Have you tried to delete these 2 registry keys: REGEDIT4 [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\control\SessionManager\CheckVerDLLs] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\control\SessionManager\WarnVerDLLs]Save as REG file and then run it. FYI: These are also deleted by 98SE2ME. HTH

You need to experiment installing 98SE2ME on your computer [at least option 8 which installs USB files], with your particular USB device(s) to see if it/they work(s) or not = trial and error game. Please note that Win98 SE + ME did not have full USB support way back in 1999 + 2000, respectively, when they were released. Only WinXP, 2003 + Vista have full native USB [including USB 2.0] support. 98SE2ME options 1, 2 + 8 only add WinME level of USB support, which is only a little better than 98SE's. For example, if you have a USB 2.0 device, you have to use manufacturer's dedicated drivers. The idea is that it all depends on what particular USB device(s) you have, and what kind of drivers they use [usually proprietary], made by respective manufacturer(s). Please post all/any 98SE2ME related issues in the 98SE2ME dedicated forum: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46349 Thanks.

98SE2ME = Killer Replacements: ME -> 98 SE
MDGx replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
I just spent a few long hours writing batch + inf files and testing. UPnP will have to be implemented at a later time. Future development of 98/SE/Me service packs
MDGx replied to Petr's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
I use: - iexpress.exe build 6.00.3790.1830 from Win2003 Server SP1: http://www.mdgx.com/ws3toy.htm#SP1 Newest I'm aware of, unless some1 has Vista beta. - wextract.exe build 6.00.3790.0 from Win2003 Server setup CD. Newest I'm aware of, unless some1 has Vista beta. - good idea to use older makecab.exe build 1.00.0601 from CAB SDK: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#INF That makecab.exe release is the only one I know of that doesn't change date/time stamps of created EXE packages. About best earliest version of advpack.dll: I use advpack.dll build 5.00.2013.1301 [suggested by erpdude8]. Works like a charm. Please note that all advanced package Iexpress installs also need these 2 files [there are only 2 builds, this one is the best]: W95INF16.DLL 4.71.704.0 W95INF32.DLL 4.71.0016.0 If any1 wants these files [zipped], please e-mail me [click the blue E-mail link]: http://www.mdgx.com/form.htm HTH _____________________________________________ FYI, especially useful for developers: I found msix [console command line tool], which extracts all files from an MSI [MS installer] package: http://blogs.msdn.com/heaths/archive/2006/04/07/571138.aspx D/l here [361 KB, free, English]: http://hstewart.members.winisp.net/downloads/msix.zip MSI must be installed, of course: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#MSI Works with all 9x + NTx OSes. URLMONFX only fixes the WU/WUC/OU web sites access bugs. To properly register a DLL or OCX into the registry, you must use %windir%\SYSTEM\REGSVR32.EXE [self-register server]. Example: %windir%\SYSTEM\REGSVR32.EXE %windir%\SYSTEM\URLMON.DLL from a batch file or from within an INF [example]: To do this from the Start -> Run... box, you must type the actual drive letters + directory names in the box.In 9x Oses the Run... box does not accept [to my knowledge] %windir% or similar environment variables. Regsvr32 command line switches: /S = quiet /I = regserver install /U = un-regserver [uninstall entries from registry] To view all regsvr32.exe switches, just run from a DOS box: %windir%\SYSTEM\REGSVR32.EXE HTH -

Q905495, IE905495, 2K905495 + Q911567 are unofficial [not by MS], but were created using Iexpress, which means they use same command line switches as MS-created [official] hotfixes: * Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2/6.0 SP1 for Windows 9x/NT4 SP6a/ME/2000 FTP Client MSIEFTP.DLL Security Vulnerability Fix (English): http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms05-044.mspx - Unofficial MS IE 5.5 SP2 Patch for Windows 2000 SP4 [190 KB]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/2K905495.EXE - Unofficial MS IE 5.5 SP2 + 6.0 SP1 Patch for Windows 98/NT4 SP6a/ME [215 KB]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/IE905495.EXE - Unofficial MS IE 5.5 SP2 Patch for Windows 95/OSR1/OSR2 [190 KB]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/Q905495.EXE * Microsoft Outlook Express (OE) 5.5 SP2/6.0/6.0 SP1 for Windows 9x/NT4 SP6a/2000/ME/XP/2003 Cumulative DIRECTDB.DLL, INETCOMM.DLL, INETRES.DLL, MSIDENT.DLL, MSOE.DLL, MSOEACCT.DLL, MSOERES.DLL, MSOERT2.DLL, OEIMPORT.DLL, OEMIGLIB.DLL, WAB32.DLL, WABFIND.DLL, WABIMP.DLL, MSIMN.EXE, OEMIG50.EXE, WAB.EXE + WABMIG.EXE Security Vulnerabilities Fix (English): http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...n/ms06-016.mspx - Unofficial MS OE 5.5 SP2 Patch for Windows 95/OSR1/OSR2/98/NT4 SP6a/ME [1.08 MB]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/Q911567.EXE HTH -

