Hello, i have board with only PCI-E slots, Win98 where installed / normal mode is running but device tree is pretty clean.. No any specific number in devices name, only generic devices.. I added PCI device bus device manually which usually generated other device detection, but only some PCI-PCI bridges were detected and its all.. Does it mean dead end for Windows 98 usage? Or could be device detection forced by adding other devices? Even HDD controller is not here at all, make sense to try add devices manually? I dont have any PCI-E to PCI reduction.. Im using only Geforce 7950GT PCI-E, which in device tree was only Standart VGA before i forced driver, i have tried to force Nvidia Unofficial 82 driver with Rloew patch, i dont get it working, unfortunatly, i dont have any other Windows 98 PCI-E GPU or device to test.. I theory G7950GT could work too, but i not at 1st attemp, sometimes help, try make it work multiple times, but i havent time today.. Here you can see clean device tree: PCI Bus device was added after times pictures were made but only 2 or 3 new PCI-PCI controller were detected.

Hell ou, when im installing drivers for Audigy there is a choice VXD or WMD, has anyone experience how is a difference, what is a better?

If you are talking about AMD970 machine, no NIC still there to minimize problem during testing.. I was trying combo RAM patch, no patched io.sys yesterday, it was that 160GB HDD crashfest.. It dont need to patch io.sys when im using you patch, i thing that i tried your ram pach and patche io.sys together and it was ok, from point of view booting, but crashing was same.. I wonder, if split8MB (im using because of Gb NIC boot), couild be used without rest of rampatch, with himem.exe 3.32, which i im using for ro too much ram fixing? I tried to find you what is exactly my io.sys magic patcher.. Its name as IO.sys patch to replace himem.sys by Himem.exe byRayeR.. compiled 2008, its using japheth.de HimemX.exe 3.32, but is renamem to Himem.exe i dont know why. I dont know if there is newer version but its working. Its all moding System.init - MaxPhysPages=4000;MaxFIleCanche=, MinFileChache =261120 ,32768 ChunkSize=4096 All instalallation without our RAM patch was stable - 0 rundll issues on 160 GB hardware, until i have intalled Nvidia drivers, after that Gaming was or not freezes, but right click on desktop stopped working (nvidia panel is there) and explorer started to do errors, but no so much as with your ram patch and no any data corupptions, registry recovery infinite scandisk restarts etc.. So summary is: Ram patch a non Nvidia driver - no go Rl Ram patch + Nvidia driver - no go Japhet Ram patch + No video - all ok, no issues Japhet Ram patch and video - no go, game are working, but explorer is broken (desktop is using NV controll panel extender).. So question is how much are Japhet patch, Unofficial Nvidia driver and your patches compatible and on which side is a problem. I can say how many thing are doing fixed nvcore.vxd and what could be Nvidia driver problem, but i just expented that machine would work all together, because patch which still led machine not useful sucks.

Maybe would be easier finaly fix my Conroe sata controller problem and i will have at least 1 Win98 ready (except microfreezing, but i will debug.. or reinstall it) Actually i have controler in Sata mode, AHCIBIOS in autoexec, controllers are in safe mode recognized as Ata106.. When i booting into normal mode, is hang on ESDI506 (bootlog), it have tried patched and unpatched version (by PTCHSATA), its same.. I dont know that to do next, i checked manual, i dont get what DISKBIOS is doing, i have only AHCIBIOS.

I dont know exactly why maybe because of NIC is not here, or second GPU is removed but i have now 2989 MB of Mem, so i hit 2.75 GB area, but on 40GB, im already limiting ram to 1024 in system.ini and behavior of machine is the same.. Good news is that except these rundll32 errors, nvidia and sata patch are installed fine, i didnt tested, because install something with half working explorer is problem, but i thing that game freezes would be not here too.. Im test it tommorrow. I dont need and want to do experiments with Ram patch on Conroe machine, because its its bit slow for every iteration but i have second Z97 and X99 machine and would test ram patch there.

