG111v3.exe may be necessary though for configuring the gateway settings. Previous versions are still available here https://www.netgear.com/support/product/WG111v3.aspx#download then click previous versions, mine was v1.1. Once connected to gateway the utility and EAPWake do not have to run it seems. There may be a problem installing on 95 as the inf says copy files98 here is a snippet [RTL8187B.ndi] DriverVer = 06/28/2007,1093 AddReg = RTL8187B.win.reg, RTL8187B.common.reg, RTLWLAN.reg CopyFiles = RTL8187B.CopyFiles98 The setup adds a small amount of reg settings namely Netgear and the usual MSI files for uninstall plus the files, if it works then the card should work. There is an error with v2.0 driver as utility version for 98SE/Me is supposed to be 3.6.44.314 but installs 3.6.47.314. By renaming WG111v3.exe and running v1.5 twice to remove then install into the same directory as v2.0 seems a good option as newer files were not overwritten and has got 3.6.44.314. If checking of files with Dependency Walker can be done, will help confirm support, needs MFC42.dll not sure if this was standard with 95. Testing was done on WinME.

256 bit encryption started with FF2. To turn off lower graded cyphers edit the security-prefs.js. TLS 1.2 started with FF24 but was disabled by default. Looks like Opera 12.18 is secure on all fronts except has not got TLS1.3 wikipedia.org/wiki/Transport_Layer_Security

Uxtheme from ROS dates back to 2006 I use 2010 or 2011 https://iso.reactos.org/bootcd/ . I have tried later versions of files from 4.11+ (not remember) but after a certain build the files do not pick up with Opera etcetera. ROS Uxtheme later versions have no extra functions unless you use Uxtheme from one-core-x86, 109 functions but miss out on a couple from original. If using Uxtheme from one-core-x86, ROS Uxtheme as UxthemeBase, it loads slower as all functions are active on UxthemeBase and the extra functions from one-core-x86 are only stubs as far as I can tell.
-
Well I don't know first hand but the 1648 error code was taken from their ini file after installing. 95 would have to have MS installer installed or just copy files over from Win98. It comes with dnsapi, once connected to the gateway the utility may not need to run.
-
@jumper, I understand somethings but is it necessary to have ieframe.dll as I don't see how it would load if it were called for? IE6 will pick up an ieframe ROS file, I have had this occur. The SHRegisterValidateTemplate=r0x78s2 r120s2 can you explain? Are they functions without string references ie N/A? Xmllite and normaliz should not be a problem should they? Use them straight in the system? I have had Normaliz picking up before.

