  1. It's been over six months since I've posted in this thread, but I wanted to demonstrate that the current versions of Adobe Flash Player 27 (27 0 0 187) still work on Windows 2000. I run Win2K on my T23 with SP4, the SP4 rollup, and UURollup. The browsers tested are Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2, Firefox ESR Portable 45.8.0, and Chromium 34.0.1847 (the last for SSE/non-SSE2 processors). The installers can be downloaded from here (Firefox and Chromium), and here (Internet Explorer ActiveX)
  2. Beta channel was updated to 28.0.0.111 today November 16, and is confirmed working with Google Chrome on Windows XP. Internet Explorer ActiveX: https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/labs/flashruntimes/flashplayer/install_flash_player_ax.exe Mozilla Firefox NPAPI, and NPAPI for Google Chrome 44 and older: https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/labs/flashruntimes/flashplayer/install_flash_player.exe Google Chrome 45 to 49 PPAPI: https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/labs/flashruntimes/flashplayer/install_flash_player_ppapi.exe Old version uninstaller: https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/labs/flashruntimes/flashplayer/uninstall_flash_player.exe
  3. @Vistaboy I realize this is a public forum, but at what point do we hold people responsible for their own actions? Are we going to dictate what people are going to run on their computers? Are we going to outlaw classic cars because they don't have seatbelts? A car without seatbelts is more likely to kill you than Windows XP without updates. People need to make decisions without hand holding. They are not absolved of personal responsibility just because information is public. We are turning into a nanny culture. It's a free country here in the US, and people need to realize there are consequences for everything you do in life.
  4. @Vistaboy It all comes down to the user. A user has complete control over the vulnerabilities of a machine. I can infect a Windows 10 machine in under 5 minutes. Just like there is no guarantee against terrorism, no version of Windows is 100% secure.
  5. Audacity 2.1.3 is supposedly the last "supported" version on Windows XP, however, nothing prevents the latest Audacity 2.2.0 from working. Audacity 2.2.0 works just fine on Windows XP SP3. http://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/#sysreq
  6. AOL Shield was updated to version 1.0.0.35 on November 1. Interestingly, there is no update mechanism in the Help menu. In Firefox, clicking on Help > About automatically invokes an update check. It appears AOL Shield updates in the background.
  7. @roytam1 I agree that with shared computers and multiple users, antivirus is a good idea, because different users have different habits that could compromise security. However, I also believe that antivirus provides users with a false sense of security. People with up to date systems with Microsoft patches may behave more recklessly online, thinking that they are invincible or protected against all exploits. Those of us who continue to use Windows XP and other "unsupported" operating system likely take better precautions, because we understand the well-documented and potential vulnerabilities of running "unsupported" operating systems. Also, running and maintaining legacy systems in this day and age usually requires a bit of know how and technical knowledge, but that condition is not necessary for people who buy machines off the shelf. Anyone can buy a Windows 10 machine off the shelf, and they could be completely technologically illiterate.
  8. I am pleased to announce that I have tested the first beta for the next major release of Adobe Flash Player 28. It is tested and working on Windows XP with Internet Explorer 8, Google Chrome 49, and Mozilla Firefox 52.4.0 ESR. It was released today, November 9, 2017: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer.html Internet Explorer ActiveX: https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/labs/flashruntimes/flashplayer/install_flash_player_ax.exe Mozilla Firefox NPAPI, and NPAPI for Google Chrome 44 and older: https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/labs/flashruntimes/flashplayer/install_flash_player.exe Google Chrome 45 to 49 PPAPI: https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/labs/flashruntimes/flashplayer/install_flash_player_ppapi.exe Old version uninstaller: https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/labs/flashruntimes/flashplayer/uninstall_flash_player.exe
  9. @spacequakes @Just_AHD If you need the original installer files for Microsoft Security Essentials 4.4.304 on Windows XP, they are on my FTP. You can also get them from the Internet Archive. AMD 64 bit installer: http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp3/EOL/mse/amd64/MSEInstall.exe or https://web.archive.org/web/20131114141026/http://download.microsoft.com/download/A/3/8/A38FFBF2-1122-48B4-AF60-E44F6DC28BD8/ENUS/amd64/MSEInstall.exe Intel 32 bit installer: http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp3/EOL/mse/x86/MSEInstall.exe or https://web.archive.org/web/20131121010912/http://download.microsoft.com/download/A/3/8/A38FFBF2-1122-48B4-AF60-E44F6DC28BD8/ENUS/x86/MSEInstall.exe
  10. If market share was the only thing that mattered, then all developers should drop Mac OS X support immediately. Windows XP and all combined versions of Mac OS X (10.12, 10.11, 10.10, 10.9, 10.8, 10.7, 10.6, 10.5, etc) have the same market share. Both Mac OS X and Windows XP each hold about 6% of the OS market share. Mac OS X 10.12, the newest version, only has about half the users of Windows XP (3.34% vs 6.47%)
  11. Windows XP market share rose again in October: NetMarketShare: Windows 10 sees its slowest growth in months Meanwhile, Windows 7 still holds half of the market with just over two years to go until support ends. I think Windows 7's sheer market share is going to force Microsoft's hand to extend Windows 7's support. If not, we will have a lot of unsupported corporate machines on the Internet come January 2020.
