  1. I have several Linksys WUSB54G lying around- I got away from them when I saw how much % cpu the Linksys utility uses- was about 50% every other second. Of course, there may be another cpu friendly utility that would work with the device.
  2. Sounds like your sata drive is slowing it down, The partition size may be too big.
  3. In case nobody else has a link to a newer version of MicrosoftTI.inf for cardbus controller. It's the only link I could find, download the exe package at bottom of page http://search.casnavi.nec.co.jp/download/pc/module/sabun/200110/mate/webupme.htm
  4. Apparently rt28609x.sys works strictly with rt2860 chipset. Even in WinXP, the early (2007) nt5 driver rt2860.sys doesn't work with some of the later devices in the link above. Some of the devices listed in the newer (2008 & up) rt2860.inf files have a different chipset like rt2700, rt3xxx which only work with the newer nt5 driver (rt2860.sys) So the above GN-WS32L-RH didn't work-it was rt3xxx chipset and I tried this http://www.ebay.com/itm/191721931888which is AzureWave AW-766; didn't work-it was rt2700E chipset.
  5. I just got a x1300 for laptop. Adding device id to ati 6.2 inf creates a flagged driver in device manager. System information-components-display shows "driver not installed" for ti2drag.drv which doesn't exist. Ati2drag.drv is also in the list and is not flagged. What would knock the "a" off of the driver name? I copied and renamed Ati2drag.drv to ti2drag.drv and it gets listed without flag but still has yellow flag in device manager.
  6. Here's a link to the latest rt2860.inf I could find- I wonder how many of the listed devices will work with the 9x driver version. I'm planning on testing gigabyte mini pci-e version GN-WS32L-RH for laptop soon (provided I can get past the sata drive hurdle). http://jbmondoloni.free.fr/Hardware/carte%20PCMCIA%20Belkin%20WIFI%20n%20FD8013/RT2860%203.02.12/rt2860.inf
  7. Here's the Gigabyte link for rt28609x.sys. http://www.gigabyte.eu/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2686#dl Link works in Firefox 3.6. It's for GN-WS30N-RH ver 1.0 (the last one on the list of "show me all") 11.8MB
  8. http://www.asus.com/support/Download/14/8/0/40/17/ Direct linking won't work; just knock off the last two digits(17) in link, choose winxp os then download ver 1.1.0.0. There's a 9x folder with rt28609x.sys driver in it. The only other place I've seen it is in a Gibabyte draft N pci package. I've searched all manufacturers listed in rt28709x.inf but didn't find any sys file as I mentioned in previous post.
  9. I looked a little closer, dll notice is related to the installer/uninstaller used Glb1a2b.exe in temp folder. I set it to KernelEx nt 4.0 mode and didn't get notice.
  10. tried reinstalling download from post #1 got a ctl3d32.dll version notice. not sure if it has anything to do with sound not working.
  11. I agree. One gigabyte usb wireless N software package I found had a 9x folder, but it was empty. At least there's rt28609x.sys. I use it with a gigabyte mini pci card ( WI30N) but on my machine it takes Rloew's memory patch /m option so there's not a VFAT error at startup.
  12. "So i looked for a workaround, as there does not seem to be a thing as an "N" wireless Dongle or stick with w98SE support." I suppose the driver in this inf may be out there somewhere on a draft N cd http://ftp.dlink.ru/pub/Wireless/DWA-160/Drivers/REV_B/Rev.B-v2.00/DWA-160_v2.00/Drivers/DriverXP_2K/rt2870.inf
  13. Try the Anycom drivers which are newer. Also, when installers don't work (for whatever reason), it is sometimes possible to extract and transplant individual files. You probably want to avoid Device Firmaware Upgrades (dfu files) from other manufacturers, however. Another great discussion to read: How to Install Widcomm Drivers No, I meant 5.1.0.2800. Gateway version is a typo, when installing it says 5.1.0.2800 I couldn't find a download anywhere with the above link for anycom. 'How to install widcomm drivers' - That's an interesting approach-I hadn't seen that before, I might try some of the tips. to bad the links are dead. Most of my dongles are internal Dell 350's. I'm begining to wonder if they are capable of stereo.
