second step would to be , of course , a test with another optical drive . also , for eliminate SP2 problems (in fact bios problems with SP2 and newest processors) you can try to instal an old XP or XP+SP1 instead XP+SP2 if work , you need an update bios for your latest processor you have.
-
you can skip any step there . all are options . in your case the Sp2 Slipstream chapter is recommended .

after my problems with this kind of stuff 60% RAM , 30% optical unit , 10% media . I don’t know if your mobo has dual channel for DDR but even if has, will work with a single chip inside the probability than you purchase 2 bad chips of memory are very low . so , you can install/test one at the time your memories. do not forget the media problems. (edit) cheap price=cheap quality .
-
For me , if memtest find some errors , then the memories are bad. if don’t find , isn’t relevant , the memories can be god or bad. The great test for a machine but most for memories is a complete install of XP without errors . with bad memories is possible to install successfully W98SE on a machine , but no with XP .

WPI not need yet of creating users account till now. I'm thinking about . (edited) WPI as an autorun_CD over an uA_XPSP2_CD .

KB831240 ?? Article ID : 831240 Last Review : August 11, 2004 Revision : 1.0 this is for XP or XP+SP1 ? maybe work the classic combination : kb8xxxxx.exe /q /n /z or maybe the path is incorrect . when you install your uA_XP_CD after the second boot , your files regullary can be in %systemdrive%\install\....\WINDOWSUPDATE\... other works ? can be more specific ?

Change requests - new ideas - wishlist
oneless replied to hasi001's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
In Search of Santa ...I'm wish also a grey checkbox for already installed software. The function to verify for installed software can integrated later... ...Freddi <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I ask myself the same question I find between various topic some things from some guys (I love you all guys) who help me in this. I mention that I use also wpi as autostart program for a cd. with a lot of appz and for now with the 19 hotfixes post xp_sp2 I double the lines for the hotfixes in config.js like prog[pn]=['UpDate 05 : KB885836 </font>=><font color="#00FFFF"> INSTALLED</font>'] uid[pn]=['KB885836_'] deps[pn]=['QCHAIN'] desc[pn]=['...'] cmd1[pn]=['%cdrom%\\Windows\\XP\\XP_UpDates\\SP2_UpDates\\KB885836.exe /Q /O /N /Z'] cond[pn]=['getOSver()=="XP" && FileExists("%cdrom%\\Windows\\XP\\XP_UpDates\\SP2_UpDates\\KB885836.exe") && FileExists("%windir%\\KB885836.log")'] cat[pn]=['10) Critical UpDates XP32 post-SP2'] pn++ prog[pn]=['UpDate 05 : KB885836 <font color="red">=> UN<font color="#00FFFF">installed</font>'] uid[pn]=['KB885836'] deps[pn]=['QCHAIN'] desc[pn]=['...'] cmd1[pn]=['%cdrom%\\Windows\\XP\\XP_UpDates\\SP2_UpDates\\KB885836.exe /Q /O /N /Z'] cond[pn]=['getOSver()=="XP" && FileExists("%cdrom%\\Windows\\XP\\XP_UpDates\\SP2_UpDates\\KB885836.exe") && !FileExists("%windir%\\KB885836.log")'] cat[pn]=['10) Critical UpDates XP32 post-SP2'] pn++ I have there 2 groups with the same content , but with 2 complementary conditions (FileExists and !FileExists=NOT_FileExists) , so only one of those two will be displayed in WPI. with two exception KB873374(GDI+) and KB890830(malicious) , the rest of 17 (today) hotfixes make a log like c:\windows\KB8xxxxx.log so , if exist the log I display one (with added string "INSTALLED" in caps) , if the log does not exist I display the other (with added string "not installed" ) with red_chars. I see computers with 1, 3 or only 10 hotfixes installed , not in my order, so this is very helpfull for me . more and more people going to conect to internet. and they don't know what is there ... Same thing we can do with c:\program...\nero.exe. but I can't know the version . maybe the one installed is very old, or incomplete, or damaged. so if I do not verify that I can say is ok , and is not so well maybe. So now , grey checkbox is not for me a necessity , can be the gray box a good thing !? maybe this depends of the needs. Freddi , how can you "read the registry for installed updates, IE and DirectX version..." ?! -
first at all , your UA_CD copy your $OEM$ directory (which include your app's) on the system directory so , your files must be addressed with corect pathes like I do : [GUIRunOnce] %systemdrive%\install\hotfixes\hotfixes.cmd %systemdrive%\install\main_batch.cmd %systemdrive%\install\applications.cmd without " " I make also this mistake . also where is run <<cmdlines.txt>> ?
-
You can try to re-download all drivers you need... my advice. check the manufacturer site. The OEM_CD(s) will restore the informations that was burned on them, maybe more earlier than your product version. I buy mainboards with revision 2.2 and the cd was for 2.0 or 2.1 because is cheaper to burn 10.ooo CDs once than 10 times 1.ooo CDs and the technical team provide 10..15 versions before the 10.ooo CDs stock be out. So , for me , it is not quite real to assume that you can restore your PC to the factory settings. maybe you can with the CDs provided, but it is possible to be other version that you get when you buy it. I seen that.