I started to use you ram patch only because of boot problem with Gb Intel NIC, if you wish i can replicate same installation with Himem.exe and io.sys patcher to fix > 512 MB memory problems, im quite sure that it would work. Im at least getting better and in Sata and Nvidia patch instalation.. If is not PCI patch optimal, name it patchOPT is not good idea. In 40 GB i installed patchopt its same.. I dont installed patchopt maybe on X99 system, im not sure, i will reinstall it tommorrow, if will have a time. I can say that before ram and nvidia patch, i had stable system with VGA PCI Adapter and 100 Mbit Intel network, with installed ram patch i have everytime on lots of errors during basic work, its not classical Win98 lack of stability, system almost cant be used.. I both this HW only because i believe that our patches will work, ok i can live without 1 Gb NIC and i can go to buy 256 MB GPU.. Its same with my conroe system, i believed in your sata patch, so i have bought SATA SSD..

I previously used 1 partition HDD.. but i run out of HDDs, this one have 1 Win98 partition which ran well in the pass, 1 ntsfs and 1EXT4 partion, 1 fat 32 partion for data - last 80 GB, its 160 GB HDD, in other try with this MB i used 40 GB hdd only 1 FAT32 partions, but behavior is was same.. I dont believe that problem is storage.. problem is RAM patch probably. Its partitioned in Paragon HDD Suite 12+ . Win98 is first partition 15 GB at the start of disk. I have tried 4 storage device, on 2 of were other partitions and other OSes which runs totally fine, but on 3 of 4 even i tried (1 i dint tried) your ram patch these strange errors emerged..
-
I have tested new (non by your tutorial, i will do it) later AMD970 installation, with modified PCI.VXD i Nvidia drivers startet to work, but right after boot im getting those rund32.dll errors in NVCPL.dll, Explorer, Error, Systray error, right click always getting error (ilegal operations and ASM registry values) etc... But no microfreezes in the games - that was that i wanted to test. I used Himem.sys (original) Numhandles=80 machine:1, Sata patch installed and running ok. Problem could be connected with some data corruption, because i multipletimes tried to run Scandisk and im getting that scandisk was 10 times restart, but no visible file operation is running.. HW minimal setup no second GPU, no NIC, only one 1 Geforce 7950GT As i said there have to be some bug..
-
I got only one. In original manual, this step was optimal, im not sure, i need to check, i installed to many patches in these days. UPDATE: Sorry i have reinstall it, problem with memory card, i was to quick with its removal, when i was transferring data and FS was broken as it is memory card and only FAT32 recovery didnt worked. There is difference himem.exe and himem.sys, im using Win98 integrated himem.sys or himem.exe 3.32 when im not not using you ram patch, so recently i have used it everywhere. With Ram patch is hard to say which step when, machine is unstable as hell, im getting even rundll32 errors right after boot, something is not even booted, something i have to one, minutes use machine to get errors, but i from the start, i can see graphic glitches like that broken cotrol panel icon..

Win 98x command.com black screen, IPS LCD refresh rate problem?
ruthan replied to ruthan's topic in Windows 9x/ME
And magic solution, or only new monitor is can help me? I have old big CRT in the garage in 1 my lair, but i want to give it change, when Win98 would be up and running.. Maybe as in old days, i can try overclock monitor by powerstrip or something like that, i did it for CRT.. when 70,75Hz were killing my eyes and 5,10Hz more were nice. BTW what lines as this in autoexec / config, i never need to understand it, think about it, its Windows 98 related, or its Dos thing not related to my problem? deviceHIGH=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\display.sys con=(ega,,1) Other strange this that if not wrong is not working even with standart PCI driver.. -
I did that by the book, but im still a bit suspicious, because these commands not give me any success /error message.. and filesize is same to byte, now that there is modified date, but you know, something it should be double checked, NVSIZE checker is size, i would be for similar thing for nvcore.vxd Here is file which suppose to be patched: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2741044/Win98-onX99/SYSTEM-NVcore.zip If X99 is not supported, its ok, but i tested it anyway, i had HW ready for testing.
-
BootLog from new clean X99 machine, crash is NVcore.vxd, is there way to check if file is really properly patched, even i start patcher, i didnt get any message, only file is created and has same size.. Card bios is patched, driver checker is needed. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2741044/Win98-onX99/X99-BOOTLOG.TXT