KerneLex 4.5.2 KMP up to 4.0.4.6 can be configured to run with KernelEx4.5.2 XP settings some function import strings need renaming with v4. Media Info from within the player never worked until about KMP3.5 even on XP, configure KMP to be never on top. KMP internal filters, not LAV, will play most media except H265 without the need for installing others. Internal filters will show progress bar preview from 3.6 to 3.9 KEX2K settings. (depends on filters, 4.0.4.6 will too) ffdshow_rev3853_20110512_clsid_icl10 will work if installed with KerneLex 4.5.2 XP settings and ffdshow.ax set to NTSP6 settings. FFdshow vs 3853 should suffice but LAVFilters-33 is compatible with Win9x available here (but has no advantage I think, it is an alternative). If the LAV splitter and audio of vs 50.5 is to be used than the LAV video vs 33 has to has to link to the the 33 vs of swscale-lav-2.dll and avutil-lav-51.dll. X-Codec-Pack-2.6.5.exe contains ac3 filter 2.6, only thing to install. PowerDVD7's MP4 splitter only works with its own decoder and renderer. The spliter, sound renderer and sound decoder should have a 200000 merit as the Cyberlink PDVD7 combo does not decode all H264 formats/containers but nearly does. Without 4.5.2 Most players should be OK it depends on what codecs are installed. You need splitters, filters and renderer's and it is tricky to get it all correct so copy reg settings when things are going OK. The splitters have to be compatible with the format and encoding within the format and also the filters. WMP and KMP use DS filters and choose similar filters in the system. Some players are more fussy when choosing filters. I find WMP OK and here is an advantage updating wmp.dll via the update (win9x MP9 update M2378111.EXE) as the progress bar works on all formats. WMP opens in full screen if under folder options, file types, the file type "open" (what ever chosen) add the suffix /fullscreen, eg "(where ever WMP is located)\WMPlayer.exe" /fullscreen "%L" . One anomaly is that the video has to have a pixel frame ratio that matches the screen viewing aspect ratio even if the video has a rectangular pixel format. KMP will transform to fit full screen and uses anti-aliasing, all that is required is to get the best external splitters and filters with the right priorities. It is best to install only what is required otherwise there will be multiple codecs installed that do the same functions or in some cases not Win9x compatible. vp8vfw-1.2.0.zip has a filter that can encode quite well and quartz can pick it up on a decode but registry has to be set up correctly. GSpot v2.7a will check the codecs and show errors, I do not think it knows about reg settings with ACM. See this line, it is a decoder, VFW VP80 Google VP8 Video Codec vidc.vp80 0x00200000 QUARTZ.DLL --> vp8vfw.dll. 0x200000 is the merit or priority to use it. Merit, the higher the value the higher the priority, so this filter will only pickup if no other one is available or it has the highest priority. The priorities can be set in the KMP options preferences filter manager make sure the correct splitter has priority to suit the filters. Filters in red have a problem, registry error or file missing etcetera, try re-registering and resetting with wanted merit. WMP has to have file association setup correctly in registry same with most other players and registry settings are most important. Some programs do not uninstall correctly and wipe out full reg keys or more prevalent do not remove settings at all. If KMP did not install correctly say %s is displayed or the extender file was not ticked all needs to be done is to wipe out the full KMP2.0 or (KMP3.0 with KnlEx4.5.2) reg key. KMP2.9.* latest that works. Do not run the wizard just set settings manually. To make KMP play a DVD on loading add registry settings as an example where the location of KMP is Entertainment\KMPlayer. Copy & paste into an empty reg file and edit to suit installation directory. REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\DVD] "BaseClass"="Drive" @="DVD Video" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\DVD\Shell] @="PlayWithKMP" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\DVD\Shell\PlayWithKMP] @="Play with KMP" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\DVD\Shell\PlayWithKMP\Command] @="\"C:\\Entertainment\\KMPlayer\\KMPlayer.exe\" /DVD \"%l\"" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\DVD\DefaultIcon] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\AutoplayHandlers\Handlers\KMPPlayDVDMovieOnArrival] "Action"="Play DVD Video" "DefaultIcon"="C:\\Entertainment\\KMPlayer\\KMPlayer.exe,0" "InvokeProgID"="DVD" "InvokeVerb"="PlayWithKMP" "Provider"="The KMPlayer" For a Codecs pack that works with RM and MOV with WMP, StormCodec7 but take a copy of registry before and after. FLVsplitter from 2006 had the best overall player compatibility but is not critical unless using early Divx player. One FLVsplitter was not working though, even on other OS. ffdshow_rev2322_20081114_clsid_MMX.exe could be installed into the storm\codecs folder but registration will not be possible in a directory with spaces in it. A work around would be to remove the spaces and register then replace spaces then update reg InprocServer32 locations manually. DivXDecH264.ax available from Divx decodes most 264 encoded files. I do not know the latest that works but DivXDecH264.ax 9.0.1.21 from Divx 10.4 works needs msvcr80 and msvcp80. divxh264decoder820.zip is an earlier version readily available separately. For media encoded with MP1/2 audio with a bit rate that is not a multiple of the sample rate then ffdshow is the audio decoder to use. To get WMV3 to work with WMP first register wmvdmod.dll from WMP11 then replace back with wmvdmod.dll vs 10.0.0.4332. Also update wmasf.dll from WMP11.

