  1. well that is your decision.. windows 7 will be out in a year or so.
  2. zxian, you need to take into account the level of knowledge that this person has. yes, terminal is the best way to go but if someone has no idea what he is doing in the terminal, it can take forever to get things done, you can make some pretty big mistakes, and you can get very frustrated. i would hope that some GUI programs don't mess up some files but i guess that we should research the programs we install to make sure that they are free of bugs.
  3. i believe that VI was the worst one
  4. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16824994001 i have 2 of these for my 24" lcds, they work nicely
  5. cool, you finally got yourself a nice sized lcd have fun with it.
  6. it also has good reviews for music and movies..
  7. cpuz can do that..
  8. matrix never seemed reliable to me and i guess that this is why. hopefully you get everything back. i would say just to stick to one things or the other, don't mix RAID types on two drives.
  9. get a linux server. unless you plan on coding in ASP i don't see any point to getting a windows server. to get the full screen you would want to use CSS. you can start out with a dreamweaver template if you want to.. honestly just google about this, there is plenty on it.
  10. "It's PCI express type and needs additional power supply (standard FDD cable)." i guess i esd confused on if you have the FDD cable plugged in or not. rereading you post sounds like you did plug it in, sorry about the confusion.
  11. i like all of them, I through V. i saw I again the other day.
  12. give it more power then..
  13. i have to suggest the auzentech x-fi prelude. it has the x-fi chip meaning it can do EAX5, the Xonar cannot. The auzentech is also very good for music and movies.
  14. i like it good job
  15. i would go with godaddy either way b/c say you want to change your hosting down the road, all you would have to change is the nameservers for the domain name. if you get a free domain name for whatever host you go with, then you might as well get the free domain name hosted through them.
  16. No. http://www.tomshardware.com/news/intel-roa...lease,6393.html They're just now discontinuing the E6750. Look at the life its had. I don't expect them to kill of Core2Duo until at least the end of 2009. ya from what i remember reading there will only be a very small percentage of i7 being produced six months from now.
  17. a defective motherboard is also my guess right now as well, hopefully he has a pc speaker.. i need to know if its beeping
  18. ya i know, you love it so far don't you?? they are pretty good for shared hosting but every shared host oversells. for some of the sites i have i need a fast cpu and lots of ram, i have some pretty large mysql databases.. now i have a dedi with a harpertown and 6gb of ram
  19. well how good are you with linux and using the terminal? if you are not that good then i would highly suggest a GUI. i would have to assume that you are not all that good at it since you are asking about it. it can be a real pain having to type everything into the terminal instead of having a nice easy pretty GUI to play with, so I guess that you should get a distro with a GUI. i am personally using Ubunto Desktop on my home server, then I added the server features that i wanted through apt-get then i have CentOS on my dedi web server which is hosted at a server company, so if i ever run into problems they will be glad to help me.
  20. one of my clients uses namecheap, but he doesnt really use any of the features for it.. what exactly is dynamic IP updating? for a domain name to work all you have to do is point it to a nameserver. that is unless you are setting that domain name up to be a nameserver in itself, in which case all you have to do is change the ip address for it.
  21. well anhosting also oversells. pretty much every shared hosting company oversells. for a bandwidth intensive site i would not suggest shared, maybe start off at a low end VPS if at all possible. what exactly were you looking to pay per month? 5,10,15,20??
  22. do you have a speaker hooked up to it to hear for diagnostic sounds? what sounds do you get when you remove the ram?
  23. no, its just that i hate using normal rags on screens.
  24. im not meaning to flame you at all and i apologize if i came across that way. it's just that you are making it sound like dreamweaver is bad. for someone who is just starting to code website then notepad is fine and if the site is only a few pages then that is fine, but when working with large sites with hundreds or thousands of files things can become a real pain. as you said it is possible to use other tools and people have been doing it since the beginning of time, but dreamweaver is just a much more efficient way of doing so. so when you ssh into the server, are you editing the files right through the terminal window? i know people that do that and it takes them a hell of a long time to do things. as far as things you say that dreamweaver does not come with, i dont think i made any point at saying that dreamweaver can build everything you want into a website. you have to do that yourself and i do that myself. so basically to summarize my point, dreamweaver is a very efficient tool for building websites.
  25. ah i did not know that, thanks
