  1. TechFacts 98 is a good program, I forgot about. It is share ware. Cant pay now for it. It just has a splash screen for 5 seconds. Readily available.
  2. HP System Diagnostics uses IoUnregisterDeviceInterface in NTDLL check your CFGMGR32.dll with Dependency Walker to see if it is highlighting this function in NTDLL.dll. It is a unique function and not many OS's have it. It allows the removal of devices in registry. Win10 has gone back to separating CFGMGR32.dll from SETUPAPI.dll.
  3. EVEREST Ultimate Edition is also a consideration as physical locations are indicated plus memory allocations and a lot more. It was not free and is discontinued now but has a trail period available here http://www.lavalys.com/support/downloads/ As far as knowing before the device is installed I do not know.
  4. I use CometBird 9 as it is a slimmer make of FireFox but GreaseMonkey is not compatible. I had made some alterations to the greprefs.js within the omni.jar, an attempt to make it perform a bit better. I have removed some mail and accessibility settings and enabled pipelining and slimmed up buffers and made JavaScript one bigger. There may be some mistakes as some additions may not work but I have uploaded it here, just unzip. It can be viewed and edited with a text editor. You need to install JDK and the JDK bin mapped as an environmental variable. The path can be set in AutoExec.bat where JAR.exe is located. The original omni.jar is extracted to same folder then the greprefs.js is swapped with my one. With the active extracted OMNI window open load Command from the run launcher. Type jar -cf ..\omni.jar * this will compress back to a new omni.jar. You might want to rename original first so it does not get overwritten. That's it, can test different settings if not any better just delete omni.jar and rename original back to omni.jar Remember this grepref.js is for CometBird 9 and if comparing some items are not in order to that of the original sorry about that. I have JDK 6U29 installed but will not matter what you choose that works. I am using these settings in my system at the moment, it will not check for updates nor have plugin out of date nags. If you already have CometBird installed then it may be best to start a new profile to eliminate user settings effecting outcome. Remove or rename CometNetwork folder in %ApplicationData% folder. greprefs.zip
  5. Miki I spent hours on this but am not a programmer see MSFN_Here & MSFN_Here The KEX delta updates are a bit tricky, make sure your KernelEx folder has these files in it. dd/mm/year KernelEx.dll 26/10/2018 4.5.2016.19 Kexbasen.dll 28/05/2019 4.5.2016.21 kexbases.dll 08/07/2019 4.5.2016.22 KexCOM.dll 12/09/2017 4.5.2016.18 Sheet.dll 24/01/2019 4.5.2016.19 Verify.exe 05/10/2018 4.5.2016.18 VKrnlEx.vxd 04/09/2017 Core.ini 11/06/2019 Jumper you mentioned from p40 >Regarding GDI32.GetCharABCWidthsI, the Kernel4.5.2 source code states in UberGDI.c: //NOTE: usp10 is probing for that function, don't forget to exclude it There is no import functions missing with DW. If KEX is disabled on USB10 then it would not work if it is probing for GetCharABCWidthsI wouldn't it? Unless 4.5.2 is suggesting keep it disabled otherwise it will probe for it? I do not use updated GDI32 from ME SP if that is what the UberGDI.c is referring to?
  6. Loblo you have something special with your ME OS. I was referring to missing export functions in Kernel32 being set to 'SetLastError' in the call file. KEX latest is better but I would still try it on a backup because I cannot explain why a program using NetFramework stopped working after swapping up from 4.5.2. I do not recommend to use Glarry Utilities because reg cleaners usually make errors eg resource files could have differing internal file reg referencing numbers between OS's and application versions. The context manager is dangerous as there is no backup ASAIK. I did the testing of Java7 and Burp on 4.5.2 then tried it on latest KEX.
  7. I did not link any functions to SetLastError you say you have not either? One setting I am talking about is list out of range, a divide by zero error perhaps in the program. Glary Utilities 2.30 when opening system info created the divide by zero error and list out of range. The ME SP1 did not have any errors when opening the system information in Glary Utilities. The device Info seems to still work without the SP but several selections with mouse are required.
  8. Loblo are you using a Win9x SP3 install? I found that when going from one machine to another the WinME SP1 had real problems installing the new hardware. I think it was the 32bit implementation of the INFs that caused the problem. I am missing out on some settings as I did not install the SP but updated files. It must be the system that makes the difference to make Java8 run? Jaclaz yes I did not click on the play within Win7 browser I did not recognize what I was viewing.
  9. I cannot render the image from Jaclaz's post with WinMe and this is why we cannot post properly on page 7. I posted this with Opera on WinME from page 6. loblo is there any files in JRE 1.7 that are different to get it to work? Are you are using a real machine?
