  1. I'll try to clarify. I tried these utilities with KernelEx installed. 'So are we to understand that you added this driver... "Ralink made a driver for it named rt28609x.sys." ...and that this provided the missing 9x.sys file for the CD-install to work under Win98/SE?' Correct, actually the utility was running in the background on the first install but I didn't realize it, the utility icon doesn't show up in taskbar until the card is inserted. KernelEx was at default setting. It also installs from cd with KernelEx disabled. The sitecome wl180-software.exe doesn't have the 9x driver(rt28609x.sys) but the utility can work by adding the mentioned stub. But it will only have WEP and not WPA/WPA2 because it has a separate driver for WPA which was not written for 9x in this package. It's the best utility I've seen so far-very informative, graphical. This utility can work with chipsets rt2500,rt61,rt73,rt2860,rt2870,rt2070,rt3070,rt2090,rt3090. I did not use MDgX updates, the link provided by jaclaz indicated microsoft had made an updated driver for TI cardbus. I don't have a link saved for microsoftTI.inf. @jaclaz I'm now able to remove and install cardbus adapter without system hang, BSOD, or delayed startup. Thank you "...screen slowly fades to all white..." --probable because graphics card is sharing interrupt 11 with too many devices. Interrupts 3-7,9,10 are free!? I need help with this one. My temporary solution was to insert cardbus adapter only after windows loads. sorry for the off topic
  2. I had access to this recent purchase so I decided why not try it on Win98se. I was able to view live feed using Firefox 3.6 and Opera 12 via the ethernet connection. Camera settings are accessible using browser. The video is set to highest 1280x800 and 30fps but runs choppy in browser. It says requirements are IE 7, firefox 3.5 or higher ect. So I tried on IE6-was asked to install d-link codec-after allowing it, the video ran smooth at HD setting- much to my surprise. The codec is about 6mb- I don't have the specifics right now. I suppose Firefox and Opera would need a plugin or codec to run smoothly. I was using 2.0ghz Pentium M laptop with wireless N adapter. However, I ran on a RJ45 connected computer and IE6 crashed before displaying video feed. Camera firmware date is 2007
  3. I had a little trouble installing the above links utility for ClientMgr3. I thought maybe the latest utility would include wpa. I found Buffalo's version of the driver (they renamed the sys file to CBG54.sys with references to it in the inf.) https://web.archive.org/web/20071009180904/http://www.buffalotech.com/support/downloads/wireless-g-125-high-speed-notebook-adapter/ I used KernelEx to install in WinME mode.
  4. I'm getting that audio device problem too...using laptop Sigmatel driver...also when prompted I allowed my bluetooth plugin (widcomm 5.1) but that didn't work either.
  5. I'm stuck at fp ver 14 and must have missed something. The last change I made to kstubs was to get from ver 11.6 to 11.7 by adding gdialphablend= to [gdi32.dll] of k452stub. This works up to ver 14.
  6. I went back to trying the utility that's on the AWLC6080 cd and it worked on second install . The cd has a win98 inf. but not the 9x sys file. It's connected at 130Mbps and WPA and WPA2 seem to be functional-I haven't tested it.
  7. I found that Sitecom wl-180-software.exe has a utility that will install and run in w2k mode if a missing stub is added to Kstub822 netapi32.dll section. ie DsGetDcNameA= Works fine execept in utility WPA and WPA2 boxes are shaded out for some reason. Maybe this goes beyond being win9x compatible.
  8. I had hopes that the Airlink AWLC6080 300N (draft n) card and others like it would work but it seems there's no working utility. Ralink made a driver for it named rt28609x.sys I found it searching for AzureWave AW-NE766 Wireless LAN Driver V1.1.0.0 for Windows XP http://www.asus.com/support/Download/14/8/0/40/17/ Has anyone been down this road already?
  9. The Airlink awlc5025 works too if you update the driver rt619x.sys ver 1.00 to 1.02.06.0000. It uses Ralink driver, has MIMO, suppose to support WPA2. The driver on cd doesn't work, causes BSOD with a vxd error.
  10. Yes, that was a helpful read jaclaz, I was able to find microsoftTI.inf from 9/02/2002 which is an updated driver for up to TI pci-4550 among others. I'm having an issue with ATI graphics when starting - screen slowly fades to all white...so I'm not able to see if it helps....but I'm hoping I can work around this without doing a total reinstall.
  11. Although my AWLC3028 works, it takes about 5 min. to start win98se when card is inserted--about 2.5 min to hear the beep from cardbus and another 2.5 to finish. I was wondering if it's because of the cardbus controller. I'm using the generic driver that's off the win98se cd. It's a dell inspiron 8600 that has a TI PCMCIA 4510 controller according to winXP. The only drivers I've found are for 2k or xp and ask where the pcmcia.sys file is on the win98se cd. Does win98se use pcmcia.sys? It doesn't appear to be on the cd.
  12. I use window's hyperterminal to capture data via rs232 using com ports. Most are analytical instruments from 80's and 90's. Every one of them needs a null modem adapter somewhere in the cable. I had to keep trying different baud rates (in hyperterminal) till I got the right one.
  13. I think ccleaner v 2.36.1233 is the last with windows 9x support
  14. I've had a MB not work right when the 3.3v was around 3.16 or lower. The PC I'm using right now has a capacitor problem. With a capacitor problem it's usually temperature related. It either works when it's cold or warm-only after letting it idle for about 3 min. before booting. Either case it will usually lock up in DOS at some point.
  15. With Hunting Unlimited, I've found a d3dx9_42.dll file in the game's folder and renamed it to 43. Worked fine after that change.
  16. I came across TomTom Home the other day that requires Me,NT 3.x, NT4, 2000 or XP.
  17. I've had the Radio Shack CueCat sitting around for years, they gave it away like candy-never thought I could use it as is. Then just for fun I searched the net and came across a reference for CatNip v1.4b © 2000 Rich Goldstein -a nice little app that decodes the barcodes on the fly-no hardware mods needed. I found it in the Wayback machine.
  18. for what it's worth there's e1000nt5.sys from 6/22/2004 ver. 8.0.57 that according to wdmcheck has one missing function. If I remember correctly it was for a dual port but with an earlier chip.
  19. what's the name and ver. of the sys file it's trying to load?
  20. I just got a Kyocera Ecosys P2135 network printer working after downloading hpspm98.exe version 2.10.00.03. I used Kyocera FS-3700 driver. I was elated to see the Windows 98 test page come out. .
  21. Are you able to use the memory card reader in 98SE?
  22. Got everything working including bluetooth (dell bluetooth 350 module). I had the most trouble with Intel's IDE controller- trick was to set to primary only then run 'add new hardware' non plug and play wizard to install ide for cd drive. The same goes with Dell Inspiron 9200, which is a nicer computer( wide screen, 4 usb, subwoofer). There's a specific install order for the 9200-install bluetooth hardware/software last after all updates.
  23. In my Dell laptops, I only had success with ATI Radeon mobility 7500 after installing Rloew's memory patch with the move (\M) option
  24. I found the AWLC3028 on ebay and gave it a try on my 2004 era Dell laptop's cardbus. All have same problem- "server not found" even after disabling security. Utility works fine, driver loads fine. Browsers don't want to connect. I wasn't too surprised; I expect this kind of thing anymore. Maybe it's a case of 'install drivers before updates'. Firewall wasn't notifying me, removed firewall, have to wait a couple minutes for connection otherwise works great, nice utility. Driver is RTL8185.sys ver 5.1x 6/14/2007
