yes you are alowed to downgrade your windows to any version below it: in basic: windows xp home can only downgrade to windows ME/98/95 windows xp pro also to windows 2000 and NT4 (workstation) windows xp mce - like xpro (and ofcaurse to xp pro itself...).

cant wait to get my hands on an nlite-ed vista x64 version... - there is sooo mutch to rip out, and you know what (if you use the rc2 key (takes a litlle extra modifications), youl have just a bit longer than 30day's te test vista in the end (i at least) will deside whether to buy vista, also based on the question if ill be-able to nlite' it enought...
-
the late response tels me exacly what i suspected not a likely chance to get an answer, - if youd know windows youd know that the boot perations are downwards compatible - the problem is, that this sofware itsn't opnsource, so there is no darn way to find out, whats doing to an install source ... so also no way (other than testing whitch takes lots of valued time), to check... in the mean while i have desided just to stay away from this app, by the way you anoying yank, if there is 1 nation in this world that doesn't genaraly speak good english it is in the USA... even while its your native language not mine... so dont even start on that, as you couldn't even begin to learn dutch and german in double the time it took me to learn english.

how to make a muliboo cd with XP Pro (NL) + (UK) + Windows 2000 it doesn't say mutch about what the best way is, (at least i dont want the winnt.exe way) but some say you should do something with chain (whatever) and others say you must use isolinux (whatever) ... someboddy just tell me whats the best way) if use nlite to slipstream SP's make-unattend and remove some unwanted stuff. - for both versions of xp i want the same $oem$ folder and the same BTS DriverPacks

as soon as i'v tested witch of the 5.1 versions is best, i will mention it, and seed it as mutch as i can... thanks Ryan For hosting .....

About this project beeing dead, - it may be so, but it would still save many users a lot of hotfixes to download, if they'd first download this package... because i value this work so mutch, i will host 1 single version of gurglemeyer's SP (the lastest), if anyone would be able to make a package of the remaining (current) security fixes, it would be valued verry mutch. hoverever because i have bigger bandwidth problems than warr does (and i can only host about 3gb each month), this file will only be uploaded on request (you can request it via this forum in a PM) also i will only upload it 1 time per registered msfn user only (burn it directly to a disk and dont lose it)... hope this helps....

Lol this isn't a Mobo thing, - this is a windows thing, due (probebly) to the late installation of a common svga driver... in linux (if your kernel supports it) you can load 16bit color images verry quick after al the IRQ paths have been set...

the tiltle actualy says it all, would it be possible to make xpize a part of the OS, > (If not already implemented), add it to the conf panel > create an xpize-demon (that is a windows service that wil on certain events refresh / repatch resources but only after they have changed - but run this as a protected windows service) > make it so that it isn't an aplication, not un-installeble (not by default anyway), no startmenu stuf, etc. **maybe this: http://www.sw4me.com/wiki/Winserv helps....

my only 2 drawbacks are flitsimulator (there is an open flight sim game and the MS version DOES run in cedega) and dreamweaver ( good point, i know there is supposed to be crossover office to support stuff like DW, but i havn`t tried it....

btw the E6600 is quick as watter - on air it clock up to 3.6ghz stable (if you buy good spreaders and a powerfull cpu-cooler (you may want to install casefans though... but id recomment to take it a little slower though... (have seen it run at over 4ghz, (and a dutch tweaker has poblished a score over 5ghz .... i think your hardware choice aint bad though... but the 6700 is overkill

time to reply... actualy this article on: win super site, to me, seams a whole lot of MircroSoft's BULL*crap, lol there ar 3 kinds of lies, "Lies, D*mn Lies, and statistics" of wich the last is Microsoft's most favorable... it has be true, in holland least, that there were 2 versions, (later 3), An OEM (sticked to a single computer) licence, - witch was cheaper because it was non-transferable. A Retail version you could install on 1 single machine, and transfere it to a new machine (with no limits ever spoken of thus no limits). and later, (but less important to home users) a Corporate what MS is doing now is playing screwed up little games... in a radical example: they are murdering evvry 85-year-old grandfather because hardly any man gets that old anyways... so let MS now explain 'the exact diference between an OEM and a Retail version, because because those 10% retail buyers, are without any doubt people who are paying this extra money for a reason, so lets ask them what it is... because im darn sure its because they want to upgrade there machine's mor ofter... lets see. > in q2 of 2007 you buy a new pc with vista (retail) AMD Socket AM2 K8L > q1 or q2 of 2008 you will buy a new mother board because of the AM2+ 4x4 stratigy (thus replacen mobo and adding a 2nd cpu) > in the end of 2008 there will be AM3 plafrom (giving you DDR3 witch willl have signifficantly Less lantency and mutch heigher bus-speeds and Probebly PCI-E-v2 so in the next 3 to 4 years you will have 3 motherbords... and maybe even 4 or 5 before the version after vista arives. (so in worsed case instead of 140 euro you may want to pay 3x180 = 540 (that is 400euro's more than you would have payed for xp)