  10. I have had trouble with Burp, it wont run any more. I can run Vuze 5.3 so my jce.jar is working. Java 1.7 does not work for me but the JVM.dll from JRE7 does work with the PSAPX file as I can run JVM.dll vs 7u80 with java 1.6. If I place Java 1.7 in my JRE folder then Vuze 5.3 switches to my other Java install; 1.5u22. There are some compatible files from JRE7 to swap to JRE6 but jce.jar vs 7 is still not running with this idea. There must be more to know about getting JRE7 to work, it does not make any difference what KEX version I use JRE7 does not run? Jaclaz I can only find a 64bit version of the program. I think that it is a rendering program and page may need to be downloadable first?
  11. >What is/are the error message(s)? :- There is no error message inside the window the title bar says KernelEx - Ntdll.DbgPrint DbgPrint is a function of NTDLL so why was it stubbed? Does it mean that KEX was just unable to report errors? If it gets stubbed again next vs would it be able to enabled with Core.ini? I have found that DbgPrint errors are probably from the registry. When I loaded KMPlayer from a different directory the DbgPrint error did not occur. That meant KMP file association, which it has many, was not directed to player in reg. I then fixed the DbgPrint error by unassociating formats then reassociating formats from within the player. There are probably remnants of Maxthon 1.6 in reg I estimate and there are a lot of reg settings associated to Maxthon. I think from my memory I have manually assigned reg settings across from Maxthon 1.6 which might be the mistake. I did read that there is a maximum of 25 programs that can be used in the settings but I cannot find the post, it was you Jumper. There is more to this post and there is another figure of 100 or thereabouts, I did not know exactly what you meant. Are the DLLs included and is this number the max number of loaded modules with individual settings? ACM files. why are they not included in KEX settings. (when trying to solve DbgPrint with modern HDD build) opening an ASF file with MP42 & 160 or 161 audio using MPLAYER2.EXE :- (which does not have DbgPrint error), loaded DIVX32.ACM as it did not have compatible audio decoder, DIVX32.ACM was not working though. I solved this ASF playback issue with WMP9 and WMP6.4 by using WMASF.AX from WMP11, 11.0.5721.5238.
  12. I have PowerDVD7 set to KEX disabled and I get KernelEx - Ntdll.DbgPrint error window occurring on startup and shut down. Same error occurs with Maxthon 2.5.18.1000 on startup and shut down. I do not know if or what individual module makes this happen but it is exclusive to these programs so far. Both programs still operate only occurring since last KEX21.
  13. Schwups yes or 8.0.40209.38 see page 35. 8.040209.38 from LH4093 looks very similar to 8.0.31113.25 but altered slightly so I use this now as msvcrt.dll. I must say the oleaut32.dll chosen by ME SP1 is not the one I chose. The SPs chose WinNT version which is bigger but I chose from Windows2000-KB935839-v22l-x86-ENU.exe vs 2.40.4532.3 and it is 616 KB. It is an important file & this vs needs a KEX setting NT6a or similar. I think your exit error is probably due to KEX settings but lets see what the msvcrt.dll brings. I have msvcrt set to *\MSVCRT.DLL NT2K settings on the drive I used for VLC3 KEX21 test. These vs work in Win2K and the Unplug or Eject Hardware tray functioning is not affected in Win9X. MSVCR70 as MSVCRT did stop some programs as well eg DivX player.
  14. Just tested VLC3.04 all OK. I did not take any chances and started program with Win98SE and I do not have any errors on exiting. I use msvcrt of 8.0.31113.25 in the VLC directory or as a system file, I still have libqt_plugin.dll as left altered 'IsDebuggerPresent'. I have VLC2 installed in separate directory with a renamed VLC exe so it is recognized different in registry. Icecast stations are found but downloading the play list does not occur with VLC3. There are many more than VLC2. I tested VLC3 with an unaltered libqt_plugin.dll message says VLC errorred in libqt_plugin.dll. It does not matter what mode VLC is using. VLC needs to be installed, unzipped from a reliable source or copied from another Win9X working directory. It does not play files if copied from Win7 I found? This was because OpenGL would not render the files on my system see page 43.
  15. If you can narrow down the DLL/s that ask for a later OS then that DLL can be set to 'Base (Kexbases,Kexbasen)' as well. For example an easy program to experiment on is MeadiaInfo as it has the EXE and only 1 DLL - MediaInfo.dll. MediaInfo.dll 0.7.78.0 and mediainfo.exe for Win9x.
  16. I do not think ROS files are to blame as winhttps.dll I just set KEX disabled to prevent function IsProcessorFeaturePresent from being called. Dungeon Siege 2 uses this file.