Hello, i have annoying problem with i dont know from old machines, its that when i start command.com in safe mode and i getting black screen.. My have 2 suspicion bug in Nvidia unofficial drivers or problem with LCD of refresh rate detection, i heard that that Dos is written for 70Hz i have 60Hz HP LP2475w connected to DVI and Dell 2007PF.
-
Well if is not API or Library, but just source i would take too much time to study.. Is not code as code. Some C/C++/C# (if it can run in DOS, i guest i cant) Library for DOS registry work would be best, commandline utility is worse, but still better than nothing and if Library would have good quality, could be even better choice. I just need to get some values and set some value, there is not nothing easier in theory.

I just tested Nvsize patch with 512 MB Geforce 7950GT on other clean installation again CONFIGMG Windows protection problem during boot. I also found NVCHECK bug is not working - i got that NVCHECK not ok, when are more Nvidia cards in slots, even when card which should be checked is in primary slot. Sorry but errors but could simulated on multiple machines with clean installations and different HW.. This is very similar to what i did, i can do it again right by this tutorial, but if erorrs occur what we will finally do, what logs etc, you need? LoneCrusader: As i wrote, i already did clean install and its the same.. I have some experience and there sorf of bugs.. and i think, that i can say that some bug would be on clean system too. Better solution, is have some subchecks, or know what could be not on system XY. There should be some logging etc.. that i have this black box attitude, such reinstall it, maybe it help. I hard to believe that for i example have same or similar behavior on all 3 my systems with different HW and even with clean install, for example CONFIGMG boot windows protection problem, there are people with same bugs on internet, for Rloew is never seen bug.. I also hate these optimal patches, its too blackbox - manual says that on some machine, it could happen - would be nice to know, what is different on these machines and had installator checker for this eventuallity. or CD read problem, im installing now from USB stick, so no cd reading problem, image used image is tested. More technical: 1) Did you tested that Himem.exe 3.32 512 MB RAM fixer with Nvidia 512MB GPU and patches? 2) How do you work with NTFS and big partitions in Win9x? 3) How typical are my microfreezes? I had them on 2 new HW machine, i had them on Unraid machine, i until i installed USP3, on others machines UPS3 didnt helped.. Ok im going to reinstall it once more... 3) One clarification to patching Nvidia drivers, is enough to patch them once, or they need to be repatched for everytime before installation on specific machine and windows installation?