KernelEx 2022 (Kex22) Test Versions (4.22.26.2)
Goodmaneuver replied to jumper's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
I can confirm that VLC3 works with XP or higher KEX settings when CheckRemoteDebuggerPresent = IsDebuggerPresent on a volume that has only had 4.5.2 on it. @jumper, I posted this to help with what Schwups was talking about on p36 where VLC3 does not work with K11 and above and that VLC does not work with settings above 2K mode. libqt_plugin in the reference back to other thread on p35. I will shift if you still think inappropriate. I do not know about the syntax error? I think it really matters when higher KEX versions are used and then the user goes back to use an earlier version on the same build :- (the registry). -
Some DX files need a minimum KernelEx setting. Games may not complain but certain files will. I will only mention the games that have KernelEx or Win9x specific settings. It depends on how Kernelex AppSettings is set up. Mine is not perfect otherwise I would post reg settings. It is getting better. Turning KernelEx to disabled or Win95 usually does the trick with incompatibilities. StarForce protection needs KernelEx disabled. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Game | Setting | Must Have |Controller| Anomalies _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Alias try NT6 or disabled DXmasf vs 6.4.7 Yes DDhelp may terminate after game, reboot to reinstate DDhelp (nVidia not ATI?) I fixed the card error reporting by leaving the wg111v3 utility running while attempting to delete the reg key of wg511v2 and then terminating utility deleting reg key and restarting utility. After a reboot though it went back to thinking it is a wg511v2, perhaps delete reg key of other Netgear card/utility before installing new one? Something to look out for. Device Instance Id USB\VID_0846&PID_4260\001E2AB46D3A Hardware Ids USB\Vid_0846&Pid_4260&Rev_0200 USB\Vid_0846&Pid_4260 Win95 compatible and the utility picks up MFC42.dll works with modern routers WPA2 see p35 on KernelEx 4.5 Core Updates (4.5.2016.17). I am using Netgear WG111v3 54Mb/s USB card. Now the drivers were not available on the web when I was looking for them several years ago. I have the disc that came with the card. The main part of the driver is EAPWake.exe vs 220.4050.1028.2006 and the utility driver uses WG111v3.exe vs 3.6.28.314. There is an anomaly though. The utility says it is Netgear WG511v2 and I am connected to Netgear WG511v2 54Mbps wireless PC card. The utility is not fully compatible with the USB card I believe as it is erroring with "get parent" regular and uses some CPU speed. Other utilities will not work that I downloaded they are adapter specific. The other card that works that I have and drivers that are available on-line is Netgear WG311T 108 Mb/s wireless PCI card. I can confirm that the drivers and utility do work on WinME. Unfortunately mine was damaged, 2nd hand, the receiver only shows very low bar graphs and performs poorly no matter what OS I use and it uses a PCI slot if USB is important for the user.

@erpdude8, @Nomen, I am running IE11, auto updates on. I made a mistake saying IE10, I did not realize until erpdude8 pointed it out, I forgot I was using 11. In the nVidia control panel there is a box to tick to disable hardware overlay. I remember the TV programs asking for hardware accelerated render or not. Windows has got DX, DD, WM and OGL rendering ectetera. The 7900 and probably the 6200 is capable of CUDA rendering but the Win9x drivers do not have it. I have taken a quote from chaosgroup.com "GPU cores vs. CPU cores While V-Ray Hybrid can render on CPUs and GPUs simultaneously, CPU cores and GPU cores are not the same. For example, a GPU with 2560 cores is not simply 320 times faster than an 8 core CPU. To determine the actual speed difference, real-world benchmark tests are required." Although Win9x driver does not have CUDA the older 2009 files may work? The player would probably need to integrate into the files? It probably would be best experimenting on Win7 first to see if it is worth using and to see if video viewing quality is OK at lower resolutions. Some games have CUDA integration files but say not supported. When I put the windowscodecpack (definitely not recommended) on, I did the experiment of enabling CUVID. It took the anti-aliasing away on playback and it was configured by the codecs pack utility to use single core. Everest Ultimate shows the second processor under the computer DMI but the name is Processor # 2 not E4700.

The hardware reserved amount could be the sly way of saying inaccessible RAM. Mine has 1MB of hardware reserved RAM and it does not vary. I got the unused (free) RAM amount from Process Monitor. About the 98 video card, webgl is based on opengl vs 2 my 7900 has full support up to vs 2 but my 6600 did not. I used Everest Ultimate which checks the system to get the results. A more modern graphics card usually has a better video output so the fonts etcetera on a high resolution large screen look better. Just to display the full screen uses up some VRAM. In the old days of 4MB graphics, a good driver would give the operator a choice of 24 bit color so that a higher resolution could be used. Moderner graphics cards should load the VRAM faster. I believe that the encoding/decoding is done by the CPU though and chips can be made dedicated to do certain decoding functions. A PCI hardware DVD decoder was available in the old days to play DVDs if the CPU was not quite powerful enough. Some encoders use anti-aliasing like Rududu which looks like it uses 4 x anti-aliasing, possibly 2 x during encoding and 2 x during decoding. KMP uses anti-aliasing, 384p looks better, tried the other players but they do not anti-aliasize. I think there would be no discernible difference with video playback by using the 6200. My DWM is using about 4.6MB, I do not use/view icons on the desktop and the machine has only 1 user, (administrator). In the Desktop I have the usual folders and some program shortcuts. FF if added all memory up looks good at 780MB it will depend on what sites are visited in the tabs.

Right click on desktop and select Screen resolution. There should be a text to the right lower section of window, mine is blue and says advanced settings. If you click on this it brings up the old style desktop properties (similar). My graphics is AMD but this should not make any difference? You might be able to disable the integrated graphics in BIOS? You may not have Media Center depends on what product you have, mine is Win7 Professional and perhaps this is the difference? If your browser is using DirectX acceleration you can install Fraps and see the frame rate, seems to only show with IE.