  17. With respect to KEX2016_21 with its core.ini, to get DOCX to work again use WinWord.exe with Win98SE settings. I did not alter settings of Wordconv.exe (vs 12.0.6014.5000 cert dated May 2007), still 'legacy windows 2000 sp4'. Later versions did not work with Win9x. This vs of format converter was no longer available from Microsoft several years ago. Also NVclp.dll has to be set to Win98SE for NV control panel to work and S3gamma.dll has to set to Win98SE for it to work. If readers are interested in viewing XLSX, if you can get a hold of the first 'FreeFileViewer' 2011 then it is almost fully compatible with WinME just the exit X in corner does not respond uses FFMPEG. CaelThunderwing; KEX reg configs settings *\D3DX*.DLL with NT2K settings and flags *\D3DX*.DLL decimal 10 should make sure the DX files work. I use xinput1_3.dll if this helps from ReactOS 0.4.4.0 2017 and rename it for xinput9_1_0.dll, xinput1_2.dll and xinput1_1.dll as well. vDbgPrintExWithPrefix is redirected to DbgPrint. I think they are stubbed though. Latest DX9 should install with WinXP settings from memory or use the DXSDK. Important to backup first.
  18. WinME could be considered with FAT8 it will be faster. It will work with small amounts of ram but of course depends on what programs you run. I watched analog TV with ATI All in Wonder and their software on P111 with 32GB of RAM. I did an experiment with 16GB and the TV program did not have enough free RAM to start up. Turn off system restore.
  19. About DMF "- download FDFormat (from »www.winimage.com/othertl.htm ). Under DOS (or the Windows 95/98 command line without the graphical interface - this is accomplished by pressing F8 and selecting 6 when booting) try 'FDFORMAT A: F168'. As is true with WinImage, FDFormat uses the BIOS. If FDFormat cannot format a disk at 1.68 MB, WinImage will also be unable to." Quoted from http://www.winimage.com/wimushlp/wini1a1y.htm Is there a reason not to split the data over 2 disks? SimplyZip can split it then use the emulator for example. Interesting reading https://devblogs.microsoft.com/oldnewthing/20050819-10/?p=34513
  20. Jre1.7u0 is the one that nearly fully installs from the MSI.
  21. ~?Aiko?Chan?~; I assume you mean the character code is not showing the character (glyph in a font). My received emails had some glyphs not shown. This can be a wrong character like a rectangle/box or it could be the character code as with your K-Meleon Html5Test picture. I installed more fonts to fix this but Marlett is different with later OSs than XP, so if the email or web page uses characters from Marlett for example, then the characters or glyphs might be displayed as boxes. If you are missing the font then it would display the character code but not the glyph unless the out of memory idea I had said happens. BabelPad is supposed the be a font editor and perhaps a new font can be produced or edited. I only know of Marlett that does not work in ME as I have updated ones from win10 as well. TTCs don't work as well though I am not sure as some were included with unofficial service pack but without the SP (not sure with SP) then boot logged text says failed. So we miss out some symbols from Cambria.ttc. Some fonts to consider updating would be symbol.ttf, webdings.ttf, wingding.ttf and seguisym.ttf. If charmap.exe is used as I explained 2/3 down on page 4 then KEX NT40 settings need to be set and msvcr80 is in use not mscvr90 on HDD I am using at the moment.
  22. OK thanks, I have read the unpack procedure and the differing psapx file . I will try the batch or shortcut idea but not for a month or 2.
  23. Yes I can install a very early version of JRE7 and then get security from newer JRE7 folder perhaps? I do not know how to make JRE7 the default system runtime though, as the full installation stops before registration from memory, perhaps I should get the reg settings from newer OS? The scanregw error: perhaps an earlier Burp version could be used since the proxy security is taken from JRE?
  24. I had to import a DER format certificate into Authorities and a P12 format certificate into Personal certificate tab for Opera. This fixed the need for manual acceptance of certificates but Opera's security is restricted to TLS1.0. TLS1.2 only web sites are resetting connection or bringing up the 'Received fatal alert: protocol_version'. Java's 1.6_31 security is dated 2005 which is before TLS1.2. If checking MSFN via Opera info, the security using Burp is TLS v1.0 256 bit AES (2048 bit RSA/SHA). Perhaps JRE 1.8 JVM needs to be used as the security folder files would be dated after TLS1.2?
  25. BabelPad is OK as you have explained using character map, but BabelMap win9x version and BabelPad did not show font characters using single font mode, this is not important just pointing out the phenomenon. Does the professional version of Burp need purchasing to make the certificate? As it stands without Pro vs, it works with CometBird but has no real added benefit. I have to accept all certificates (these are Swigger ones) with Opera to get Opera to work. SourceForge.net has got this Burp error 'Received fatal alert: protocol_version'. The HTTP://Burp/ home page does not open with Opera or CometBird? Also after using Burp in Opera and after a reboot the scanregw.exe thinks there is a registry error and chooses to install the previous reg save which was prior to using Burp in Opera and then is OK again. Tried this twice. I have found that the one character save from Word and Excel stemmed from riched20.dll not working properly. I was using riched20.dll Office 10 version which works on my other HDD (a previous build). I found that it came down to KEX reg settings and if various modes are chosen then it is best to select 'do not use in child process' even for DLLs. The error occurred after taking off the do not use in child mode. I have UNICOWS.DLL as 'disabled' and 'do not use in child process' in the KEX folder as a known DLL.