So i testest X99 and its booting (i did not tested more that that OS could be installed and its working after install, i already have 3 boards blocked by not fully working Win98 experiments..), so i on could run Win98 on 8/16 CPU and use whole 1 core, until will someone write some multicore patch for playing porn on second thread.. I used my quick and dirty Win98 USB installer: I had issue that USB flash which was booting in other machine, MB couldnt read it at all (Disk IO error after targeting boot from IT), regarding to scandisk on Windows 7 was fine.. I cloned image of USB flash to other USB flash, its know issue for me, some MB dont like too boot from some cheap USB flashddrives.. So its good have few USB flashdriver from different vendors.. Because board dont support USB device targeting (if it should emulate flloppy, hdd, dvd etc..) you will boot as C:. I have installed windows to c:\Windows, because i dont like issues with D:\Windows, when are probably some bootloader files copied to C: - which is USB flash and would be removed. After first reboot i got classic, not enough memory, too much memory problem, i so i have run io.sys patch and add himem.exe with 1 GB option and edited System.ini, reboot installation continued fine. Because I used SD card, its easy edit all on other pc, but you could copy file on USB flash and use edit, or Volkov commander etc.. MB- everything enabled(LAN,NIC etc..), only Sata and sSata in IDE mode and Legacy, EHCI and XHCI enabled. Used HW: MSI X99S SLI PLUS + 5960X - bios sucks, there is almost nothing to set it, but i bought it only because was cheap. Because bios was made by amateurs, which trying to ignore any request for Bios fix, in 32 bit mode is available only 920 MB of RAM - tested in Win98/XP/Win7.. Simply adressing area for some bus device is too huge so all adress space is consumed by it - my guess - based on device managed address space view.. Important is that there are other better X99 boards.. RAM 16 GB DDR4 3000 MHz Storage - SD to IDE adapter ($8 but still crappy)+ IDE to Sata adapter (3$ one) Mouse -PS2 to 2x PS2 adapter was not working, i saw in saw GB bioses that it probably need special PS2 Y cable option, i used keyboard only (with USB to PS2 adapter Zalman 600 something KB).. After isntallation i have connected USB board to USB2 port under PS2 - and i was really surprised that it worked and so i have connect PS2 mouse and i was ok USB to PS2 - adapter mouse movement somehow worked but position detection was wrong, so i have removed it.. 2x GPU(im usualy using this with Unraid..), 1st slot Geforce 7950GT 512 MB bios patched by Rloew patch, 2 slot Geforce 8400S USB sound card, cheap one NIC - any im waiting for Windows 98 compatible USB adapter and i there dont as far i know PCI-E Win98 compatible adapter and i dont have any PCI-E to PCI bridge Picture proof and list of detected devices without adding PCI bus device (after it will be lot of messy..) - im saying it clean HW tree: Except not enought memory bug, i didnt getting any error in installation, as in AMD970 installlation when i tried to use Rloew Ramdisk patch.. I patched io.sys and himem.exe 3.32 is maybe more stable for installation, i dont know.. Update: I have added PCI bus device, but nothing was detect, maybe because this board has PCI-E only.. i dont know how it works after and if there is some X99 board with PCI slots. I have tried to install Nvidia geforce 7950GT unofficial driver with Rloew patch, but i got CONFIGMG error, i really dont remember how i fix it lastime..

I can tell, that board is not ideal from OC point of view CPU power part has only 4 phases and SATA support sucks, compatibility mode is not working at least with my SATA III SSD.. Oterwise is fine. I dont care about Quad because it means 130W+ and i one thing is that machine is slow (from todays) perspective and second that is noisy - that were wrong for old school gaming. I rember days where cpus were without any heat sinks. I have wery big passive cooler on my Core 2 Dua and 1 Noctua 500 PRM fan is here only as icing on the cake.. Advantage of Asrock was avalways that they were able to bundle everything with everything together and some users really like such combos, from specs perspective there are nice, from stability perspective there are usually isssues. I have now one Z97 board with Asmedia Sata and USB controlerr, which are nice for Windows XP, but are not stable in Windows 7..

I could be always user fault, stupid user, it could.. As is said in one my favorite movie, lets for moment assume that im (user) totally stupid I dont like that clean installation solution, i use are usually doing it, when you dont understand something and you usually hit same problem late, its cowards way and its ultimate developers excuse before they are forced to fix own bugs . Yeah when i broke something, i have parition snapshot and i could go week back, but otherwise in have 13 years old Windows XP instalaltion, which is still fine, i have 7 years old Windows 7 install all fine... But i did it, reinstalled Windows 98, i didnt used himemx and patched and i still have error even in instalation, but HW is 100% by other OS, which are running fine, memtest is fine, temperatures are fines.. There is not way how to limit RAM is in bios or DDR3 512 MB stick to show that problem has to be in code. Did you tested Ram patch + Nvidia 512 MB card + UND 82.xx driver together? If not is hard to say anything valid.. I had quite stable system before i messed with rloews patches, i you wrote i removed all HW from Device manager, detection was fine, only problems where with Audio codecs (no usable audio device in multimedia panel). I really thing that problem is in specific hardware unsuspected combination or developers too old school attitude (he is so good that doing something which nobody else is able, but that lack of competitions, not need force him to make thing more simple to diagnose. Its a bit analogy what Einstein once said, when you can say it simply, you dont understand it.. Code could be very complex inside, but outer world user friedly solution which trying to expect problems are usually winning ).. But enough about it, i just need to fix it every possible way and see that this code is really working and i will write checker myself, i would need only simple hints, what is where modified etc..