Version 3.5.1 Discussion
oneless replied to Kelsenellenelvian's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
I think I was not correct. I realize now that I hide a thing not with bad intention . My WPI is in %cdrom%\wpi\ , directory . In the downloaded archive of wpi_3_5_1 ALL the files are in the same directory including wpi.ico so , wpi.ico is not by default in the root of cd/hdd_path I move wpi.ico+autorun.inf from there in the parent directory and I leave all other files there because I want in the final CD to see wpi.ico as CD icon. and use the autoinsert of windows_XP_32bits (now) I change autorun.inf to point an \wpi\wpi.cmd not \wpi.cmd so can be that bad for wpi_3_5_1 ?? can be this the cause of an extra path there ? maybe no !? I made the same move in 3_5 where I did not find any trouble ? -
I think that my opinion and 99% other opinions are just subiective . I use NAV , packed in NIS , so I am happy with it But I don't test enough other packs , so really don't count my opinion. Also I know people who blame NAV200x only because they use another product !!? or because they heard from some that NAV is bad ! really ? on the other hand this days an antivirus without a proper firewall !??

Unattended?can it create partitions?
oneless replied to GLO's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I try this unsuccefully . so , for now , you can make UA just 1 partion over entire hdd , without asking you for also UA can provide for you the partitioning window where manualy you can configure anyway you want your partitions. I use the second way . -
up to 3.5 version , you do not need make any change. in 3.5.1 is a problem FOR ME with the pathes , wait for higher version or use now 3.5 just only make on the CD (other then UA) cd:\wpi\ (folder) cd:\INSTALL\ex_app1\...etc , (others folders with your app's) place in the root of cd cd:\autorun.inf cd:\wpi.ico , as separate files autorun.inf some like that [AutoRun] open=WPI\wpi.cmd icon=wpi.ico and in wpi application you point for an app like cmd1[pn]=['%cdrom%\\INSTALL\\ex_app1\\ex_app1.exe /parameter(s)IFneed']

how to make separated wpi cd ?
oneless replied to semo16's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)

How do you install hotfixes?
oneless replied to Maelstorm's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
I do not like "integrate method" because : 1) next "microsoft patch day" might remove some of just integrated patches ... 2) I think that installing method over a microsoft clean kit (sp2 included from THEM) is better than use an [alterate] kit ... ....my opinion only . -
I don't know if a way is better then other for me better is the easy way so , one single call with parameters is the most easy way . and I don't know what was wrong before but now work for me fine in WPI 3.5
-
I like a lot of this hot keys . I like also this in internet explorer , after pressing an F6 and a DEL you must have nothing in address bar press then CTRL+ENTER you will get there a "http://www..com/" address easy to complete for a new site you looking for

Version 3.5.1 Discussion
oneless replied to Kelsenellenelvian's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
hei man , I do not use absolute pathes . what for ? I use : cmd1[pn]=['%cdrom%\\WinApp\\app\\app.exe'] ? i think it is a small mistake there , maybe not in wpi.cmd , I use 3.5_wpi.cmd in 3.5.1 , same error. in my case %wpipath% was "d:\" , or maybe must be "d:\" and in fact is "d:\wpi" when lunch from hdd : %cdrom% = %wpipath% !? anyway , here , somewhere , somehow, the launcher , add an extra %wpipath% to my app's pathes. -
Version 3.5.1 Discussion
oneless replied to Kelsenellenelvian's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
yes , first time , I rename to d:\wpi . in the second test I use d:\wpi.3.5.1\wpi.3.5.1 ( had same problem) I use d:\wpi , d:\winapp\... for app's , d:\drivers, d:\windows\XPpro\postSP2hotfixes, D:\Games\... so my app's are not in d:\wpi\winapp\... 3.5 have no problem with that , work Ok with the same config.js + useroption.js. with no other changes , 3.5.1 say me that can't find "d:\wpi\winapp\nero\nero6.exe" , and it is real , because i have it in "d:\winapp\nero\nero6.exe" // cmd1[pn]=['%cdrom%\WinApp\\nero\\nero6.exe'] // (this all with launch from hdd, I do not test yet from CD.) now , must to put them in wpi directory ? it is a reason for that ? in this case must to cut "\wpi" from paths in config.js !? maybe I do not see something there . -

oneless replied to Kelsenellenelvian's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
ok . before , my path for WPI was d:\wpi I re-download wpi3.5.1 and i put it in d:\WPI_3.5.1\WPI_3.5.1 after uncompress wpi expect now my app's in d:\WPI_3.5.1\WPI_3.5.1\winapp\... look like we have somewhere an extra <<%wpipath%\>> in the chain of path of my app's. -
Version 3.5.1 Discussion
oneless replied to Kelsenellenelvian's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
why ? 3.5 work ok for me. thanks for. usualy I test my WPI fron my harddisk , most of my programs were in d:\winapp\... now in 3.5.1 , after I copy config.js+useroptions.js, WPI try to find them in d:\wpi\winapp\... where is some wrong , because in wpi.cmd i cannot see something ! how can I cut "\wpi" from path ? anyway , because I am here now and I see the effect I subscribe for a couple of dashes before - del desktop links - line in wpi.cmd . -

I use and try also this for NIS 2004 I cant find any downloadable updates , and is very unpleased to download 60MB from symantec every time I install this package. Also NIS2005 bring from LiveUpdate 30..40MB's but , I think that we cant find a solution here , because symantec do not want this . anyway , the updates came very fast from LiveUpdate. I install NIS2005 for 5..6 times and every time , I had the same error : NAV 2005 said to me something like that <NAV 2005 do not support this feature.??.. please uninstall and reinstall... NAV2005> ???????????/!!!!!!!! and for that I use NIS2004.
