ya i had him remove the battery for when he was taking apart the R51, so its was about 30min without the battery in, i was on the phone with him. but it still didnt boot up. i am not sure of the current status of it.

i have not tried replacing it yet, the battery for the R51 is really strange, its not the normal one. for the A31 when i started is up, the lights for the power,hdd,etc all went on, then a second later only the power light was still on. so there is no hdd activity meaning its not booting up windows.

this is VERY strange. i time track meets along with one of my coaches.. my coach has 2 laptops that he uses to time with. both have XP SP2 on them. last night he ran a windows security update, an IBM A31, he left it to do the update, came back and the computer had a blank screen. he tried to restart it but no matter what, blank screen, doesnt even POST. so today we had to run the meet with one laptop, an IBM R51. it ran perfect for the whole meet. there was a rainstorm but we were under a tent, a little bit of water got onto the keyboard but just a little. it has had worse before. so when my coach got home after the meet, he goes to turn his R51 on and was going to upload the meet results to his website, but as he was using Firefox, the computer all of a sudden BSODed. and now it also does not POST. occasionally he would get 4 medium/long beeps coming from the R51. i had him take out the CMOS battery with no success. He has not done anything with the A31 yet. i was realling hoping that resetting the CMOS battery on the R51 would work but it didnt.. what else can we possibly do? we need both of these laptops for timing meets and without them we're pretty much screwed, especially my coach. it is just so odd that both of them are experiencing the same type of hardware problems in the same day. both of the laptops were hooked up to the same network last night, my coach's home network. i guess there could be some sort of a hardware virus but what! and how would i go about fixing it...

for video card both nvidia and ati are just about to release their next gen cards, so wait a few more weeks.

ya, there are plenty of benchmarks which show that 1GB is useless.

my current remote that i got with my ATI tv tuner does not work well. only a few buttons on it actually work. does anyone know how to program the buttons? if not, is there a superior alternate?

my school has a bunch of audio books which they want to put on the school's web server in order to stream it over the internet. now say we have 5 copies of audio book A. according to the head of the IT dept, we can have up to 5 simultaneous streams of audio book A. i told him that i do not think this is legal since we would be streaming copyrighted material. so does anyone know what the law is on this?

i believe that what he is talking about is this: the retail vista comes with 2 disks, one 32bit disk and one 64bit disk. he managed to extract the data off of both disks and now wants to combine both 32bit and 64bit to fit onto one disk.

how do i adjust the volume of the system beep or any other system sound? all of the sounds under the sounds tab play at a very low volume. i need to put the system volume at 100% to be able to hear them. and if it is noisy around me i can't hear it at all. i would like to be able to blast the beeps as loud as i possibly can.. anyone know what's going on with this?

well you cant even take a full original vista disk and vlite sp1 into it, ive tried it.

ya, vlite wont work here unless you have an original vista sp1 disk. so you are outta luck with vlite. sp1 is worth it tho.

you lucky son of a b***h! if you dont overclock the hell outta that thing then i will have to hunt you down and kick your a** for ram i like the mushkin redline 2x2GB kit, i have a set for myself, real high clockers. for cooling, come on man, get water for the proc! lol. if you really want air then the thermalright ultra extreme for video get 8800GTS G92 or 8800GT G92 unless you want to wait for the 9800GT to come out whenever that is your psu is good cant comment on an x48 mobo at the moment for tv tuner, i chose the ati 650 pci-e, works very well for me now go have some fun

you've read? it's a fact stupid nvidia is waiting for ati to release their next monster. the whole 9x00 thing is just marketing, hoping to get more money out of us. personally i think they should have made all G92's the 9x00 and then their next beast should be some new name. i personally want to see how 9800GTX SLI is.

my 22" is getting to small for me, i want something bigger but no desk space i also heavily multitask, i usually have multiple browsers, dreamweaver, and photoshop open all at once. maybe some words docs and excel sheets too.