  12. @JodyT I appreciate your contributions to this forum, and I believe everyone else here does as well. I have enjoyed your posts, and I hope no one here has made you feel like your opinions don't matter. What I am trying to say is that I don't think it is productive for anyone to criticize other people for using the operating system of their choice. All it does is incite discomfort and disagreement, fanning the fire. You won't find me in the Windows 10 forum bashing it, even though I think it is a steaming pile of crap. There are people that like Windows 10, and I will respect their free will to use it. Have a good day!
  13. @roytam1 Thank you. I'm also mirroring in my XP end of life directory at http://sdfox7.com/xp/sp3/EOL/palemoon/
  14. So I've read some of the posts on this thread, and my two cents is. Going onto a Windows XP thread to "espouse" the reasons people should upgrade to a new version of Windows is trollish. It's like going to a classic car meet for '50s Corvettes or '60s Mustangs, and telling people they should upgrade to the latest model. It's ridiculous because the advice is unsolicited and unwanted.
  15. @i430VX Naturally, my next question is, why is it based on 52.3 and not 52.4? AOL Shield is digitally signed October 2, which is about a week after Firefox 52.4 was released.
  16. @i430VX The program indeed works on XP. However, the link you posted above only downloads a stub of the installation program. The link I provided downloads the complete installation program (currently version 1.0.0.29: http://web1.sentrybay.com/internalbuilds/aoldial/AOL Shield 1.0.0.29 Setup.exe) This is basically a clone of Firefox, but it has a "dock" in the upper left of the browser that has quick shortcuts for mail, news, search, and benefits. It's nice if you want quick access to mail, at least.
  17. This browser does not work for me at all. Attempting to use New Moon 27.6.0 fails and WinRAR spits up a bunch of extraction errors. This is on my T41 with XP SP3:
  18. This is the third Flash Player update in the month of October (27.0.0.159, 27.0.0.170, 27.0.0.183) Is anyone over at Adobe actually testing these updates before they release them? Or are they too busy playing with their fidget spinners?
  19. AOL users: you may be aware that AOL recently discontinued free access with the traditional AOL client. The only way to access mail for free is to access it using a web browser and going to aol.com. To continue using the client, you must upgrade to AOL Desktop Gold and pay a low monthly fee. However, AOL has now released AOL Shield (free) which is a "optimized browser for users on dial-up internet connections and/or older operating systems. AOL Shield is optimized for older operating systems like Windows XP and Windows Vista. It also has features that enable it to run on computers with a dial-up internet connection." For more information or to download, see this page: AOL Shield

  21. I don't see this mentioned anywhere, but CPU-Z 1.78 was released for Windows 98 in November 2016. Considering the current version is 1.81, this isn't that old at all. Windows 98 support had been dropped with CPU-Z 1.57, but was revived with CPU-Z 1.76 in April 2016: https://www.cpuid.com/news/44-cpu-z-1-76-broadwell-e-and-windows-98.html https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html (direct download http://download.cpuid.com/cpu-z/cpu-z_1.78-win98.zip)
  22. The latest 7-Zip 17.01 beta from August 28, 2017 still works on Windows XP. It runs on my ThinkPad T23 with Pentium III, so there is clearly no SSE2 dependency. There is no XP Service Pack 3 dependency either, because I have tested it on SP2.
  23. Good morning, it's Patch Tuesday! Adobe Flash 27.0.0.159 has been released. Tested and working on Windows XP. Internet Explorer ActiveX: http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/pdc/27.0.0.159/install_flash_player_ax.exe Mozilla Firefox NPAPI, and NPAPI for Google Chrome 44 and older: http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/pdc/27.0.0.159/install_flash_player.exe Google Chrome 45 to 49 PPAPI: http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/pdc/27.0.0.159/install_flash_player_ppapi.exe Old version uninstaller: https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/labs/flashruntimes/flashplayer/uninstall_flash_player.exe
  24. I'm a couple months late, but just noticed the latest version of CoreTemp32 still works on XP. I'm running it on my ThinkPad T23 which means it also still works with SSE processors, maybe older ones as well. It's a handy program with a small footprint. CoreTemp32 1.10.2, released August 7, 2017. You can download the standalone ZIP file by clicking on "More downloads" below the Download button: http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/