The location of hidclass.sys in C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\whatever... is only for AOL client installation backup purposes. The file must be located in %windir%\system32\drivers [where %windir% is usually C:\windows]. That is the only way Win98/ME OS will recognize and use hidclass.sys. To extract the file to proper location [example using D as CD/DVD drive = change if different on your computer] use a batch file like this: @ECHO OFF EXTRACT/Y D:\WIN98\BASE5.CAB /L %windir%\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS HIDCLASS.SYS EXIT The one from C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\whatever... can be safely deleted, will not affect the way the OS works. Most 9x hotfixes/patches/updates were created using iexpress tools [iEXPRESS.EXE, MAKECAB.EXE + WEXTRACT.EXE] package from MS. Therefore they all support command line switches, like [examples]: /Q = Quiet, no messages displayed /C = extracts all files to specified folder. Works only if associated with /T:X:\DIRNAME /T:X\DIRNAME = extracts all files to X:\DIRNAME . Works only if associated with /C /C:<cmd> = overrides default install command [usually an INF or EXE file] which was implemented into the iexpress package [sED configuration file] on this SED line: AppLaunched=WHATEVER.INF More info on iexpress hotfix switches: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=197147 More relevant links: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#DEV HTH

URLMONFX.EXE should install 100% on WinME OS because it does use "nircmd killprocess xxx" commands to shut down stmgr/statemgr/etc TSRs. Just open URLMONFX.EXE in PowerArchiver or WinZip [ http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#ZIP ] to see its contents [list of files] or run: URLMONFX /C /Q /T:C:\TEMP [where C:\TEMP is the target directory (example, you can change to any other valid directory)] to extract all its files. 98SE2ME = Killer Replacements: ME -> 98 SE
MDGx replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
-hmm, does sound pretty easy... tho it would probably lack your own creative flare, a signature of sorts, for your wonderful 98se2me project...(perhaps some entries, as usual, for ideas...) I like that...So let's see what you guys think of a custom 98SE2ME explorer banner. Specs: - BMP format, either RGB or RLE [compressed], doesn't matter. - 16 colors [4-bit]. I could probably "scrunch" a 256 colors [8-bit] BMP, but may or may not display properly [haven't tried anything else besides 16 colors]. - file size must be minimum 1500 bytes, max 8000 bytes [preferably ~ 3000 bytes]. - BMP width x height must be 21 x 233 pixels [original pic size]. Height can be more or less that, up to max 300 pixels. Width should be 21 pixels, but can go down to 18 or up to max 25. - writing has to vertical facing the left side of the screen. - single color background acceptable, but gradient of multiple colors better. Attached here: the original BMP banner from explorer.exe in Win98 SE, the 1 from Gape's SP2 and the 1 I'm using. All 3 are in GIF format. Download ZIP + then use an unZIPper to extract files: http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#ZIP BANNR157.ZIP Please show off your drawing talent, and post here your own creations. Thanks. -
Added URLMONFX.EXE Fix which installs OLDer URLMON.DLL 6.00.2800.1526 from MS05-054 [Q905915] only on Windows 98/98 SE/ME: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46581 Now you don't have to uninstall MS06-013 [Q912812] patch first. Just run URLMONFX.EXE. Windows 2000/XP users still have to uninstall MS06-013 patch first, as detailed in previous post [run %windir%\$NtUninstallKB912812$\spuninst\spuninst.exe], and look here for full details [scroll down to "BUGS:"]: http://www.mdgx.com/ietoy.htm#IEC HTH

I use PowerDVD 5 under Windows XP for SPD/IF compatibility [Dolby Digital (DD)/AC3 interface]. Unfortunately SB Audigy2 drivers [any edition] enable DD/AC3 [thru SPD/IF digital optical or normal digital interface] only under WinXP, not under 98SE/ME.

MDGx replied to Arrow's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
MPC is just a player, you need 3rd party codecs to use different media formats: MOV, MP4, OGG, DVD [VOB, DAT] etc.MPC picks up any codecs you may have installed, but you have to install some codecs for certain formats to work. Codecs list: http://www.mdgx.com/drv.htm#DRV HTH -