Ok, but majority of your patches user i think want to use NTFS, so would be nice to test it and have tutorial how to use it. You can create it in few seconds, just install, here is patch: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2741044/Win98RloewPatches/w98-IoSafeModePatch.zip There is even some patched version for download, but im really not sure if it would be same: http://home.exetel.com.au/phelum/w98.htm I also using Himemx 3.32 , i know checked that there is probably new version, but its not related to clean instalation problems, same as io.sys.. But probably all users without your patch with 512+ MB, have to use himemx so it need to be tested.. No, not lots of programs, i checked msconfig and you have autoruns log, there are only few thing, there Nvidia drivers, Magic iso and Teamviewer 6. Do you use 512 MB videocard and Unofficial Nvidia 82.xx driver, because otherwise i dont wonder if you would be errors free, i never better that so unstable system, i style, when im affraid to click at something. Nvdia leftovers, i would be really angry, i will remove Geforce 6600 from other PC, i will use unmodified Nvidia driver to show that with proper driver it would be ok, there potencionally could be some left over, but i dont believe too much in this theory, its lousy one. Patchmem - you are right, i find this today. Letassing i dont use any partition manager for Windows 98 now, so we can ignore it,but dont need it, i will uninstall it anyway. Without patches icon was fine. Diagnostic utility - i dont see any problem to check if is SP3 installed before installation of patches or later recheck if patches are ok.. because could be broken by later SP3 installation, or other users or programs actions. Its like sfc scan in modern Windows 98 or Steam game files check, same principle. Be honest we are using Windows because we want to read manuals, its waste of time, when code is good enough.. Linux people often trying to keep thing too complex and user unfriendly.. and thats why Windows are still winning. I never understood this philosophy i always tried help user how much as is possible in inside problems, its better way is alway detect possible problem and predict and handle exception inside program, that add lots of switches would maybe user need to apply and maybe it will help him. Patches have some fixed errors history, im quite sure that i hited other one.

I you write more later, i only tested AMD970 + other storage to be sure, with clean Englist (to be sure) installation (Sata, Ram and Nvidia patch), but problems.. are still there some there are 3 main possibilities: 1) Im doing mistake when i applicate patches 2) There is still some Windows bug, which is unhandled by the patch 3) Error it patches itsefl So problem is not in my mature installation, i have got some rundll errors during HW detection (i will post picture later), often im getting multiple registry autorecovery.. Im not able to boot into normal boot, after Nvidia patched driver instalattion. My guess is problem with ram patch or nvidia patched 82.xx driver in combination with 512 MB video card. RAM is limited to 1024MB, no other Max*.. in System.ini, i have managed work with vanila io.sys + himem.sys. I dont know why on my mature installation is himemx.exe start trigger even in safe mode.. No MagicISO driver simply clean installation, only drivers and total commander and some portable versions of utilities.. Here is 1st instation error - ram patch already installed: After i have got few rundll32 errors, but installation finished, first part until first reboot is always fine. Now even im trying to reboot after Nividia proper driver installatim im getting in Boolog last line: 00165cd7 DEVICEINITSUCESS =VDEF // Split8mb is installed too. Main purpose of reinstall was chekc microfreezes, but it showed that there are more problems..

I assume that there is Marwell GB network driver, but even than, why is better than Conroe feature list is pretty same? Has it better bios, or what?
-
Remove it from where? Own risk.. its funnny i think is sideeffect of your patches, or in theoretically mistake it their use..