  14. The above mentioned dell 355 software didn't work with my IOGEAR adapter-I got the 'device not found' . The license and/or software is probably just for the dell 355 device id since they included a dfu file update. I did find D00748-001-002.exe which is Widcomm 5.1.0.2800 and that is working better with my adapter. I say better because it can connect 'hands free' and 'stereo' at the same time-and Windows volume contol works. It's been my experience that only licensed versions of Widcomm have 'stereo' or 'high quality audio' usable so the "fun" is figuring out which device id's are considered licensed by the software. Here's a link since there's seems to be some conflicting ver #s even in this package from Gateway http://panam.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?id=21382&dscr=Gateway%20WidComm%20Bluetooth%20Drivers%20Version:%205.0.1.2800&uid=463554411
  15. I finally found a bluetooth stack with working "high quality audio" and possibly stereo(I don't have stereo speakers to test ). Using Widcomm 5.0.1.2800 from here http://download.cnet.com/Copy-28-of-BTW-5-0-1-2800-Compal-zip/3000-2110_4-143931.html The fIle btaudio.inf was written specifically for Win98/ME. Maybe this inf can be a model for other stacks to have working high quality audio like the 5.1 versions. I'm using IOGEAR USB bluetooth model GBU221, Class 2 Device ID VID_0a5c&PID_2101 which is licensed with this stack. Shows as Broadcom 2405 in device manager. The cd that came with IOGEAR had stack 5.1.0.3300 which I couldn't get around the "device not found" error after installing. One thing is Windows volume control has no effect on volume level at high quality-only windows media player can change volume level. And this zip file didn't extract all the way which makes me a little suspicious, but it still worked.
  16. 'Not having access to the internal IDE-DVD is what i need help for: Disabling the Second IDE-Channel (on which the IDE-DVD hangs) removes the problem/yellow icon on the ATA Controller, you can then see the HDD. So it's the IDE-DVD itself, a MATs***A (<-- ) UJDA750 ("Support" by Sony), that blocks the driver (aka the Real Mode). Does anybody have an idea how to fix that? (ATM, i can use an USB-DVD only, which rather spoils the fun) Cheers, Ragnar G.D.' If you have your IDE controller set to primary only, you could try running 'add new hardware' and then 'non plug and play'. It might pick up your secondary IDE and be functional to some degree.
  17. I've had the same problem with every office xp installation--outlook crashes while "configuring outlook creating outlook accounts creating welcome message" I don't use outlook so I have never bothered to investigate but it does happen after updating.
  18. Adding your device id to the stac97.inf in the wdm folder from Dell's R90698.exe package might work for you. Works for computers with Sigmatel 9750 with extra speakers like subwoofer ect).
  19. thats' what I do too...can watch a dvd....except DMA isn't enabled so burning a cd has to be done at 8x speed or less x600 should be in C5_30314.inf from ati catalyst 6.2 (6-2_wme_dd_cp_30314.exe)
  20. I have an Inspiron 9300 arriving in a few days, a close relative to the D810, which I'll attempt installing 98SE. It has the x300 ATI-which is pci express just like the x600.
  21. Yep http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/162360-windows-98-on-a-2006-laptop/
  22. Here's a link for the Airlink101 300N utility. It installs with KernelEx disabled so I'm assuming it's the same as the cd and WPA/WPA2 will work. It looks like it will work for the pci/mini pci version rt28609x.sys and usb rt28709x.sys. https://web.archive.org/web/20071110223821/http://www.airlink101.com/support/index.php?cmd=files&id=103
  23. I've looked around for rt28709x.sys can't find it anywhere. Has anyone seen this driver? It would enable usb wireless N for 9x(provided there's a working utility and the usb devices are still around). http://ftp.dlink.ru/pub/Wireless/DWA-160/Drivers/REV_B/Rev.B-v2.00/DWA-160_v2.00/Drivers/DriverXP_2K/rt2870.inf
  24. Before I gave up, I found w22n50.sys 1/14/2004 1608kb missing only ndisintializestring. It was from dell's legacy driver page. The first 2k driver A00 for an inspiron 8600. I'm not sure if that legacy driver page is still available. My machine with windows driver development software is down so I can't really experiment with it.
  25. I didn't think I'd see the day but there's Gigabyte GN WI30N wireless n mini pci on Ebay now ($5.49). It was only available to system integrators. It has the rt2860 chipset and the 9x driver is on the cd. However the utility only installs in KernelEx w2k mode with only WEP available-and only seems to be in wireless g mode. But if you happen to get the Airlink AWLC6080 cd , that utility will work with this card by simply adding the device id to the Airlink pci section of the inf file. The fastest connection seems be 130Mbps. I have tested with WPA2 connection-works fine. Connects to internet immediately -no waiting. There's 3 antennae connections on the card so MIMO is an extra benefit.