Oke i must say, vista had some good stuff, (like a new networking stack) and lots of other usefull features. and yes many features where scrapped, but it would have still been a great os, Rigt up untill i heard about the new licence... Are the completely out of there F*ckin minds as of now you are supposted to buy a new WAY to expensive licence for every other computer you by, for instance you just bought a nice AMD Athlon 64 or whatever, but with your old geforce 4 128 AGP card (hey why shouldn't you, it still worked right?) ow well the darn card fails you after a short while and you start thingking about some thing faster, a nice 7600GT PCI-E with DDR2 would be completely TO cool for - and look at that there is a nice motherboard on sale as well), And who cares about your windows licence right (your the clever guy you buy retail versions). NOT! you now have spoiled your "1-time only chance to upgrade your system", next time buy a new licence
-
its about as simple as it gets. (you just nead some tool to check witch 'registry entries are made (should be only 1 or 2), there is one for the IRC:// protocol and thats about the only thin you nead... for the rest you just make a sfx installer to for example extraxt al mirc stuf to. %programfiles%\mirc

Arrgh I cant install S-ATA drivers on my ASUS motherboard, help PLEASE
-I- replied to ryouga's topic in Windows XP
its realy not to hard... (just use bashrat the snake driverpacks, Download the base_install package, go to this page to know witch packs you need to download... http://www.driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/Dri...ack_Chipset.htm Download the driver pack you might want, or need... > extract the pack( s) you need (1 at time), > From inside the d folder - remove the folders from al manufacturers you dont have/need drivers from (to save space ) > after you scrunk down your d folder, make a new 7z (7zip.org) file from it with the exact same name as the original and a the end add "_mod" (without quotation) so you know it is your modified version... ! do this for al your downloaded packages 1 by 1 (you need at least mass storage) repeat the srinking for al your neaded pack (you atleast nead mass strograge). put your pack in the right folder and start the driverpacks program), be sure that you enable mass storrage driver in textsetup mode - or you cant instal your windows still, Last note you best chose the method 1 (unattend.sif method) as you dont have many drivers. -
probably a real bit late but, (pagefiles should be on your system partion??) NOT they shouldn't even be on your primairy harddrive for the exact reason you stated in your post... E: should be your seccond harddrive. any normal computer these days has but ata and S-ata conections, (from Athlon xp and P4 and up) whats so hard about putting your files on a seperate disk.. al systems i build at least are equiped with a small (20 ~ 40gb ata harddisk with windows installed on first partition and a backup (ghostfile) on the seccond. (sutch a disk cost about 30euro, - all files and userprofiles and (pagefiles) are stored on a mutch faster S-ATA disk that is also larger.
-
i wonder though why ever nLite should do this, (anyone that makes unattended disk can do that as simple as with a guirunonce cleanup.cmd file ... ??? right? /me things the who complained where just 1 bit TO lazy - me feal:$

there is even something cewler (found it at RyanVM's site in the Addon packages, - is a windows shell plugin that ads an extra tab in the settings menu on right-click of any mp3 wav (etc) file. to read and edit ID3-tags ... its called audioshell. (google for it).

1 easy option... is a commandlike option like... xpize /fix filename.dl

yeah tell me to i have a version of NT4.0 server layin around in the dust would love to use it as file/print/dns/AD server for my home network. -
-
if that doesn't do the trick - just downloade visual c express or any OSS compiler and mod the look'n'feel a bit and recompiles, MPC is opensource software. by the GPL

the more reason why this should be a post sp5 addon would be becasue SP5 is more complicated than any ordinairy project as it is, - it fixes quite some bugs in ways that have taken a lot of work from GurgleMeyer, its not only that things would confuse but also that contiuning on someone else's work is realy hard - because of 2 mind having 2 diferent kinds of logic... thats why i vote for a post sp5 roll-up package. - its just a new stand-alone installer, that people can use after a SP5 slipstream. and to be completely honnest, i dont even see the point in making it a Service pack - (way to complicated) so i say, make it a single cumulative hotfix.exe the MS. way or even the 7z utra compression way.... for those who'd want to *slipstream it, somthing as easy as RunonceEx to start it would be good enought. (no it wouldn't be lots slower, as long as its cumulative and based on as little install script as possible...) *** comulative in this means that it should not contain 2 versions of the same file, and not even 2 instances of the version...

in a way this feature could be fun to play with but there are some things to remember. ill try to explain. in a computer there is sucht a thing as a maxium partiotion count on a disk. in an ideal situation i could be somthing like. disk 1 - part 1 OS (windows) this is a partion that you preferably want clean, that means that you want as little change to it as you can. - the less you change it, the less you have to defrag it (a defragged SystemDrive will save you a great deel of startup times) to keep this as clean as possible - youd have to move any part that stores a lot of temp data, examples $Documents and settings$ $user tmp$ $downloaded program files$ and $temp internet files and coockies$ pagefile. and stuf like that... if you did all of this you'd have one %programfiles% and %windir% left on disk 1... and the big secret, i wont matter if this total size is 5gh or 50gb in speed it doesn't realy matter a lot. anymore. - on the 2nd disk (pref) or if you must - the 2nd partition, you want to store temp files ... like %temp% and pagefile... of the 3rd you'd want your data like %documents and settings% and and about any think that should get in the My Documents.... this 3 disk (parttion) settup is mutch used on big companies. and many say its realy affective for your performnce...

jou may want to explain * what the h*ll you are talkin about* if you'd look closely to nlite it can already remove most of windows' network tools, like the novel client, and the netbios support - if you remove al of that except for the TCPIP client you are about to the point i guess you want to be at... btw look closely at the decription of the components to determin what you want to remove. - some windows-Active directory support stuf wil also remove some local stuf ..
