both 98/xp have there strengths and weaknesses some ppl like 98,others like xp,i prefer both 98/xp 98 has the old interface,xp has new interface,a switch between them is good,also not many women are techies,it's mostly guys that do all the technical work and girls do dishes/etc...

or set it to 2.5 times your ram,yes also have a min and max for swap file to reduce fragmentation,for the memory it's gotta be the same type like you can't put sdram into a ddr board unless it can handle both types and put it in the right slot,also depending on how much win 98 uses memory set it to what will be enuf,if 98 uses 512 ram,set the vitual mem to say 1 gig to asure you got enuf virtual ram,also ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1 in system.ini will force windows to using the ram first then virtual ram once system ram gets depleted

he needs to do a search for that file to make sure it exists,he could extract it from the sp and place it where it needs to go

correct,i tried installing it on a new mobo n it gave errors when trying to start,plus 98micro gave problems so you don't need it,98chubby will do just fine,well me got 512 ram,will go to 1 gig soon,win98 will work with 1 gig

there is,i got an old laptop that works a bit better with the newest directx(9.0c) this is the order that you should 1. Internet Explorer 6 sp1 2. Install Newest Directx(9.0c) 3. Install Latest Drivers for sound,chipset,usb(if applicable)video card 4. Install 98lite(don't remove anything yet) 5. Install The Service Pack 1.6.2 6. Use 98lite and remove features then use chubby 7. office 97pro and any &All Programs it's better to have the newest system files before you install software to avoid problems,also by doing it that way all your system files are patched and updated and if you remove anything from windows setup it will reinstall with the newest files that are in the service pack if you choose to reinstall a particular windows component office 97 is really old,shouldn't you install office 2000 pro?office 97 and office 95 were meant for windows 95 mostly but will work on 98 fine

since gape includes ie 5.5 updates he should include ie 6 updates the sp would detect what ie you got and install the proper updates,hey updates are better than no updates

i did have me going good for awhile just afterawhile it slowed down n 98 se never did that,me is basicaly win 98 third edition with enhancements,if your good to me it will prolly be good to you

the 512 mb limitation doesen't affect me but i will be going past 512 soon,maybe to 1 gig,i hope i got it right,also your right,win 98 ain't dead,you can get win me stable but you gotta be careful how you do it and only remove some stuff,keep sfc and system restore intact for sure but disable it not remove it,i know this cuzz i did get win me stable,but then again i have fairly new hardware that win me liked,u give it crap stuff,it will crap back at you just as hard.

i would love to have ie included on my windows 98 se custom cd instead of having to dl it or install it from another source,same goes for dx i bet have to find out how it';s done but the ie i got is the full one is ie6+sp1 and i don't need to do those steps to dl it just the updates i don't got

no from what i know there will not be on for FE,it's too unstable if you wanna release them then by all means release them

group policy,win 9x has it u just need to install it,by default win98 doesen't install it like win 2000,xp,you will need your windows 98 se cd goto add&remove/system tools and see if is there,if not you need 98lite,check your pm for more details

or use norton disk doctor to fix the free space error even if your hardware doesen't support dx 9 it seems to make a difference even if you use the latest dx

there are apps that can allow windows 98 to see ntfs partitions also i disable wfp cuzz some of the apps i use bring warnings and there annoying,sides i watch what i install
